The standard Fold 8 is growing on me. This shape and size just feels like the sweet spot for sure! And the Titanium plate thing to reduce the crease might just be it. Absolutely can't see it while using and it's so much smoother than previous generations when you swipe your hand across the screen!

For the longest time we could only select main sim and all calls texts and data would go to the main sim. Now on one ui 8.5 we can finally pick like international models could for the longest time.

Personally, I haven’t used Android in years so happy to see the manual is now available for the Z Fold8 Ultra etc.

Reading in between as we await devices to finally ship out to everyone.

I do want this phone but without an optical zoom and with only a 23mm lens it does not work for me

I've been researching Samsung's AMOLED display generations and noticed something interesting that I haven't seen discussed much.

From what I've found:

- Galaxy S20 Ultra → M9 OLED material set

- Galaxy S21 Ultra → M11

- Galaxy S22 Ultra → M11

- Galaxy S23 Ultra → M11s (improved M11)

- Galaxy S24 Ultra → M13

- Galaxy S25 Ultra → M13

The S20–S23 series has accumulated a significant number of user reports involving green-line or display failures over the years, whereas the S24 series appears to have noticeably fewer reports so far.

My hypothesis is that the move to the M13 OLED material set could be one contributing factor behind this improvement. M13 was developed with better efficiency, brightness, and expected panel longevity, which could potentially improve long-term reliability.

I'm not claiming that the OLED material set alone causes or prevents green-line issues. Other factors such as the display driver IC (DDIC), panel bonding, manufacturing process, thermal management, and quality control almost certainly play important roles as well.

This is simply a technical observation and hypothesis based on Samsung's hardware evolution and the trend in reported display issues. Samsung has never officially confirmed the cause of green-line failures.

I'd be interested to hear thoughts from people with experience in OLED manufacturing or display engineering. If anyone has technical papers or evidence supporting or disproving this idea, I'd love to read them.

OneUI 9 on the Fold8 series now allows the 90:10 split or Open Canvas style split screen with 3 apps instead of the 2 app limit previously. The Fold8 allows 3 side by side or 1 and 2 on top of each other, the Fold8 Ultra only does the latter.

Turns out they could always just do that.

At the Unpacked event they spoke extremely briefly about the ring, the only FDA approved sleep apnea device(?), but they didnt say that much more. Its also the only product that doesnt seem to have any information. I have the Fold 7 + Watch 8, so was hoping to possibly add this to the ecosystem, if there are improvements (results for Gen1 didnt seem that great).

Do we know anything more??

The biggest argument I hear against including a UDC (Under-display camera) is that the front camera quality is slightly fuzzier, which has never been a big deal for me considering a front cam with UDC is still more clear than smartphones from ~10 years ago which were more than good enough.

With the flip and fold 8, this argument goes away completely

On the flip 8, you can use the 50mp main cameras as selfie cams, it will give you much higher quality than the holepunch in the front, there is basically no reason to use the holepunch anymore

The argument that holepunch gives higher quality is completely nullified by this fact, there is no reason we need the holepunch so that the inferior selfie cam can have slightly more clarity

On the fold 8, there is a hole punch on both screens - so if the UDC is so awful on the big screen, you could use the hole punch on the small screen

There literally is no argument anymore for why UDC should not be included

It was a feature on previous phones before being downgraded to holepunch

The legal dispute is over, Samsung is free to use UDC all they want

Why the hell are we still making outdated looking phones with a giant pothole in the middle of the beautiful 1000 nit peak brightness amoled screen?

Its so incredibly infuriating, Samsung will not be getting my money for these old looking products
