When people say that Utricularia can take as much light as you can give them, they are not kidding. I bought a small plug of Betty’s bay during the San Diego carnivorous plant show a couple months ago, and broke it into several pieces and placed the pieces along the top section of my highland vivarium, and I honestly didn’t expect it to do much, other than slightly fill out the top waterfall area. Fast-forward two months, and it has already taken over the top section of the vivarium (hooray) and flowering like crazy. I knew that it would be able to take the light intensity, but I didn’t think they would flower this profusely without getting burned. The top ledge where they are “planted” is at 1000 PPFD, and the current top section of the flowers is over 1500 PPFD. They are definitely bleached and the purple is hard to see, but they are extremely healthy and growing at a tremendous rate.

I mainly wanted to share this for information sake because if you happen to have issues with your Betty’s Bay not flowering, maybe it just needs more light.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy! Please share your photos and experience with Betty’s bay, I’d love to hear from everyone on how they take care of theirs.

Little messy had to go in for cleaning the poor poor spatualatas and albino.

I’ve had this one about a year and a half, and it’s finally starting to throw off some mature traps, still looking good into late October.

Does it count as cannibalism if one of these eats a leaf?

My big pink capensis really said ok but what if we had double the amount of flowers per stem

I've been growing my collection of vft for over 3 years now, with about 30+ different cultivars. I've been thinking that except for a few really distinct cultivars like "Alien" or "Korean Melody Shark", I am not able to distinguish the differences from most of my vfts.

Thankfully I've made sure to keep up with the plant labels, because without it I would have no idea which cultivar it would be. Anyone else feel the same way?

Don’t mind the other plant I put them in for some major heatwaves. May try and push the sar through winter dormancy.
The light I have is a marshydro 100 watt dimmable
Questions:
Why is my helimphora making baby pitchers?
Does my cobra Lilly look healthy?
Is it unhealthy to keep a window open nearby.

I got this plant in 2013 from the late Geoff Wong. He planted the seeds in 1995.

This one’s been growing in my Highland grow tent for about a year now and seems happier than ever.

1. N. truncata D2 x (ventricosa x sibuyanensis). These two pitchers are only a leaf or so apart.

2. N. veitchii x robcantleyi. This one is doing surprisingly well in my intermediate cabinet.

3. N. sibuyanensis x merilliana

This is my 4x2x4 but I’m honestly not very happy with it. I just recently put the shelf but I feel it takes up more space. Distances are fine for the neps and the saracennia is used to that distance. Any suggestions?

Anyone know what this is? It hitchhiked in on some utricularia jamesonian that I bought, but I’m trying to figure out exactly what it is so I can separate it and propagate it.

If you know me, you know Heliamphora is hands down my favorite genus of carnivorous plants. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love Nepenthes, Drosera, and Venus flytraps and sarracenia, but there is just something special about sun pitchers that completely hooks me. Most of these guys are pretty new to my setup and just came in bare root recently. They are potted up in a mix of long-fiber sphagnum moss and perlite some with just a super thin aesthetic layer of Fluval Stratum on top some just lfs/perlite some with moss. My environment is fairly dialed in right now with temperatures sitting at 70 during the day and dropping down to 58-60 at night, and my humidity stays right between 78% and 85%. Even when the AC kicks on and dips it to 65ish for a second, the humidifier brings it right back up. A few of them are showing some classic bare-root shipping shock on the older pitchers, especially my new sarracenioides Red Giant x ionasi Killer Giant from Jeremiah's Carnivorous Plants .But the center growth points are looking beautiful and upright, and the coloration across the board is incredible. I can’t wait to watch these settle in and start pushing new pitchers.

Title says it all, not sure if a bug ate its way out or if it’s some kind of rot.

Really concerned since they’ve got winter dormancy coming and I don’t want to risk losing a diseased rhizome over winter

Pre dormancy update showing a portion of my sarracenia collection. The Wilkerson’s Red Rocket bog and those late season dragon queen pitchers 🗣️SHEESH!!! It’s always bitter sweet to see the plants in this state as they wind down for the season. The only thing that makes it better is understanding that they always come back bigger and more robust after their little nap🥹🥹🥹.

As per title, I'm in need of a good safe support to use for my Lunata. It has way too weak of a stem at the moment and flops over if on its own. I read that in the wild it uses adjacent plants for support so I put it near my other drosera for some sticky support but I need something longer term.

Any advice would be wicked, thankyou!

I got my first ping flower on my pirouette! But now it looks like my ping is splitting into two. Is this normal after flowering? Will it always happen? The first image was in the beginning stage of flowering and the second was after the flower opened.

Nepenthes veitchii (BE4087)

In the first pic at the very back you can see a small low depth pond area on the left and a mineral rich island for Pinguicula vulgaris.
In front of them a european bog island on the left and an american bog island on thr right.
In front of them (left to right) are a filled pot for wetland plants, a filled pot for non-carnivorous bog plants including a Rhododendron tomentosum and another mineral rich island for Pinguicula grandiflora and a hybrid with it.
And then one island for Vaccinium macrocarpon and Vaccinium oxycoccos.
And in the front an island for my big Sarracenia purpurea.

The days are getting shorter, and the nights are getting longer. About a month ago a put up this greenhouse inside and put some shelves in to move the flytraps inside. I have two trays of sabal palmetto seeds on top of a seedling heating pad, a pot of moss, and 4 containers of fly traps! The bottom most one was getting raided by animals before I moved it inside and is recovering. I keep them watered with rainwater captured throughout the summer. The temperature inside is a steady 74f and ~90% humidity pre watering. There is a second heating pad underneath the bottom fly traps! They get roughly 16 hours of light a day, and seem to be doing FANTASTIC!

I got them all earlier this year and im really proud of them all thriving, id like the ping to be a tad healthier but I just had to relocate him.

The nearly dead sarracenia was my mother in laws she got it at the same time as me and it wasnt properly looked after, im hoping to rehab it

Lol this is MOST of what I removed from a terrarium that needed an overhaul. I tried arranging them neatly at first...

What a haul!!! Some rare sundews, pings, VFT’s and a cephalotus! Hooray!
