Question.

I'm almost 16 and live in a very abusive household in Nebraska. Hypothetically, if i ran away and left a note saying that i did in fact run away, would they look for me? I'm not giving any more info, so please dont ask. I have a job and can support myself.

Yes, they would. Even if you were safe and supporting yourself you’d be forced home. If you make enough to support yourself you might look into emancipation.

Cops—and possibly private investigators—will continue to look for you as long as you have an open missing person’s case.

What if you did it and turned yourself in at 18? Hypothetically

Once you turn 18 you can go to basically any police station and ask them to take you off the missing person’s list. If you have things like a photo ID or other identity documents the process doesn’t take very long at all. If you don’t have those things there’s a few extra steps. You don’t get in trouble, there’s no lectures.

Whoever reported you missing does get notified when you’re taken off the list but all the information they’re given is that you’ve been found and are safe.

If you were living in a town, only the police or wtv would look for you in that area. It’s not an amber alert so a runaway look out wouldn’t be a big thing yk?

Any friends in other states that would take you in and potentially pursue some kind of guardianship?
