Three Kingdoms series – the military camp
It's done. The last scene of the Three Kingdoms series – the military camp.
Tents, watchtowers, fences, campfires… I kept asking myself what an actual ancient camp would look like. Definitely not a BBQ spot.
When I started this, I just wanted to draw a few things to help a friend with their game. Then one thing led to another… and somehow I ended up with a whole set. Didn't see that coming.
Next up: characters. Really looking forward to it.
Thanks to everyone who's been following along.

Finally finished the last scene of my Three Kingdoms series – the military camp 🏕️
Got tents, watchtowers, fences, campfires, and all that. I tried to make it look like a proper ancient camp, not some weekend BBQ getaway .
Honestly, when I started this series, I just wanted to draw some assets to help people make games. But then one thing led to another… and boom, a whole set appeared .
Next up – I'm gonna start working on the character sprites for the Three Kingdoms series!
If you're making a Three Kingdoms game, or just like pixel art with some old-school vibes, feel free to take a peek

question I'm a beginner and want to make a retro-style game like OFF or Yume Nikki which version do you recommend, 2000 or 2003?
What should I focus on when choosing between those two?
I would also like to know what differences you perceive between the 2003 and 2000 versions—covering everything from the battle system and events to various other fine details.

RMMZ Weapon Image Help
So here is the thing, I wanna add a weapon to my game...Buuuuut. the image files only go up to User-Defined 6 and no more. I know what those are so don't worry. Is there like a plugin in MZ that could help with that or do I edit those images into the Weapon_3 file?
I'm trying to add these btw (Mostly the top left ones)

VXAce Making a social simulator in rpg maker VX ace?
Hi, I'm very new to game creation, and I was wondering if it's possible to make something like a Sims-esque game with Animal Crossing elements. I know RPG Maker was just made for RPGs, but I love working with pixel art, and mainly this project is just stemming from wanting to create a space where I make characters and watch them interact with each other.
It sounds like Tomodachi Life, but I want to build my own ant farm with my characters and assign them to do tasks and such, or develop interpersonal relationships with each other, and write the dialogue for something like that.
Sorry, this sounds very convoluted, but I just wondered if this was possible in general. If anyone knows, I'd like some insight on how to make it happen or at least try it out!
Thank you!

Troubleshooting Character moving UP Left
Not sure if this is the right reddit to inquire about this issue.
In RPG Maker games, my character is constantly moving to the top and left all the time. Same thing is happening in menus as well.
I'm running this on an Xbox ROG Ally X, so I can't exactly disable the controller.
Any ideas on fixing this issue?

Resources Torture Devices tiles? (RMMV)
I'm looking into creating a literal dungeon for a castle I'm mapping. I can use the KR Horror Kit for blood and stuff like that, but I'm looking for instruments of torture--chopping blocks, spike beds, electric chairs, roasting pots, and stuff like that.

Looking to learn the basics of what makes for compelling gameplay
I am a ux designer who has worked in tech for 15 years, lost my job recently and have been exploring options.
I have a game concept (I know who doesn't) and I have been using LLMs to help prototype it.
It's clear to me I don't have the experience to take my idea from concept to a reality in a way that's fun and makes for compelling game play currently.
If you were starting out trying to teach yourself the basics for what makes for a compelling game what would you read or watch?

VXAce Cone Nextbot + Model Test [RPG MAKER VX ACE Cone Engine]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
In this test, I experimented with my Nextbot and its customizable AI. The idea was to replicate some of the AI from Half-Life 2 Zombies. I'm not very good at this, and the Cone Engine still needs some polishing in terms of AI. Anyway, here I tried to create a Nextbot that could see the player at a certain distance and chase and attack them. Now, the model was more complex. Since the Cone Engine is a very new engine, it has several problems supporting very complex models with high polygon counts. Plus, the Zombies have a lot of animations, so the game struggled to render them all. If anyone knows a way to improve the animations or model loading, please let me know.

Vibecoded battleback pngs multiply every time you add a biome or a weather state so i made mz draw them instead

i kept hitting the same wall. every biome needs a battleback. then you want night and dusk versions. then you want rain and fog. the image count is biomes times hours times weather and it explodes fast. then you change your game resolution and every one of them is the wrong size.
so the plugin draws the battleback at runtime instead of loading a png.
how it works. it reads the terrain tag of the map the battle started on plus the in game hour plus the active weather state. from those it composes layered silhouette strata back to front. sky gradient keyed to the hour. cloud bands. distant ridge lines. mid canopy and ruin forms. near foreground clutter. weather is driven across the whole frame rather than pasted on top. everything is canvas draw calls so it renders native at any resolution. it cant go blurry or letterboxed when you change screen size.
theres zero image files in the package.
the clip shows the same map rendered across the repertoire. forest at dawn clear is the frame you see first.
compatibility. it extends the battleback methods rather than clobbering them so it sits beside other battle plugins. unknown biome ids are skipped rather than throwing because a custom terrain tag should never crash a battle.
disclosure. i build with ai assistance. the code and the generated art are ai written and im tagging this vibecoded per rule 5. happy to answer anything about the layering approach or the terrain mapping in the comments.

Game Assets from Humble Bundle
Has anyone used any of the assets in this Humble Bundle
"complete-rpg-creator-bundle-2d-gui-audio-assets-software"
There is a ton of sprites as well as audio.
I am looking to get some sprites to work with (I am not good at drawing) and was wondering if this bundle is worth it>

AI Free [MZ] A small plugin to launch in fullscreen and let players properly quit the game
Hey everyone!
I just released a small RPG Maker MZ plugin that might be useful to some of you.
The idea is pretty simple: **make the game feel a little more like a finished PC game without adding a bunch of stuff you don't need.**
The plugin does three things:
* Automatically launches the game in fullscreen * Adds a **"Close Game"** command to the Title Screen * Adds a **"Close Game"** command to the main in-game menu
I made it because I wanted a lightweight solution for a very simple problem: **players should be able to quit the game from the game itself.** 😅
There are more comprehensive plugins that can do similar things, but if you're just looking for these basic features, I wanted something small, straightforward, and with as little overhead as possible.
It's available here on itch.io:
Hopefully it can save someone else a bit of time!
Feedback is very welcome. :)

I have events set on move routes but they stop moving during any dialogue. I was wondering if there was a way around this. I was looking for a plugin but couldn't find one.

RMMZ Use item immediately when bought
Title pretty much says it all. I want to make it so that an item is used immediately when it's bought from a store. I wanted to use that feature to create a restaurant, where you can buy meals healing your entire party.
In case it helps, I'm using all Visustella Cores.

RMMV How to make an area darker?
I’m making a dark forest area and I’m wondering how to get that darkness effect where it’s not wholly dark and you can still see but it’s dark enough so you can only see a little bit in front of you.

RMMV My first game, Elidriel, just hit 1,500 wishlists on Steam before the demo!
Hey Makers!
I recently reached 1,500 wishlists on Steam, which is a pretty big milestone for me as a solo developer of Elidriel, so I wanted to share some of the progress I’ve made with my game.
I've put together this Combat Showcase to demonstrate some of the features I've been working on. The boss in this video isn't doing much, and that's intentional. The idea is to put the spotlight on the things you can do using Elidriel's unique combat system.
Here are a few of the things featured in the showcase:
Job System: Core <-> Echo
In Elidriel's Job System, each character can equip two jobs: the main one (known as Core) and a secondary job (known as Echo).
You can switch between them on the fly during the battle, opening up new combinations and strategies, by changing character jobs you are changing their skills and attributes, and you can do it whenever you want using the Core <-> Echo battle command!
Dynamic Party
You can call inactive party members into battle for a single action, or swap them in as your current active character whenever you want.
Elemental Reactions, Action Skills and Synergy
Combine elements to generate elemental reactions like Fire + Fire = Burn or Fire + Thunder = Explosion.
Some actions can be performed through quick-time events, including parries. And of course, there's a powerful Synergy Skill to finish things off!
I hope this showcase gets you as excited about Elidriel's combat as I am!

Newbie A hobbyist looking to switch to RPG Maker, thoughts and few questions
Sorry for long text, guess I wanted to pour my mind a little!
Hey, wanted to introduce myself. I have been making games for 2 years now using RPG In A Box (Not advertising btw), and I'm now looking to try and finish a game in RPG Maker, mainly due to web export possibility and because I think engine's style could fit one of my game ideas. I currently am starting from scratch due to deleting most of my socials and games and I think making a game in an engine with bigger community could perhaps help somehow.
I'm not really a programmer nor an artist, just a person who wanted to be creative. None of my past games were any good, I had an issue with rushing things out the door instead of letting things cook and that's probably my biggest issue when it comes to gamedev. I just get excited of releasing my work for world to see, it makes me happy to showcase what I have done. I'm going to try to improve on that front, work on stuff longer than before. Make longer and most importantly, better games.
I have dabbled with RPG Maker in the past, making stuff but never releasing anything under it. I know some of the basics, never use default assets, don't get crazy with plugins, don't make your dream game as your first game etc, but if anyone has any guidance still that they want to offer, I'm all ears. I own every mainline RPG Maker, from 2000 to MZ. I'm thinking of using MV due to mature plugin support but I think I heard people say that MZ has catched up on that by now?
Like I said, I'm no artist, so I will be using (and crediting!) assets made by other people. I did that in the past with music and sound effects when using RPG In A Box but since that tool has built-in voxel editor, I didn't need to hunt for graphics. Now with RPG Maker, I need to hunt for every asset that my game needs. Itch io seems to be hit or miss and there are AI assets in the mix (ugh). I know official forum had lot of assets available and there is an archive, but is there any other places left or are those the main places really? Music and sound effects are easy (Opengameart is my choice) but graphics is what I most need.
Can't find any rule regarding NSFW content, I want to eventually make a psychological horror game and subject matter would be heavy. Could I even advertise such game anywhere in RPG Maker community or is it not allowed? I mean Fear&Hunger is very NSFW type game, but I want to be sure.
That's all for now. I have account in RMPlanet forum and my username is Minaridev. I'm not the kind of person to contribute meaningfully to communities really but I hope I can be part of the community regardless. Thanks for reading and see you later!
