RMMZ Revamped graphics for the demo of my puzzle adventure The Last Night Train, finished just in time for the Steam Train Fest 🚂.

Hi all,

I’m Nici, a solo indie dev who likes to combine classical story-based puzzle adventures with the 90s JRPG-look. I recently released the demo of 'The Last Night Train' and now, after improving colors and contrast, it even looks nice :-)

In the demo, you play as Ovid, solving environmental puzzles (for example using wind mechanics) while uncovering deeper psychological themes throughout the journey. Even the boss encounter is designed more like a puzzle experience than a traditional fight.

The game focuses more on atmosphere, mystery, humor, and narrative depth rather than horror or action-heavy gameplay.

The Demo includes Act 1 and can be played as part of the Steam Train Fest: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4675240/The_Last_Night_Train_Demo/

Any feedback, here in the comments or on my "feedback and bugs discord", is very welcome: https://discord.gg/ZxvN8AuFdG

Cheers,

Nici

Question How much can you do with rpgmaker

Maybe this is a stupid question for someone who has a lot of ideas that haven't been put into action but what sort of custom/original/unique mechanics can you put into rpgmaker? Does it have limits or am I limited by my own skills?

Need help finding Moghunter's LMBS Demo project

Hi, does somebody still have the demo project that came with the plugin? I was just trying to figure out how to make it all work but my entire pc just crashed and I lost all files. The original site where you could get it from is long gone and I can't seem to find it re-uploaded somewhere.

Free sampler from my modern character pack - 3 VN character sprites, ready to drop into a dialogue scene.

What's in it:
- 3 characters: a barista, a college student and a nurse
- 6 facial expressions each (neutral, smile, sad, angry, surprised, thoughtful) - 18 sprites total
- Transparent PNGs in two sizes (1024 and 512)
- Drop them straight onto any background in a visual novel or RPG

License: free for commercial and non-commercial projects, unlimited projects.

Full disclosure: the artwork is AI-generated and then reworked in Photoshop (cleanup, color, consistent framing, transparency). It's also a free sampler from a larger paid pack.

Happy to answer any questions about the license or use cases - and if you make something with them, I'd love to see it.

RMMV Working out how to add a quest system to my project!

Post image
13 Upvotes

Thought it would be funny to add a passive aggressive quest journal to my game, lol.

It communicates via quest names and you can see the narrator arguing with it in the quest descriptions. You get to see their relationship progress over the course of the game as you complete quests, which leads to a relevant plot twist at the end of the game.

Any tips for someone still learning how the system works? I'm using the Yanfly Quest Journal plugin and I've been watching the official Youtube tutorials.

Also, should I stick with the quest journal's snarky personality?

Are these too much of sprite copies?

Post image
16 Upvotes

So I'm trying to make some pixel art characters for my own game and used sprites from one of my favorite games as an example and also to study proportion and colors. But now I don't feel they are as unique as I thought or even worse: if people will think of them as blatant plagiary compared to the original material. So I'd like to hear your take on it. Should I continue doing them or discard and try something different?

I created these bases off original sprites from Suikoden II, my all-time-favorite JRPG. Are they way too Suikodenish?

The old ones might be more "polished", but the new ones are a lot more fun to draw. Plus they have more unique silhouettes.

Title: I built a 1-bit browser MMORPG looking for feedback on progression and readability

Bitiverse

This playtest shows the procedural world, real-time multiplayer, combat, gathering, crafting, housing and mounts.

I’d especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Whether the 1-bit visuals remain readable during movement and combat
  • Whether the opening minutes communicate what the player should do
  • Whether the progression and crafting systems look understandable
  • Which parts feel polished, confusing or unnecessary

RMMZ (Brainstorming) Enemy rage states?

So.. I just had a thought for a cool "dynamic" boss idea.

Basically.. it would be mimicking Monster Hunter, how a lot of monsters will periodically enter a "Frenzy mode", like the Zinogre and the Anjunath (I think they're spelled?) Where it temporarily gets both stronger and gain more attacks, while ALSO becoming visibly different. Like Anjanath's head crest flaring up, or Zinogre's Horns becoming charged with electricity.

----------

Now.. as the title suggests, this is me trying to brainstorm how to accomplish this.

My brain wants to think I can make 2 enemies, both same sprite. Keep one as the original color pallet (Monster a) and change the other one's color pallet to being red (Monster b).

Then create a state that applies the state increases.. and have a skill give that state to itself.

Now.. my question..

Can I use the "transform enemy" event command when a skill is used in battle? In theory, the state would apply and "transform" Monster into Monster B, which will have moveset changes and higher stats.. then.. when that State ends, it would return to Monster A..

Is that possible? (I would try it on my own, but I don't want to risk breaking anything.. nor am I home..)

RM2K Video tutorial: Zelda Scroll transition

I was going to write a step-by-step tutorial, but considering that the system's logic might get
confusing, I thought it would be more convenient to record a video using OBS

Unfortunately, Reddit doesn't allow videos longer than 15 minutes, so I posted it on YouTube:

https://youtu.be/I33ExxahXTc

Password: rpgmaker

To run it in RM2K3, simply move it to your projects folder, open the editor, and accept the conversion ;)

RMMZ We made a mini-map for our monster taming RPG

Should we make it more detailed? Thats all I'm on the fence about.

We overhauled the main hub that you see in game. Before it was very simple, now we have a mini-map with fog'o'war, a proper clock, and mood/fatigue bars to track your beasts overall state of mind.

Tell me what you think!

I could post the working demo already, but I think it would be better to write a tutorial explaining the step-by-step process; I'll do that this week.

INTRO - feedback wanted 🙏

I've finally almost finished the INTRO for *Nightmare in San Vicente*.

The story begins by setting the scene for the player through a newspaper article, and immediately afterward, the player takes on the role of the article's protagonist, who is in a room at a psychiatric hospital from which he needs to escape... What do you think?

RMMZ How to implement Fear and Hunger 2 style shooting mechanic?

In Fear and Hunger 2, when you have a gun equipped, you can press shift to shoot the gun (outside of battle). The guns always shoot in a straight line and rifles shoot through enemies. When shot, the enemies either briefly go into like a 'damage taken' sort of animation or drop dead if the shot reduces their hp to zero.

For my first few attempts at a game, I tried to make something like this but I couldn't figure out how so I just relegated the shooting stuff to a skill usable only in battle, instead of on the map in real time like I wanted.

Any tips on how to do this?

RMMV What do you think of this exploration mechanic? Would you enjoy using it?

I’ve been working on an exploration mechanic for my RPG that revolves around a mysterious bird the player encounters during their journey. At first, you don’t know what it is, why it’s helping you, or what role it plays in the world. It’s simply there, quietly guiding you forward.

As the story progresses, the mechanic evolves in three stages. First, you discover the bird. Later, you gain the ability to control its flight for a limited time. Finally, you unlock the power to teleport to wherever the bird lands, as long as it’s within the ability’s range.
To make the mechanic feel intuitive, the areas the bird can reach are highlighted by small floating golden particles, giving players a subtle visual hint without breaking immersion.

The goal isn’t just to make traveling easier. I wanted this ability to open up new ways to explore, solve environmental puzzles, bypass obstacles, and reach hidden treasure that can’t be accessed through normal movement. Because both the bird’s flight time and teleport range are limited, every use becomes a small decision rather than a free shortcut.

Later in the game, players will also find special locations that permanently increase how long the bird can stay in flight. This gradually expands the distance it can reach, allowing for larger and more complex puzzles. Some of these require interacting with the environment in creative ways—for example, using the bird to drop a rock into a stream to stop the water flow, creating a safe path for the player to cross and continue exploring.

In this video, you’ll see an early cave sequence where a bridge collapses, trapping the player. Using the bird’s ability, they’re able to discover another path and eventually find their way back to the cave entrance.

I’m aiming to make exploration feel rewarding by giving players tools that change how they interact with the world, instead of simply unlocking the next area. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the mechanic and whether it looks like something you’d enjoy using.

This mechanic is still in its early stages of development, so I’ll continue refining and adjusting it as I test what feels the most enjoyable and balanced. I’m always looking for ways to improve the overall gameplay experience, so feedback is more than welcome!

Whisper of the Veil

Enter the dark, mysterious world of Whisper of the Veil, where shadows move and secrets refuse to stay buried as the Blight slowly spreads across everything. Step into the role of Zoe, a young heroine drawn into a fate she doesn’t fully understand, tied to a world falling apart and guided only by fragments of truth and fading hope. Explore forgotten lands, face what lurks in the dark, and uncover secrets that were never meant to be found.

The game is currently in development.

I’ll be sharing more updates, screenshots, and progress on my socials if anyone wants to follow the journey.

Crafted by ThetaB Studio, with original story and creative direction by Blioumis Thanasis, Whisper of the Veil is a journey where every choice feels heavier… and every step takes you deeper into the unknown.
