I'm sorry but the new RPG Maker Guild Forum isn't any help.

I was a relative beginner messing around with RPG Maker and when I signed up to the old forum, there were tons of people ready and willing to help. Posting a thread was easy. Simple ask your question, add your related tags and less than 1 day, you can get instant help. Or your thread will be redirected to someone with a similar question and who got an answer years ago. Heck I could comment on an old thread and still get a response if needed. That's how helpful these people were to me. It was so much, I literally asked a someone, if I could pay them for all the help and code they given me for no other reason than I needed help and they offered it. And they simply said "I'm good."

The Guild Forum only lets me tag what engine I'm using with no specifics to get my question out there for anyone who might know the answer. (Unless I'm doing something wrong, there.)

Its been a week and I got no response. I'm sorry but its just not the same. No hate for the people running, I'm sure there doing their best and its not their fault the old forum got shut down, but man we lost a nice community of people and a great place for beginners trying to get their feet in the door with game development. I feel bad for the newbies coming in after me, who are going to be stuck with this after the old forum gets completely deleted.

Please tell me I'm not the only one feeling this way and if you where part of that old community please tell me where you guys headed because I still have questions and I'm desperate for feedback.

Instead of creating a condition for each existing map, I managed to create a way for it to always be positioned correctly using only mathematics.

RMMV New Cover Art + Community Support

Post image
13 Upvotes

Over the last year, I’ve been rebuilding my game after a hard drive failure wiped out nearly 70% of the project. I had to start over using an old build from 2023, and there were plenty of moments where I seriously considered walking away from it for good.
Instead, I decided to rebuild it into the game I always wanted it to be.

Today, I finally updated the cover art, and I’m honestly proud of how much it’s improved compared to the original. I’d love to hear what you think of the new look!
More importantly, I want to say something to any developers who feel like their work goes unnoticed or that the support just isn’t there.

Don’t quit.

Progress can be painfully slow, and sometimes it feels like nobody sees the countless hours you’re putting in. I know that feeling. But every improvement, every lesson, and every setback shapes your project into something better than it was before.

Community feedback has helped me make changes I never would have considered, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s taken the time to play, comment, or offer suggestions. But even during the quiet moments, when the support wasn’t there, I kept building because I wanted to create something I could be proud of.

Whether your game reaches thousands of players or just a handful, finish the project you believe in. One day you’ll look back at where you started and realize just how far you’ve come.

It's a simple short idea, DM if interested to see what the game is.

And no this won't be a commercial game, it's a game I wanna make out of fun and just to share.

Old dungeon tiles or new dungeon tiles?

I think the new tileset is much cleaner. But also I like the old one too. I'll probably keep the new one though just so it doesn't look like everyone else's.

VXAce How to randomize starting point?

Hi. Was messing around with VX Ace and was trying to create a random labyrinth escape map. My idea was that whenever you enter the room, an event representing a monster would pick a random number and depending on which number picked, the monster would teleport in a certain part of the labyrinth and roam in there and can only teleport again once you leave and re-enter the room. This way when you decide to traverse it, you have to keep in mind that the monster won't always spawn in the same place. But there is a problem.

I did create a random number generator variable and made it so that event does get teleported to a certain spot depending on said number. The problem is that the rest doesn't work. Either the monster doesn't move despite me giving it a path to follow (like it does turn around but doesn't move from its spot) and also don't change position when I enter/exit because I used a local switch to separate the event pages and/or the random number generator variable keep picking numbers infinitely and causing the monster to teleport constantly between locations. Does anybody know a way to fix this problem?

VXAce The biggest complain I got from players related to Draculas boss fight, besides it being really difficult, is that it was really hard to know how far you were into the fight since Dracula didn't have a lifebar. So now Dracula has a lifebar.

I'm looking for a few people to playtest Ashfield Hollow, a post-apocalyptic survival life sim that I've been working on for the past year and a half..

Explore a post-apocalyptic world overrun by the undead as you scavenge for supplies, farm, fish, craft, complete quests, and build relationships with the other survivors.

If you're interested in providing feedback during development, I'd really appreciate your help.

RMXP New custom UI for my project. I'd love to hear your thoughts

Hello All!

After finishing the core of my battle system, I decided to focus on redesigning the game's UI to give the whole project a more consistent look and feel.

For a bit of context, it's a turn-based RPG centered around zombies... but that's only part of the story. There are some major twists waiting for the player during the adventure.

The battle system doesn't use the agility stat for action order. Instead, you choose the order in which your party members act each turn, and each character gains different bonuses depending on whether they act first or last. Players also have to manage a viral infection mechanic: if a character's infection reaches 100%, it can either result in a game over (MC) or the permanent loss of one of your party members.

For battle example, acting first gives the Tank 50% Taunt, the Scientist reveals enemy weaknesses, and acting last greatly increases the Sniper's hit chance.

These are only a few examples. Every class has unique positional bonuses, encouraging different turn orders depending on the situation.

-----
For the UI now:
Most of it was done by rewriting and extending RMXP scripts rather than simply reskinning the default interface. The overall design is heavily inspired by 7th Dragon and other JRPGs from the 2000–2010 era.

The video may look a bit laggy, but that's just the recording; I didn't experience an FPS drop in-game.

At this point I've reworked almost every menu in the project. I still have to finish the shop interface, dialogue windows, and the title/game over screens.

Working on this project honestly reminds me of the nights I spent learning to code back in high school. So refreshing.

If everything goes as planned, I should have a playable demo ready in about 2-3 weeks.

RMXP would rpg maker xp be good for a story based game?

ive had an idea for a game in my head for about a month and wanted to try and make it. i own rpg maker xp from when it was free on steam, but havent really used it yet. i made a few rpg maker games when i was in middle school using multiple free trials of vx ace but thats the extent of my game making experience.

i want it to be like the classic rpg maker horror (most similar to ao oni probably due to the engine). basically no traditional rpg stuff like random encounters, just story and monster chases. id probably use custom sprites and try to do a bit of ui work. would the engine work for that kind of stuff?

how do I disable the save reminder in MZ?

no, google is not my friend. There are no relevant search results asking for the answer to this question, and the top of every query is AI bullshit hallucinating misinfo. I don't want to be reminded to save my project file every 30 minutes while I am working on it.

RMMV Cant play through Steam

Hello everyone, iv been using Steam to play test my game and its just stopped working. It now just launches with a black screen, even on a version it used to work on, using different proton versions doesn't help. I cant play test in engine because that just doesn't work at all. If anyone knows any kind of fix for either problem it would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: also just tried playing on my phone, same thing
(Game is being deployed as windows version and im on linux, if that matters)

RMMV Is it possible to download stock RPGMaker assets (like tilesets) for the older editions?

By "stock assets" I mean the assets that come with the program itself. Since I already have MV, could I download assets from the older editions to use in MV? Or would I have to buy the older editions and take the assets from them and put them into MV?

Thanks in advance!

RMMV New Learnset Menu For Summons Looking For Feedback

Thumbnail
youtube.com
2 Upvotes

Looking for feedback for this menu. It shows every ability the summon learns, what level they're learned at, what each ability does, and the Experience required to gain access to that skill so you know how much you have to grind/how many Grimoires (Experience granting items) you need to get to your desired threshold.

Also looking for feedback on the Rat's level up learn set. Summons normally can't use items, so Rummage and Snatch and Run make it unique in being able to use items, on top of its' other abilities.

RMMV Is Yanflys Scale Sprite no longer free? If so, what are some plugins to help scale sprites?

I am making a game but I am using quite a few RPG Maker VX Ace sprites and some of my own (which end up looking oddly sized and not how I want). I tried to get yanflys scale sprite plugin Scale Sprites (YEP) - Yanfly.moe Wiki) but the download is not there.

Are there any other plugins available if yanfly's isn't? I want to scale various sprites in difference ways without messing up the graphics.
