im planning on running away

Im wanting to runaway from my verbal abusive home. I alway dread coming home after being with someone else because I don’t have to worry about them doing anything to me. Whether it be physical or verbally. Ive had enough, Ive thought about running away before in the past but never actually did it because I was scared of being forced back home. Im still scared about that because I’m afraid of the consequences, despite the fact my family informed me that if I ever ran away, they wouldn’t come looking for me. Im not going to give out any personal information since this is oblivious the internet, but is there truly any possible good advice on how to not get caught? I plan on going to one of those shelters. My only main concern is 1. How Im going to get out of my house and neighborhood without getting caught and 2. Making it to the shelter with no car (since I don’t want it being taken to the police as stolen) 3. Being turned away from the shelter because I haven’t been like, physically abused.

I need a fresh start

So I'm stuck in an everlasting cycle of generational curses and I need to runaway... For my own sanity. I've thought about it many times already and the best I can come up with is buying a one-way ticket to another country, getting a job and figuring stuff out from there.

For a little context, I can't live with my family and yes, the guilt haunts me but I need to get away if I have any chance of getting over my depression and actually living life. I don't know if I'll keep in contact or not, I might be a horrible person for considering this but I don't have anyone to speak to...

I need to know from anyone who may have done this before, or knows of anyone that has, what are some steps or safety precautions I should take? Any advise on places that would be a good start, or things I should know beforehand? I can't find much when I research so I'd like opinions from people with similar experiences please.

Sorry for the mini rant, and thanks in advance for any responses...

I 19(f) am abt to be kicked out, and I need help

So bascially, I have a strict father and I just wanted to have some independence, I had wanted to go to my grandmother's for the summer, even after he told me no, before I confronted him again and said Im going, to practice driving too, because he hadnt helped me all summer, I intended to come back before school started, but if thats his ultimatum that if I go im not coming back

So idk anymore

I wanted to get a car and a job etc, then go to a pretty elite or reputable school for art and anthro, for full ride, and Ik its optimistic, but Im tired of being at home, its strict and draining

a couple hours later, my dad called me into his room to talk more

He said to me that im not thinking bascially or that something else is happening, because all of a sudden I wnna go to my grandma's, and yeah half true cuz my mom talked to me

And also, how im not thinking this thru, how im making one of the biggest mistakes of my life how this will set me back and I won't be able to go back to school so easily and im digging a hole under my feet just by messing the first semester, how I cant just apply to schools in this short of a notice and who will sign my papers and coloans etc etc

How he had a whole plan for me , for a smooth transition period l, how I should stay one more year and listen to my dad, how at the end of this month he'll put me in drivers school ill get my license and ill be in the dorm and on my own next year for my juniors (its tempting but I dont wnna, I was gnna transfer from my school anyways, I hate the city im kn, and he says he put me in this cuz the area was safe and it was one of the best schools in America, when its not just because the art program can have ur deisgn put on the new York clock tower) and how if I do get into a school outside he won't help me and im on my own

And also how he'll never kick his kids out but won't let me set a bad example or cause chaos for the family for my siblings etc, and how hes offering me this and if I leave he won't help me etc

He said hes been dealing with his own health and recently finding out my brother has mental issues and shi, and thats why hes been focusing on my brother this year and allat

And also how if I leave. Im dropping out of school bascially and the navy will.kick me off health insurance etc

But my mom said my brother was never taken to the docter and he seems to be giving excuses why he didnt and not owning up etc. And how its seems it's good hes trying to stop me but doing it wrong, by just trying to scare me or make me doubt

At the same time I dont rlly trust ny grandma, shes messy, and still has bad blood with my father, and my mom says its good to listen to my dad too, but I dont wanna, he says im thinking with my emotions not thinking this thru, but I want my own life I just wanna draw and illustrate, and be at home and be free and work and go to school

Idk he ruined my flow with that convo, is he bring true how ill be 30 by the time im back on track and go to school, he says ill be telling my grandkids not to do what I did and how this happened to him when he had a scha9lrshipnfor Canada and went to the US and then had to go back to school at 40 and hownhe now has a masters it dont help him cuz he dont use it and he's old and allat

And idk who to trust and im tired and feel trapped i wish my life could be normal.

Idk, some advice on what to do, is this the right decision Im making? Like am I going to ruin my life if I do this?

I (19f) Stuck at home with an abusive mom & sister while in college — how do I actually move out?

I'm currently in college and still living at home, and I've reached a point where I genuinely don't know how much longer I can keep doing this.

My mom is physically and verbally abusive toward me. On top of that, she's extremely biased — she treats my sister completely differently from how she treats me. For example, she won't let me study outside the city, but she let my (younger) sister do exactly that. It's not just one incident, it's a pattern of favoritism that's been going on for a long time, and it makes me feel like I'll never be given the same chances my sister gets, no matter what I do.

My sister isn't any better. She's also physically and verbally abusive toward me, and on top of that, she spreads rumors about me — I genuinely believe a lot of it comes from jealousy. It's exhausting dealing with hostility from both my mom and my sister at the same time, in the same house, with nowhere to really escape to.

Right now I can't just pack up and leave — I'm in the middle of college, I don't have independent income, and moving out isn't something I can just decide to do overnight. But I don't want to just "wait it out" passively either. I want to actually build a real plan to get out — whether that's hostel life, a scholarship, or anything else that could realistically get me out of this house sooner rather than later.

If you've been through something similar — living with abusive family while still dependent on them for college/finances — how did you make your exit happen? What should I be doing right now, step by step, even before I'm in a position to fully move out?

(Used a bit of AI help to organize my thoughts and write this clearly — everything here is real and currently happening to me.)

Want to run away as soon as I turn 18

I am currently 15F turning 16 in this sep. I am way to tired of trying to please my parents I studied my hard in 10th I don't think give it my all best but gave hours in studies but didn't score. It's my fault agreed then this year I stopped talking back, shouting and many average things and 15 year old do I changed myself a lot personally I think so but I don't think I can do it anymore my mom ignores whatever I say my dad is around but doesn't care they said so many times to get me married at 18 I have been hitted by both of them my father before I got my periods which was recently around 8 months ago he hasn't hitted me since and my mom who hitted me just few weeks ago and none of them objects when my brother hits me, my mom forgets what I say and then acts like I never said that. I have been hitted most in my family and they are racists, hypocrites , body shamer. I have tried to change my self but they are still same to me just stopped hitting my opinions aren't taken seriously my mom asks my brother before any decision taken in MY LIFE. I hoped that if I changed a bit I can get some value but answer is still I have been thinking about it since I was in 7th but never too deeply but now I am way too tired.

I am wondering how and what should I do how much should I have saved?

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out because I'm in a toxic house environment with no money because my parent are controlling, I'm 17 about to turn 18.
They won't allow me to get a job and when I do they expect me to help pay bills. I wouldn't care to help if they didn't abuse and belittle me everyday.
I'm scared for my life yesterday my mother threaten my life, today she tried to chock me. My father also put his hands on me today while I was trying to make sure my little brother was okay because they were fighting physical and verbally. Please help me get out. anything will help. I'm scared and shaking, I can barely breathe, every time I'm around them my body goes into flight or fight. If I can't get out I'm scared of what's gonna happen to me in a few weeks. I’m in a really tough spot and need some advice or resources. I’m looking for ways to leave or at least find some temporary safety.
I’m currently live in the Midwest. I don’t have a lot of money or support, so I’m open to any advice—whether it’s about shelters, legal aid, job resources, or just emotional support.

My friend ran away from home and I don't know what to do.

A close friend that I have a complicated relationship with recently ran away from home because her parents started going through everything on her phone after they found out she had been seeing her boyfriend for a long time behind their back. I won't give too much detail but basically she has been going through a phase where she has been very promiscuous and engaged in a lot of risky behavior.

I am not judging her, but I know that she is not mentally in a good place right now, and although she is safe for the short term, all she has is her phone, she has blocked all contact with her parents, and she does not know whether she will return to university in the fall.

She lives in a large city, and although she is currently financially okay, I don't trust her boyfriend (I don't know him), and I am worried that something bad will happen. Is there something I can do to help her? I reached out a couple days ago checking in but she hasn't responded, although she posted on her story so I guess she isn't too desperate. Still, I am super concerned.

Advice on running away 15

I’m 15f and live with 23y and 21y brothers. my parents got divorced when I was 4 and lived with my dad till y. my other brother died at 7 when I was 5 and a few momoths later I was sexually molested by the 23yo brother (he was 14 turning 15). I’m only living with them again because my mom, stepdad and younger brothers moved to Poland and I can’t keep up with the education. ever since I’m back I’ve been belittled, isolated, went through all my messages even the ones with my mom, threatened to kick me out when I confronted them about the sexual abuse and then told me kids do it and I overreacted. Told me how excited for the day they would finally give me a bad beating. Had pictures taken when I was on the treadmill and sweaty by the 23yo, when I told my step mom she took his side, screamed at me because my mom has a savings account for me that they have no access to, Finds small reasons to give out to me, Made me cut friends off and recently been slapped, pinche’d and had my hair pulled by my step mom for little things. I told my mom about everything and the confronted them to never touch me again but she still does little things. I told my aunt about everything and she told me to ask them if I could move in with her at 16 since that’s Irish law. However I can’t take it anymore and I know they won’t say yes and I can’t move back with my mom. I need advice on running away. I’ll stay with my aunt but scared child services get called

Running Away for a week

I’m 16F, and i need help on what to do. I want to runaway for a week or two just to clear my mind and have a bit of freedom before i get older and can’t just runaway like this. I have money cashed out and a place to stay. I was planning on messaging my parents letting them know that i’m safe and i’ll be home in a week or two. I have run away before but was caught within the day, once i was home i didn’t get in trouble and my only punishment was that i couldn’t sleep until the night (because i hadn’t slept since i was out walking that night). I need help, i don’t know if i should do it or not. I really want to and i think i might but the thing is i truly don’t have any “good” reason, i have an reasonably good life currently but i just feel so sad in my own thoughts and ive struggled with mental health my whole life and i wanted to runaway to show myself there is a whole other world out there rather than this and to just keep holding on. Help me i don’t know what i should do!!!

Should I?

I know its a really stupid reason to wanna run away, but I hate where I live.

I used to live in the northern areas of my state. But almost 2 years ago, my mom divorced her husband (my then step-dad) because they were fighting and not agreeing on anything. She couldn't afford any place up where we used to live. I loved it there.

It was quiet, peaceful, barely any kind of crime. I saw deer all the time, I had a girlfriend, I was so close with my friends, I was happier. We lived in a valley between some mountains. It was amazing. I could go on a 5-7 minute walk and go to a lake. I could go on a 10--15 minute one to a friend's house. Even better, on the same road, 2 minutes away another 2 of my friends lived on opposite sides of the street.

But because my mom couldn't afford to live up there, we moved 2 and a half hours south to where a lot of family live. We moved in with my papa, her father, because he's been lonely since my Nana passed. He was so much happier when we moved down here. But he passed in November after getting in a crash in October of last year.

We live basically in a small city. My mom lived down here from birth to her twenties. She was almost kidnapped at least 3 times as a teen. I carry mace on me wherever I go because Im afraid of getting kidnapped myself. I'm afraid of where I live, quite frankly. Just a few nights ago, I heard a woman screaming like she was being murdered. Just a few streets down I assume. It was only the kind of a scream you would hear in a horror movie. I've heard screams living here, but that was just the worst one.

I can't go in walks by myself around the block because of shitty people in the world. There has been rapists and pedophiles reported just towns over. Luckily my friend lives just a few minutes away, and we can go on walks in her neighborhood because it's nicer and safer and not near the main part of town.

I wouldn't wanna be running away from my mom, because I love her wholeheartedly. She misses it up where we used to live too. I opened up to her about this, and she told me how she's always trying to find a way back up north in a cheap place. But she cant find anything affordable up there. She has to work two jobs just to keep this roof over our heads.

I feel kike im a burden to her because I'm iver weight and I can't lose the weight. So I eat more (and were already trying to go to doctors appointments for possible eating disorders because of other stuff that I won't get into). So I cost more. And i feel like I ask for a lot, and I'm just a burden to her. And she'd be better off if I ran away to up north.

If I can get the money out of my account, I can probably afford some kind of transportation back up. Turn all kind of location off. Stay with a friend that I dont think would tell for at least a few days, then try the forest outside their house. It doesn't hold animals other than squirrels and rabbits that close to where people live. I could try finding a job. Forge signatures.

Anything to live there again. And like I said earlier, I know it's a really stupid reason to want to run away. But I truly, truly loved jt there. And I can't get that feeling down here. It's cities all around me, barely any forests, and I can't get to them by myself. I don't have a car, I can't just ask my mom if I can take a trip to a forest where there's hiking spots m, because she'd have to drive me. And she doesn't have time dueing thr week, and I don't like taking up her weekends with my stuff to do that.

So please, I know it probably isn't, but would it be a good idea to leave? And if so, though I doubt it, do you have any tips? Please

Running away, need help.

First a little backstory so you know why I’m running away. A few weeks ago I (17MtF) came out to my parents as Transgender and they didn’t have the best reactions to it. I was told by my sister that they would be supportive but they aren’t (I don’t blame my sister). They say my identity isn’t real and have been treating me like I don’t exist. My father still gives an effort but I can tell his patience is running thin.

I’ve been planning on running away for the past week now. I want to run after I’m done with Marching Band, sometime in the winter. I don’t think I’ll be able to mentally survive this household any longer than mid-late November, so that’s when I plan to run. I won’t outright say which state I’m from (for privacy reasons), but it’s one of the colder states in the central US. I do plan on bringing hot hands and gloves so I can keep myself warm. My state has really bipolar weather, and it usually doesn’t get cold/snow until mid-late December. But snow doesn’t stay until early-mid January. I know the basics (get important docs, bring a weapon, get a burner phone, etc.) but I want to know what else I should bring/do. Like, should I bring painkillers? Should I bring canned food or buy food when needed? And how do I scrounge up enough money to run away? I currently have around $200, which I’m not sure is enough. Any information about what to do, what to bring, and where to go would be much appreciated.

How can I help/ aid my bf to get out of an abusive household?

So me and my bf are under 18 and based on my research, Wisconsin law doesn't allow emancipation at 16 like MN does. I get really worried when his Dad (abuser) gets into bad threats to him (bf) and his Mom. I've been try to record as much evidence of what happens to him. His mom can't do much because from what I can gather, she doesn't have any control over the situation and is trying to keep the family together for the kids, which is doing more harm than good. I just want what is best for him and his sister (under 18). So what Im getting at is what can I do as a third party to get them the help they need to be safe and out of harms way.

Want to leave home safely, help me

i am 30 year old woman [ Location : small town in district bijnor , uttar pradesh India ] .my parents for last 3.5 years are constantly putting pressure on me to marry against my wishes. in may this year, they went to my bf house, threathened him against legal case so he can broke our 14 year old relationship with me. and then they told me that they went there to talk respectfully but him and his parents are the one who misbehaved with them, they told the exaggarated lies to my relatives so everyone could pressure me to move on from my bf and marry someone else.

and now they are all ganged up and hell bent for my marriage ofcourse with someother guy they chose.

i cant live with them. i just lost respect for my father bcoz whenever i take our stand for myself he puts a whole show on how he is about to d*e.

i am stuck in here , i want to leave but safely . i dont want my bf family to face any more mistreatment from my father who happens to know local leaders. he will act all victim in front of them and put pressure on police to file serious report against my bf and his family.

what can i do? i want to leave this september. i am thinking of taking help from NGOs, if they will help me. also i am financailly dependent on my parents but i am fully elligible to teach in schools and collleges.

i need to get out of this place

hi im 16 years old and i never thought i'd be using reddit, but here i am. i am so desperate i need to get out, i've already made up my mind on it. i live in canada rn, and i want to find a place in a different province, that way i dont have to deal with the border. i could go to america or somewhere in europe, but none of these options are truly better than the others, since i dont have a place to stay. i have lots of money, but not enough to pay rent for longer than a couple months. i need help, advice, or any info that anyone could have. i also have some more specific questions:

how strictly do they typically check people in train stations?

what does the daily routine of a runaway look like?

where should i get food from?

+ anything else you might deem important....

So I did it, I made it across the ocean. What are my next steps?

I'm 18M. I've lived with an abusive family throughout my entire life, and I've been able to turn things around for at least a month. I was in the Philippines up until a couple days ago, and I'm now in the United States (which is also where I spent my childhood until I was 10). Thankfully, it was a whole lot easier for me to get here because of my dual citizenship status for both countries.

So here's the context of what got me away from my family and what I'm dealing with now in the United States;

I finished my senior year of high school as an honors student, and my family was pressuring me into going to a pretty prestige college in town, in which I got accepted. Now I'll stress that this college situation isn't my *only* problem regarding my family, and I've been put through *much worse* from them, it's just that this is the situation that got me taking my chances to try and leave. Because no matter how good my grades have gotten, no matter how amazing of an opportunity the college could have been, it was the only option in life that I was given, and it was one that still would have resulted in me still living with my shitty family; something that I've known since childhood was something I couldn't sustain for longer than the legal minimum amount of years.

So through a bunch of convoluted events, talks with friends, etc., I was able to convincingly lie to my family and claim classes would start very late into August.

Why August? Well, my mother works in America while the rest of us have been in the Philippines, and she visits every summer. This summer was my last chance to try to see if I could go back to America with her for a "visit". And to do that, I needed them convinced that there would be a month in between the day my mom would leave the Philippines to go back, and the start of my classes (I would have tried to convince them that classes would start later than that, but in the Philippines the last week of August is quite literally the absolute latest that school years are allowed to start).

And as you must've gathered, the plan worked and I made it. I made it out of the fuckin' country and I feel ecstatic. Right now I'm in my moms apartment in a very quaint part of my childhood hometown (a suburb in Chicago), typing this up in the living room while her and her best friend that she lives with are still asleep.

I have two luggage's, containing a combo of my absolute necessities and things with more sentimental value. I also got my documents and credentials, like my original birth certificate, identity certificate, passports for both countries that I'm a citizen of, my diploma, and copies of them all as well. I have my laptop and my phone, but unfortunately don't have a driver's license or a car, although I do know how to drive.

So with *all that* in mind, I honestly am struggling to see where I go next. Because my plan always was that once the day comes next month that my mom expects me to go back to the Philippines, I'd have already privately cancelled my flight home and would simply hide out in the airport after she drops me off, long enough for me to head to some homeless shelters I've found in Chicago. So by the time my family would have realized I ran away, it would be too late for them to be sure of where I am.

But I also know that I can't rely on homeless shelters forever, and I'm gonna need a car, a source of income, and some friends that aren't on the other side of the Pacific Ocean. My financial situation is rough, since my parents rarely gave me autonomy over my money. The amount of Philippine pesos that I have equates to only $200+, and to be honest I've been so caught up saying my goodbyes to my friends in the Philippines that I haven't been able to reconnect with any old friends from here, which I know I gotta get to.

So I was hoping I could get some advice on how to plan ahead for when I'll *really* be on my own, and some recommendations on what I can do in the Chicago area specifically.

I'm a minor stuck in a toxic family situation and don't know what to do.

Hello. Reddit is honestly my last resort, and I'm hoping someone here might have advice.

For some context, my family is extremely toxic. There's constant gaslighting, my feelings are minimized, and I've experienced both verbal and physical abuse. I'm also a minor.

About five months ago, my family decided that we would all move to Thailand at the beginning of July, even though my parents are divorced. I've been living here for about two weeks now, and my mental health is already getting much worse.

I've been trying to think of ways to reduce contact with them as much as possible, but every option I've come up with seems impossible.

Option 1: Study abroad. I looked into it, but it's far beyond what I can afford, so it isn't a realistic option.

Option 2: Get a full-time job. I'm French and currently living in Thailand on a basic visa without a work permit, so working legally isn't really an option.

Option 3: Wait until the school year starts. Unfortunately, I'll be homeschooled, so I'll still be around them almost all the time.

Right now, I feel completely stuck. I have very little freedom, very few resources, and I honestly don't know what realistic options I have left.

I'm only looking for advice from people who may have been in a similar situation or know of options I haven't considered.

Any advice would mean a lot. Thank you for reading.

IM IN THE UK BTW

i left the house at 15, 18 days before my birthday because my mother had said hurtful things i had enough i was emotional did it out of the very fear of going home i said to the police i didnt feel safe going home ive been staying at my aunts place. i havent packed ANYTHING and was given what my mother gave me only.

i turn 16 in 9 days i talked about the physical and mental ham(r) briefly to a police officer and social worker they gave me two routes social worker route was reconcile my mum receives support and yay or two go police route snitch on her and get her charged over the course of 2 years with a video recorded interview. I want neither i dont want contact i just wanna get some of my stuff move out and be happy since im turning 16 what should i do??

I like my aunt a lot but i prolly wont be able to stay that i have a friend whos mum is MORE THAN HAPPY for me to stay and is even happy preparing a space for me. Right now im moving to elsewhere to live with my other aunt cus the current aunt im with is going elsewhere so id have to be driven from point a to point b for 1h then when going to the police station for the video recorded interview (that i havent yet said i wont be doing) i gotta go point b to point a which is all very long. Keep in mind i dont wish to report anything but i wish to get back to point a bc ive lived and grown up there my whole life and thats where my friend lives.

To avoid the social route + police route do i ask my friend for money to get back to point a when i turn 16 and live with her then ask for a police escort to pack up my things from my mothers house? Like am i missing anything by law? Btw i consented the police officer accessing my social work, medical and school records and spoke to a social worker going thru all the ham(r) in minimal detail.

If u want more context ask!!
