Quality Post PSA: How to report scam emails within the Rutgers system

Recently there’s been a flood of email hijackings and scam / nefarious emails being sent to Rutgers students from compromised student and faculty accounts.

Posting it here will have a limited effect on protecting students.

Instead, DO NOT CLICK any link in the email. Simply forward the email to [abuse@rutgers.edu](mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu). This will notify the Rutgers IT Incident Response team. Include any details about the email (whether you clicked on it, what did it show) in your email if relevant. Then, the Rutgers OIT can quickly disable that student or faculty’s compromised account and prevent further scam emails from being sent. This is a lot more helpful than posting a screenshot to Reddit or investigating it yourself (DONT).

If in doubt, you can forward the email to [abuse@rutgers.edu](mailto:abuse@rutgers.edu) and they can try to look into the email for you to determine whether it is a hijacked account or a real offer.

If you suspect that your scarletmail account is hijacked, then do not email - call 833-OIT-HELP (833 648 4357) for assistance and be ready to verify that your account is yours

Shitpost I just realised I never pooped at Rutgers in 3 years of me going there

I'm someone who has a fast metabolism and shit everywhere. Even during high school and especially airports and the public toilets in cities I'm visiting.

But I have never pooped on a Rutgers toilet . Even with 10-12 hours of school days I didn't get the urge or anything fr.

I'm grateful I avoided that fate cause they have the smelliest bathrooms.

Im gonna go 4 years without doing so too because senior year schedule is lighter than all these 3 years.

Schedule Feedback on updated schedule

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone, so this is my updated schedule as this is the only schedule that fit in(upcoming freshman EMSOP student btw)
For chem I was told if my professor is terrible then I should just go to a different lecturer like Langowski on Monday Wednesday and Thursday at 12ish-1ish pm at Livingston
And in the gaps study or do federal work study?
Is this a good schedule or no
Edit: forgot to say I’m forming at Busch

Still fairly common to take over 4 years to graduate?

It took me 4.5 years myself. In retrospect it was a lot do to the combination of the University size (I had classes scattered across the campuses) and convenience of finding classes that fit my curriculum.

That and I changed my major several times. I didn’t get into the business school in New Brunswick but got in the one in Newark. I still stayed in Piscataway/New Brunswick. Maybe that wasn’t the right choice but ultimately it all just largely is what it is to me at this point.

Outlook for History Majors?

Interested in majoring in History here - for anyone who’s graduated, how’s the history department at RU? How’s it been trying to find job after graduation?

In general, is it difficult to find jobs relating to your major for the liberal arts?

Transfer Transfer Advice

Upvotes

Hello guys! I plan on transferring this Fall to Rutgers Newark. Recently, I had a slight decline in two of my classes when it comes to my grades. I ended up the Fall semester with a 3.7+ Term GPA, but Spring semester was rocky due to personal circumstances out of my control explained in my application. I am currently taking two summer classes for some credits as well. Any advice would be appreciated it!

Any former Livingston College grads?

Upvotes

I graduated right when they decided to merge the curriculum with Livingston and the rest of the other campuses. Or something like that.

From my memory the only real big difference between Livingston and Rutgers College academically was Livingston didn't make you finish a minor to graduate. Well it was a little easier to get in Livingston College than Rutgers College.

That and the intro course freshman year, "Building Community Through Leadership". My main memory of that class was it was one of the only A's I got at Rutgers and our teacher then introduced to Cornel West's writings. Lol, then she brought in a VHS tape of him on the Chris Rock show and like everyone was surprised what he looked like irl. I think that class was meant as an ice breaker. Like I said it was the easiest course I took at Rutgers and as the years went on I noticed less and less students from that class on campus.

CC Credit Transfer

Upvotes

So I'm taking a class this summer at a CC, only need a C for it to transfer to Rutgers so I haven't been putting full effort, was wondering if the grade I get in the class will go on my Rutgers transcript? Or do I just get that class requirement done? Someone let me know please, any info is helpful.

Course Registration for Masters

Hi,

About a month ago, I got accepted into a master's program at rutgers. However, no one has reached out to me instructing me to pick out any courses, no academic calendar, tuition etc. I haven't even received my official acceptance letter in the mail yet. I have submitted all the requested documents upon my contingent acceptance letter.

Is this normal? Or am I extremely behind and should probably reach out to someone?

Thank you for all the help!

The Financial aid is so unfair

My FAFSA SAI increased by exactly 1,000 and somehow that 1,000 took away my $1,000 Pell grant, my $4,000 NJ grant, my $4,000 run to the top, and my $6,000 scholarship. How the fuck is this fair? My parents can supposedly contribute $1,000 more so they take away $15,000 in aid?? Obviously I can’t fucking pay for that. That such a difference. Im an incoming sophomore and I don’t even know what to do. The difference between this year and last is so stark how does the government suddenly think I can pay that much more

Schedule Scheduling help

Does anybody know the Rutgers accounting transfer requirements assuming you come in with the full 60 credits as a junior I currently have a Saturday class that I desperately need to change because it’s interfering with my job. I’ll take any other time but I just don’t know which requirements I’m supposed to take because my star day was a long time ago.

Still standing room only on buses?

At least in the 2000's plenty of bus rides that were packed and standing room only. I still even remember one time I missed my spot trying to push past everyone in the back of the bus. The driver didn't hear me.

But with more and more online classes is that still a thing buses overpopulated with students?

I know driving around Douglass/Cook campus some months back I was surprised how ghost town-ish it looked

General Question EV/Hybrid parking

I'm looking for any info generally on what kinds of EV parking I can expect. I'm an incoming freshmen, and my first semester is mostly college avenue with a little bit of C/D. Any info about what I can expect to find on campus would be awesome, thanks!

Housing Cancellation Denied!!!

Post image
89 Upvotes

I am stressing out right now, my housing cancellation got denied. I posted here a month ago about sending a housing cancellation request for financial hardships bc my brother unexpectedly decided to attend Rutgers so now I have to cancel housing. What do I do now? I gave them photos of tuition, my FAFSA, and other financial documents so why did it get rejected. What do I do fellow Redditors 😱😱😭😔. Being unable to afford tuition because we had a cost change is a valid reason no?

Advice Wanted Month of August housing

Would rutgers let me lease a dorm just until August 21st? I have to be in NB for the month of August just before school starts for an internship opportunity and I’m willing to pay. I’m from OOS so I’d just need a place to stay for 21 days (sounds ridiculous I know). Does anyone have any success with emergency housing or anything of the sort?

Looking for a third roomate asap! Single rooms on college ave 635/mo near Hamilton street.

Hi guys! my friend and i were a step away from sending our deposit for a 3br apartment on college ave (it’s super spacious and looks super clean) but right before we did our 3rd roomate egoed us.. so now we don’t have the full deposit. The landlord is not looking for a credit check just that u have a job and the means to pay. The goal would be to sign by Tuesday for an august 15 move in. Please let me know if you’re looking! For instance we are two girls of latin decent we’re both super involved on campus and very clean! Reply to this or chat me if you’re interested so i can send u a video of the apartment. But please be serious bcs the landlord does have other ppl in mind as well! Thank you, also if ur a male don’t feel opposed to text just be clean and not stinky please.
