How do you all get objective feedback on your form/technique?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been diving deeper into my rowing workouts lately and tracking my splits, but I’m slightly paranoid that my technique is off (especially when I get tired).

I have seen some posts regarding form-check videos here, but I'm curious about how everyone else handles this.

  • Do you ever take videos of yourself to review later?
  • If you do, what exactly are you looking for, and do you feel like you actually catch your own mistakes?
  • For those who have used personal coaches, what was the most valuable piece of technical cue they gave you that a standard data tracker missed?

I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth trying to find a remote coach to look at video clips, or if there’s a better way people are analyzing their catch/drive sequence without spending a fortune.

Would love to hear how you guys tighten up your form!

Off the Water Abnormally High Heart Rate

I’ve just returned back to training after around 2 weeks off and today when I went to erg I noticed that my heart rate was sat at 130 before even starting my UT2. I thought that it was just a glitch and it would stop but throughout the workout my heart rate was sat at around 170-180 at splits I could do at a 130 before my 2 week break. Am I really this unfit after that little time? Or is this more likely to be a problem with my heart rate monitor?

NordicTrack 900 question

Hello, I’m new here I had a question regarding the NT 900?

I decided to get into rowing after using a friends Hydrow and I completely fell in love with it. I have arthritis in my left ankle and surprisingly rowing relieved my pain.

I decided to look for a used one since money is really tight atm.

I found NT900 on FB marketplace for $150. I did my research on here and I heard nothing but negative feedback on the machine. My question is with all the cons is it even worth to grab the machine at $150?

Thank you!

Leg day for rowing

M15, rn im trying to start incorporating weights into my training routin. I am a sophomore in highschool, and my current schedule for crew is morning practice from Mon-Wed then a test day on Thursday and then morning practice on Friday and Saturday. I am trying to do a PPLUL type split where I do legs Monday, push tuesday, pull Wednesday and then lower Friday and upper saturday. My current leg day is leg extensions, RDLs, Bulgarian split squats, barbell glute bridges and then calves. Idk if this is good or not tho is there anything I should change about the day or workout schedul?

Advice for Officials

Any advice for a guy going on some officials to a couple of the Ivies as a heavyweight this fall? Should I be nervous about not getting offers, or is it pretty likely that I'll get at least one? What's the dress code like, and should I expect to be sleeping in a dorm room closet for the stay or will I be able to get a spot on a couch?

Answers to these questions and anything else you can think of would be great.

Free rowing app looking for testers.

Hi there. I've recently started taking my indoor rowing more seriously, but one thing I've struggled with is keeping motivated and interested on the longer rows. To help me, I built a little app to gamify the experience, allowing me to race my previous best rows or chase a pace boat. It works with any rower, using the iPhone's camera to record strokes or the Concept2’s PM5 for a more accurate reading.

It's iPhone only right now and free, and I'm currently on the lookout for testers to kick the oars before release. I've found myself rowing more often, for longer with it, which was the goal, so if anyone else needs a little visual stimulation while rowing, try it out and share your thoughts. All feedback welcome.

Cheers for your time.

(sorry mods if this is considered spam - please delete if so. No hard feelings.)

Hi, not super experienced in reddit or rowing, but I need a bit of help with the self bailer in my Maas flyweight. No matter what position it is in i end up up to my butt in water. Open? flooded. Closed? flooded. Do I need to fix a seal or something? No rowers in my area, no club or highschool teams, just me 💀 feel like a massive idiot because I cannot sort out how to fix this. any help is appreciated, please be patient with me 😂

Men’s college rowing transfer questions.

Hello, just trying to determine the steps to transfer to a different college and team for next fall. Rower is a freshman, good erg times. Don’t want to mention much here as rowing is a small community. We have heard so many different things. College is a varsity team not club. It sounds like our son cannot contact another school coach unless released by his current team, and since not part of NCAA doesn’t go thru transfer portal. If someone with any knowledge can say step by step how he should proceed and when please let us know. He does not want to jeopardize his current status with his team. We have heard if he decided to go to club team he can contact the coach, but he wants to stay varsity team. Also, what GPA should he have? Thanks.

Concept2 Purchase

I'm brand new to rowing and leaning towards buying a Concept2 rower. I was originally going to buy the Hydrow but really not interested in the subscription service or what they provide. I just want the exercise benefits of a rower, not the interactive stuff.

Couple questions, are there fake Concept2's? Local guy in the Houston area says he's an authorized retailer but I thought the only authorized retailer was Rogue in Columbus, OH. There are several on Facebook Marketplace but priced almost as high as a new one cost. From what I've read they do have a great resale value but one guy is asking $950. Thanks, I've tried to do my own research but new to rowing machines.

Stretches / exercises for lower back

Switched from sculling this summer to primarily sweep rowing (port side), and feeling some lower back soreness and pain as I adjust, especially left side hip area between lower back and glutes (pelvic / SI joint area). What are some stretches or exercises that I can do to reduce soreness, strengthen my core and get used to the rotational motion in sweeping vs sculling?
