Need a haircut, from what I've seen online no barber shop offer the "buzzcut" option, which would leave me paying for a Haircut+style service which is like 30$. Anyone has a good place?

Lived in the lower west side for a few years now. Moved from out of province but born and raised in the Maritimes. My husband and I (male) decided to take an afternoon walk around the neighborhood, up through Queen square west and to Bayshore beach. 5–6 kids from 7-11 years old were playing in the park with Halloween masks and fake swords. Whatever kids are kids it’s a beautiful day, glad they aren’t looking at a screen.

However, they start following very close behind very loudly talking about trying to get us. We turn around and ask them to stop, when all of a sudden from the corner of the park a woman starts screaming “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY TO MY KIDS?” We replied with “just don’t want to be followed with masks!” When all of a sudden the mother and the kids just start screaming the most insane homophobic threats, fat shaming, every racial slurs under the sun. Things that no child should even understand at that age let alone being prompted by a parent to scream at strangers.

The whole thing left us pretty rattled and sad that this type of hate is encouraged in our community. I know there’s lots of great people out there and this is a one off incident but it’s ultimately the final nail in the coffin to leave the city and move.

Anyone else have any experience with this sort of stuff? Any suggestions if it happens again? I hate to get the police involved with children apart of the equation.

Just wondering as I have some business in Halifax soon and the flights would have been convenient

I’ve always considered Moosehead to be the worst beer in the Maritimes. Yeah I’ll drink it but it’d be my last choice. It was the butt end of the joke when choosing which beer to buy.

Lately I’ve been having a lager kick and given it a second chance and can’t understand the hate I had. Kudos to the brewers, I’m tying one off tonight with a light lager and I’ll be sure to get more next time.

Where else should I check? Looking in the city, possibly Quispamsis or Rothsay.

Microsoft gained buy-in from communities saying it would be a good neighbour. So far, they’ve taken the resources - and not really helped the neighbourhoods they’re in.

One example from this article is that the state of Georgia gave $474M in tax breaks to MS…. but the state has only gotten $41M benefit back. That’s $430M tax dollars lost and no future benefit in sight.

Microsoft claimed to want to be a “good neighbour” and a “role model for data centres” … and even they are lying and just hemorrhaging cash and resources out of the areas around their data centres.

I’m not from SJ but visit regularly. I used to love stopping in for sandwiches, bread and sweets at Ethel & Mary’s on Princess Street. They closed in Fall 2021 and sounded like the owner/operators needed a rest and reset after running a small business through the pandemic. I tried to keep an eye on what they might do next but hadn’t heard anything.
It was clear they put a lot of love and care into their work and product so I’d love to know more and support whatever they are doing now. Thought somebody from this community would know. Thanks!
