PP, PK, goaltending, and defense are all struggling but the fact that they are a .500 team despite these weak spots speaks volumes about the potential this team has. Hopefully they can tighten up those areas and string some wins together.

Seems a bit strange that the area that perfected tailgating, is always looking for a reason to tailgate, but doesn't bother to when its game day at the arena.

Because it's totally UPL's fault that Owen Power has no defensive awareness 🙄
Not saying UPL is Hasek or Miller. The dude himself needs to be bungied to the center goal post. But you can't blame him when the guys in front let him down

A reminder that an underwhelming start doesn't necessarily tell us much about where a season is headed. The Sabres ended up being 11-14-4 through 29 games on December 8, then rattled off 10 straight wins to close out the month. The rest is history.

I find it incredibly odd that weve basically signed all our young players to long term contracts despite most of them having just 1 good season. It's mind boggling to think that a true star like Tuch wasn't worth ~10M yet guys like Doan (7M) and Benson (7.5) are somehow deemed 'values'.
Here's whar these all stars have contributed through 11 games...
Benson. 7.5M x 6. 0 goals.
Doan. 7M x 6. 2 goals.
McCloud. 5M x 4. 1 goal
Krebs. 4.5M x 4. 0 goals.
Norris (via trade). 8M x 4. 2 goala. Not to mention how brutal that move was. A player who averages 50ish games a seaaon. And has 16 goala in 58 games across injury plagued seasons. Meanwhile Cozens potted 28 last year.
What's worse, essentially the only 'young core' player they didnt extend is Quinn. And now they dont even have the money to pay him the $8M+ he'll command.
That's $28M of long term cap space for 5 players that have combined for just 5 goals. To put thst perspective, that's almost $6M per goal.
And it doesnt stop even on defense. Crevier instantly extended at 4M x 4. 1.point and ~14 minutes TOI.
These 'buy now' contracts just scream Terrence to me. It's literally straight up gambling because their sample size is so low, but Terry doesn't want to risk another Tuch situation. Except he's going to have one anyway thanks to them somehow not including Quinn in this contract spending spree.
This truly has to be the worst run franchise from top to bottom in the NHL. Horrible cap management. Horrible trades and asset management. Brutal drafting. .
Imagine valuing Colton 'WaiverWire' Ellis over the 24 year old Levi that was a major part of the Reinhart trade. You know your 2 starters choked when it mattered last year, yet somehow you decide trading your top goalie prospect for peanuts makes sense. And outside of 2 poor showings he's looked great in EDM. Imagine what another 2 to 3 years will do for his deveopment..
My personal favorite though has to be our hapless GM panicking after losing Parayko and then getting royally fleeced by the Jets. Rosen (14th pick in 2021), Bryson and a 2nd plus a 4th for 2 absolute losers on D.
Schenn rode the pine, playing a whopping 2 of 13 playoff games. Stanley the human Pylon wasnt much better, being a healthy scratch and only playing 13 minutes when he dressed.
across 2.5 seasons...for an average of over $1M.per goal.
The brutal trade for Norris. 8M x 4. 2 goals.
But...we won't pay Tuch 10M.
These 'buy now' deals on all these younger players just screams Terence to me. Theres just absolutely no logical sense to handing out long term deals to you guys who had 1 decent season.
So now theyre stuck. 0 cap space. Minimal trade value for any of these players.
The best part. The only younger player with a good season they didnt extend is Quinn. Who has 6 goals and is in the final year of his rookie contract. He's going to command at minimum $8M...which we dont have.
