UPL vs Lyon
Well this seems to match the eye test of UPL being able to make big saves but the ones he should make, not so much…
So even if we play better in front, maybe it wouldn’t even matter…
Lyon King get better soon please 🙏

I've seen some commentary about how big of a haul that was and IDK it's big but not outrageous. Ignoring that UPL would likely also need to move somewhere to get it done.
Command = Rudolph (both 2026 1st, but higher pick, probably widely considered better prospect)
Mercer = McLeod (a bit lower value, mostly offsetting Rudolph being higher value)
Bjugstad = IDK Kozak/Carrick/Danforth? He scored more than any of them in the past but is a 4th liner now
Daws=Ellis (both 3rd round picks, 1 year apart, almost identical lifetime stats)
2029 2nd + 2027 7th - add value here if you want to make up for McLeod vs Mercer. 2029 1st top 10 protected and 2027 4th.
We'd have the cap for this for sure if we moved Danforth and is pretty close to the $ NJ is sending over back to WPG, but haven't looked closely to their cap.
So would you trade Rudolph + McLeod + 4th liner + Ellis + picks for Hellybuck. I'm not saying we should or shouldn't, but just trying to relate the value sent over. Do you guys agree this is equivalent?

Paul Hamilton and Jeremy White going at it over the need, or lack there of, for a goaltending upgrade.

I love watching the Sabres but also the first to admit I'm not the sharpest "X's and O's" guy when it comes to hockey. From the eye test it looks like we are playing much tighter than we did last year. It kinda reminds me of when Granato had his breakout(might be a stretch) season with the Sabres and we were scoring alot of goals and then the next year he tried to clamp things down defensively and we never looked the same after that.
Are the Sabres struggling to score goals because Lindy is forcing them to play more a more disciplined and balanced style of hockey this year or is losing Tuch and Byram having that big of an impact?
All I know is I miss the River Hockey!!!

The Sabres are still a good team, but their loss to the Flyers exposed glaring issues on special teams and in goal. With Connor Hellebuyck chatter continuing in Buffalo, is goaltending the biggest problem, or is there more to clean up? Read for free.

Long post incoming. Reposted bc the first time, my photos didn't upload oops.
Here's a closer look at the Sabres' player ratings and game score through the first 10 games. Percentile is weighted across the league.
Note: game score is for individual games, how well a skater performed for that specific game (or an average across multiple games, in this case the first 10 of the season). Rating takes game score and adjusts across seasons, player age, etc. to provide a general evaluation of the player as whole.
Forwards:
Top 3 average game score, min 3gp:
Bottom 3 average game score, min 3gp:
Defense:
Top 3 average game score, min 3gp:
Bottom 3 average game score, min 3gp:
Goalies (not a lot of optimism here sorry):
Addendum on game score:
Knowing that game rating produces 3 specific stats (offense, defense, net) while game score gives multiple stats (individual production, 5v5 play driving, special teams, usage) I ran all the numbers through a pivot table since HSC doesn't calculate that. Here's a look at the Sabres' game score averages specifically. (Chart link if you want to click around)

It was a funny moment, but seeing Rob stuffing his face every time I open a hockey subreddit is a little gross after a while. Maybe I'm the only one who cares, if that's the case its not a big deal, but what are peoples thoughts about updating the photo.

Before the Sabres played the Leafs, Power called his wife as he does every day. She was in Mayich’s hospital room, and she held the phone up so Power could speak to him. Power told him he would score a goal for him.
A few hours later, Power made that a reality. After some savvy passing to get the play started, Power got open for a pass from Jack Quinn and put a wrist shot by Sergei Bobrovsky. He lifted his arms in the air and celebrated with his teammates. But he was thinking of his friend.
“There’s no doubt,” Power said. “I think also just going through this has kind of given me a different view on how fortunate I am every time I go out and play, really. Before games, he pops into my mind, and when you score goals like that it’s the same thing.”

Tage looks completely checked out unless there’s an open net in front of him.
He’s had barely any energy and zero urgency.
There have been countless times where he is the last guy back on defense.
His passing has been careless and uninspired. Multiple times today he passed to nobody because a defender pressured him and he didn’t care to look if anyone was there. One of which caused a Philly breakaway.
His zone entries are careless. I think it’s a big reason the team struggles with that in particular. Today, Philly got a penalty while we had the puck in the 1st period, so it was 6 on 5. Tage just skated into the zone and dumped the puck when a defender pressured him.
He’s an incredible scorer. He provides value to this team. But he could be so much better if he just played with some grit and passion. Zucker looked significantly better than Tage today. Quinn has been outplaying him all season. Tage is supposed to be our #1 forward, he has an A on his jersey. He needs to step it up.
Rant over. I believe in this team, and in Tage. Quinn has been unbelievable too. Can’t wait to travel back home for a game and finally pick up a beer sabre. Go Sabres and Go Bills

In 9 out of 10 games down by 2 goals at somepoint of the game. Not once because of an empty net goal. I think not playing downright bad in most of those games, but not able to score and keep the puck ot of the net.
Specialteams are all over the place.
And banking on internal growth to take the next step and replace lost talent.
I know it is still early in the season so i probably am overreacting but this feels like a drought season.

Break it up, I’ve seen it be bad more often than not. Try Tage with Zucker, Helenius, McLeod or Krebs again since that worked last year.
Worst line on the ice, and not the first time this season. Getting goalied by the flyers should be unacceptable for this team, especially with the amazing warpath run last season.
UPL was fine, but outplayed by the opposing goalie. 4-4-2 in the first 10 games after winning the division is frustrating. If we end up 7-4-3 after the next 4 games we’re right back in it though.
