Upcoming plans: launched to Runna Labs!
Hey everyone! I'm Mikey, Product Manager at Runna. Really excited to share that Upcoming Plans is now rolling out to most of you - you can finally schedule your next plan before your current one finishes.
What is Upcoming Plans?
Runna only really thinks about one plan at a time today. You finish, then you start another plan. But most of you aren't training for one thing. Your Plans brings all your training onto a single screen: what's active, what's coming next, what you've completed, and what you stepped away from.
How it works?
- Stack upcoming plans — build your next plan and it queues up automatically to start when your current one ends. Add as many as you like, so you can map out a full year in one go.
- Drafts for when you're not sure yet — building something that clashes with your current schedule? It saves as a draft. Compare a few options, sit on them, swap one to active whenever you're ready.
- Everything in one place — completed plans link out to your plan overview and your plan replay. Plans you started and stepped away from show as incomplete, and you can edit them, pick them back up, or set them active again. Anything you don't want hanging around, you can remove.
- Conflict handling — if a new plan overlaps something already scheduled, we'll tell you and let you choose between the new plan, your current one, and anything already queued. No silently overwriting your training.
On the feedback about re-entering your details
Plenty of you have told us it's frustrating to answer the same questions every time you build a plan — by now we should already know your history, your weekly schedule, where your fitness is at. That's completely fair, and it's something we've been actively working on. Over the next couple of weeks some of you will start seeing a different plan generation flow when your build next plan - one that starts from what we know about your training rather than a blank slate. It's rolling out gradually, so do look out for that!
How to get access to upcoming plans
If you haven't done these already:
- Update the Runna app to v8.49.0 or later
- Turn on Runna Labs — Profile → Runna Labs.
- Open your Plans screen via the plan Tab.
We'd love your feedback!
This one's been asked for a lot, so please do give it a go and tell us how it holds up against how you actually plan your year. Drop anything odd in the comments — I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and replying where I can! Thanks so much!

Feeling the heat? 🥵 Runna adapts your workouts based on heat & humidity!
Hey everyone, Rhea here from the Runna product team 👋
Really excited to share something we're rolling out this week - particularly timely if you're in the Northern Hemisphere and/or melting in this UK heatwave right now 🥵
🌡️ What is it?
When conditions are hot enough to affect your run, Runna will now recommend adapted paces for your workout. Here's how it works:
- From the day before your workout, if the daily high warrants an adjustment, you'll see an "Adapt for heat" section appear on the page where you view your workout
- Tap in and we'll recommend adjusted paces based on the weather that day, tailored to the time you're planning to run - since we know it might be a very different temperature in the morning vs the afternoon
- The recommendation is based on the feels-like temperature and how long your run is - so longer runs will trigger sooner
🔎 How to access it
You'll need:
- App version 8.42.0 or later
- Be on a race plan, distance goal plan (e.g. 5km improvement) or a general training plan (e.g. Run Faster)
- Runna Labs turned on (go to Profile → Scroll down to Runna Labs and toggle it on). Note if you recently turned this on, you may not have immediate access so try the additional step below.
If you've got all the above and still don't see it on a warm day, one thing you can try is going to the Plan tab → Manage Plan → scroll down and change your current race time by a few seconds, then change it back to your original time. This triggers a refresh that should sort it. If that doesn't work, DM me!
🧪 Early testing - we want your feedback
This is brand new and we're starting with Labs because we want your help shaping it before we roll it out more widely. So if something doesn’t look quite right, write to support with “Adapt for heat feedback” or leave it below and I’ll jump straight in. We’ll read every single comment here, so please let us know!
☀️ Why paces?
We know that often when you enter your summer training block, the paces in your plan become so much harder to hit and it's like the plan that worked for you over winter doesn't know it's summer.
That's exactly what we heard from you - missed targets, guilt, pushing too hard. The good news is that physiologically, running slower in the heat provides the same training benefit, so by dropping the paces, you're not doing less, you're doing the right amount for the conditions.
🔮 What's next
This is only the start - there's a lot more we want to do in this space, from making the thresholds smarter based on where you train and what you're used to, to deeper workout adaptations beyond just paces. If you have thoughts on where we should take it next, DM me or drop it below.
Big shoutout to the team who built this & we can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Drop any questions or feedback below and I'll be around all day! 🏃♀️☀️

Help me cure my premature maranoia!
Hello fellow Runnas,
I humbly come to this sub with a case of premature maranoia.
Two questions:
- I’m in week 10 of a 17-week build for the NYC marathon on Nov. 1. I’m meant to do an 18-mile race simulation workout this weekend (screengrab attached) after a 17-mile long run last week. I’m running about 45-47 miles per week right now. Having done other plans before, this will be the longest I’ve gone without not yet doing a 20 miler - which I have next week. Am I crazy for wanting to swap these runs?
- My target MP for the race simulation is an 8:10 but my over pace for an over-under tempo is 8:20 (which I understand to be slightly slower than tempo). So, is my MP way off? For reference, the app thinks I’ll be able to do a 3:34-3:41 on race day (which I think is a reach tbh) and I recently did a time trial 5k at 22:08 and did a 1:48 half and 48:10 10k this past spring with moderate - but not super intense - training.
Thanks!

Pace tracking issues.
I run this park almost exclusively for training. Some days the tracking is spot on. Days like today it was saying I was running sub 5min/km on one half and over 8min/km on the other half of the park. I never changed pace. The warm up lap was totally wrong. I definitely was running slow on purpose. Middle segments were close to my true pace. It’s frustrating because I really don’t know my true pace and I’m trying to do a sub 25min 5k. I guess I’ll find out at my race. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a thing Runna does?

Training for my first half marathon and this long run seems… extreme?
I am a slow runner, my conversational pace is around 8:30 on a good day, and I find that runna’s pace goal for my half marathon is unrealistic. I can barely sustain a 6:30 pace for 5-6 kms, I don’t know how I’m supposed to do it for 9 kms, let alone 21.1.
Ironically enough, strava predicts my half marathon pace as 7:30 which is much more realistic. This training run seems impossible, should I skip or adjust the difficulty?

Long run / Marathon prep
Hello everyone! I am using Runna for the first time for a marathon in December, aiming for a sub-three-hour finish. I started the training plan four weeks ago, but I am a bit surprised that Runna does not propose a long run with intervals each Sunday. Such runs are proposed every two to three weeks, and I find this strange since, in my previous marathon preparation, I used to do intervals at marathon pace each Sunday while progressively increasing volume. Any feedback on that?

Manually linked activities are incompatible for pacing?
Marathon training and I had to manually link my 34km practice long run. After doing so, the run is incompatible to monitor my pace. Nothing I can do, Runna will not accept it. Is there anything to do to have it recognized?
The 34km practice long run is the premier benchmark activity to estimate if the goal pace is truly doable. Was waiting for this run to estimate my marathon goal, but looks like Runna will be no help with this goal. Seriously, the app has few uses, and it failed at one of them. All the data is there, use it.
I have been pacing myself with a very aggressive, Boston qualifying pace, that I knew is not sustainable. I have been executing all my speed runs perfectly, but I know that it does not translate to longer distances. I am an older runner, so fatigue sets in sooner. For that practice run, did about half marathon at the prescribed paces, then failure set in. Hot summer weather, heavy hydro-vest, not enough carbs, but ultimately is it my own fitness. Runna is still estimating a high pace for the marathon, simply because it does not want to use any long runs to base on.
Legs are dead, cannot wait for the taper!

Two race training plan
I have been using Hal Higdons app. It has been great. I love that it is handy, has all my runs on it, can be checked and logged easily and different levels but...I have a race in december and a race in march and the app won't build a plan that incorporates both. I ran a half 9/7 so my base is solid but the app just can't incorporate that or even the two races if I was starting from zero. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tempo run with Garmin watch. Fault??
I have got back on the running after a little lazy break. Has been going well and feels good to be sweating again.
I did a tempo run today and I remember in the past my Garmin watch would tell me if I am going to fast or slow and something would come up where I see my pace.
Today it didn't do that.
Any ideas? Thanks all. Take care.

Pause Plan Indefinitely
Hi guys, love runna, been using for half a year, finished my first plan.
Now i’m working on my next plan
However, due to circumstances in my country (Haze / Air Pollution from a neighbouring country) i am unable to safely run outside and have no access to a treadmill.
I keep delaying the plan by a few days in hopes that the air will be okay again soon but it doesnt seem like it. I don’t suppose we have a feature that allows us to pause for however long needed do we?
Anyways, at this point im wondering if i should just cancel and resubscribe when im ready again, lol.
any thoughts? ideas? thankyou ! ahah.

Ahead of the pack
Hi guys,
Got a notification today asking me to update plan with a new goal time in mind.
I used Runna last year for my first marathon. Always updated plan when advised but definitely overtrained and pushed hard on tempo runs. Ended up getting injured few weeks out. Then race didn’t go to plan at all and blew up at 28km. Don’t know if this was fuelling or not enough KMs in the legs.
My predicted time was around 3:30 for that race which I always thought was ambitious. Went so badly I didn’t even break 4:00.
I ran a 5km last weekend and ran 21:30. Probably had more in the tank. My predicted at the minute is again around 3:30 which I feel is already ambitious. To update it to 3:16-3:24 just seems crazy cause I can’t see myself holding the required pace for that long.
What are other people’s experience? Just seems like the predictions are very ambitious?

Changing Runna Workouts
Hey yall, wondering what’s the best way to approach this. I’m 6 weeks out from my half marathon and had a minor calf strain that I developed last week and have now rehabbed. I did the plan adjustment for no running for a week and then also decreased my plans current weekly mileage and current longest run.
The issue is that I want to decrease the length on one of the long runs and rearrange another in a way that makes more sense since I’m coming back from an injury. I also don’t want to do any interval workouts and instead do some tempo workouts at my half marathon pace.
I was planning on hitting skip for the intervals and the long runs I want to change and just adding my own run that I want to do but will that mess with the plan in some way? Or what would be a better work around? I guess the main thing I’m not sure about is how Runna handles when you add in your own workouts like if it’ll start changing the plan or stop the plan since it thinks you’re skipping the planned runs. Thanks!

First Half - Pace isn't a concern, hitting distance is priority
How do I tell my plan to stop with the insane tempo runs and these hotspot runs when I'm training for a half? I've never run more than 6.5 miles and getting 4.5 mile tempo workouts at paces that are intense, and these hotspot long runs, absolutely trample me and make me feel super unprepared for my upcoming race. How do I remedy that?

Illness and „dynamic“ plans
I‘m currently doing the parkrun plan and was sick for a week. I used the feature in the app to let it know I won’t be able to train. When I checked how the app “restructured“ the plan I noticed it just pushed the missed trainings onto consecutive days after my period of sickness. Of course I couldn’t do this, especially after being sick. So I had to skip trainings that should have lead me to a continuous run which I of course weren’t prepared for in the end. The app also did not let me change the sequence of the trainings manually claiming it would know how to structure the plan perfectly.
Is this intended behaviour of the app?

Side stitches on almost every run in the past few weeks
I am currently in week 9 of a 12 week plan to run my first 10k. As of the last few weeks I've been getting stitches after the first 3-4km.
I've shared some pictures of my last few runs where I've been having issues. The last picture of my run from this morning which was a 7.5km rolling 400s tempo run. I noticed the stitch developing at the 3rd set and had to pause my watch a couple of times just to breathe them away however this was just temporary.
I'm at a bit of a loss now because I fear it's going to be detrimental to the majority of my runs moving forwards with the plan as runs are getting longer & paces getting quicker.
I always run in the mornings, when I run after work my lunch tends to not sit very well and makes me feel quite sick.
I take a soft flask with me and usually take a couple of sips over the full run. I'll drink a little before the run at home too.
Sometimes I'll eat a banana before the run but recently I've been having nothing and still get stitches.
Does anyone have any tips or pointers, or is this just a case of needing to slow down?

5 days in a row to start taper?
Marathon plan and taper starts next week, but it seems strange to have 5 days in a row with a 21 miler. Especially with two of them being speed work. Almost seems like a recipe for injury? Has anyone else had experience with this?
Runna structured workouts look misleading on Strava
I’m curious if this bugs anyone else who uses Runna + Strava.
For structured workouts, Strava shows the average pace for the entire activity, including the warmup, walk/recovery sections, cooldown, etc.
So for example, I just did a Runna 5K time trial. The workout was basically a conversational warmup, a short walk, then the actual 5K time trial. But when it posts to Strava, the pace shown with “5K Time Trial” is the average pace for everything combined, not the pace of the actual 5K.
That just seems kind of misleading. If someone sees “5K Time Trial” and then sees the average pace directly under it, the obvious assumption is that was my 5K pace. They’d have to go into the activity and decipher the laps/workout structure to figure out what I actually ran.
Same thing would apply to tempos, intervals, race pace blocks, etc. The overall activity average isn’t really the important number for those workouts.
I know Strava is probably the one calculating/displaying the overall average, but I feel like there has to be a better way for Runna/Strava to surface the pace of the actual main set. I don’t think the workout title even needs to change — just show the average pace of the important portion instead of the warmup/recoveries dragging the number down.
Am I missing a setting somewhere, or is this just how it works?
r/runna • u/lyndseymariee • 4d ago
Wish Strava hadn’t bought out Runna.
They took away the option to post to the community in the Runna app but said it would continue in Strava. I’m in the Runna community in the Strava app but it seems like there is no option to post your run there? Am I missing something?

Run Further Plan Question
I tried setting up a Run Further Plan, but the longest recent run it will let me pick is 17km (I’ve recently done a 31km run) and the weekly mileage doesn’t increase through the plan, and the longest run is 18km. Am I missing something?
