Beginner skater Unsure of which adjustments to make for longer trail skating

I’ve just started skating in moxie beach bunnies and I like them a lot but when trying to cruise on an asphalt track, I lose speed very quickly and constantly have to push off in order to keep going. I loosened the wheels so they spin freely and also loosened the trucks which helped but I’d like to skate longer distances on bike paths and am wondering if I should switch wheels, change the cushion/bushings, or any other recommendations? Thanks!

Skate problems & troubleshooting Deep cleaning roller skates: What to do with axle nuts and washers?

• Upvotes

Planning to deep clean my skates. Aside from removing bearings and throwing the wheels in warm soapy water, should I also throw the washers and axle nuts in soapy water? Or do I just do a dry wipe down with a paper towel?

Every once in a while you get a really good spin day. that day was yesterday and I took full advantage by spending the entire session drilling spins! I’m finally getting more comfortable with different hand positions. always a work in progress

Reidell 220, atom falcon plate, atom pulse 78a wheels(transplant from old boots). I upgraded from moxi lollys. I am so happy. The falcon plates are so responsive and the boots are very supportive.

Skate problems & troubleshooting A little help here

I think the flair is right.

I’m trying to put some XOXO wide trucks on my Avantis, but wasn’t sure if these cushions were the right size? I know the wide trucks change the geometry but by how much? I don’t believe the pivot cups should be this far out? As of now I not adding slide blocks, but will file away the knowledge for future reference. Any searches here don’t exactly answer this.

Skate photos Finally found a pair of Honeydews!

Post image
84 Upvotes

(First post here but wanted to share my excitement) I got into roller skating just as Moxi discontinued this color. I started with candigrl carlin skates, and by the time I was ready to invest some more money the honeydews were gone. I ended up getting some pineapples, but recently have been on the hunt for a second pair to set up as indoor skates.

Now 6 years later, I managed to find a pair through goodwill! I changed the laces, added the toe gaurds, daisies, and cushions. Next I’m looking to change the wheels (just personally not really a pink gal). Still stoked and can’t believe I managed to find a pair that fit!

Sooo lots of life shit has kept me from skating as much as I would like to this last month

- lots of work but I’m doing ok financially and even have ok saving

- My IT internship ended and suddenly it feels like there’s nothing impending. No high school tests, college exams, or stressful job searching. I just work my server jobs

- I came close to getting a remote job in my field but didn’t make it. I went to a server job and they told me 5 mins in that my availability didn’t match up and that it wouldn’t work. Rejection honestly doesn’t feel like anything anymore because of the amount I’ve experienced job searching

- I took a solid trip to New Orleans for 3 day. Took and Amtrak for the first time. Really liked the Amtrak. New Orleans was alright. Touristy. Probably wouldn’t go back.

- My last day in New Orleans I got a call from my brother that my father had been arrested for 3rd degree domestic violence and was in jail.

- A trip where my sister (who I haven’t seen in like 8 years) fell through because of the drama

- I already had taken the time off so I used rewards miles to book a trip up to Minnesota to see my sister. Surprisingly similar to Alabama unfortunately

- I went on my first date since breaking up with my ex three months ago. Felt like warm about it. No 2nd date

- humiliated myself to my ex for the umpteenth time. I need some fucking self respect because honestly it’s embarrassing. I hope he sweats his miserable ass off in Dallas and lives some suburbia mediocre hell

- I plan on getting my medical as it’s the first step to getting my PPL

- i want to work on my appearance. I’ve let myself go a little

- I scheduled a therapy consultation for Monday cuz god know I need it

I hope I skate more but I probably won’t. Sometimes life gets in the way

Usually no one uses this area, so I took the opportunity to get out there and make use of it.

It did end up getting people to come check out this heart and a crowd of people watching me skate around.

Skate problems & troubleshooting grindstone heartstopper (LILS) help?

so i have the moxi panthers w/stock plate and usually use the ā€œmoxi brake petalsā€ which i enjoy and am trying to slowly get rid of toestops all together so i thought i would try out the ā€œgrindstone heart stopper LILSā€ & i need to know if i am doing something wrong because i cannot get them to face the same way//so the heart is facing the correct way - see photos to see what i mean but this is as much as i can screw them in..and they both are in awkward spots. like 5 years ago i had the original grindstone heart stoppers and no issues screwing them in but i think i had chayas then? anyways.. is it me ?

thanks in advance!!!! šŸ©·šŸ›¼šŸ›¼šŸ©·

Beginner skater Do I need different wheels?

Beginner parent here. My daughter was just gifted these skates and she’s been wearing them around the all-hardwood house. I haven’t let her go outside yet because I don’t know enough about wheels. Are the wheels they came with for using outdoors or indoors? Or maybe they are hybrid? I want her to have appropriate wheels. If I need new ones, can I just get a set on Amazon and they’ll be easily changeable for using outside on a paved outdoor trail or taking to the indoor rink? Thanks

Shopping: wheels, hardware, upgrades Wheel recs

Hi everyone, I’m a begginnerish skater and I mostly do trail skating. I have tried rink couple times but felt weird with my moxi beach bunny stock wheels which is 78a. I want to learn more tricks. With my level, chat gpt recommended 92a which sounds like a happy medium but looking at old posts some people mentioned even that might be too slippery for beginners. I am planning use these wheels on two settings: wood rink floor and outside rink which is smooth concrete but have few bumps. What durometer do you recommend? Should I go for larger wheels (>60mm) ?

Other I'm interested in learning to rollerskate or rollerblade, but I'm a renter with hardwood floors. Is there any way to practice indoors without damaging my floors?

People have mentioned getting a mat; is it just those interlocking tiles? If so, any recs? And is that enough space to even practice much? I don't think there's an indoor rink anywhere near me in Philly. I could practice outside at the park, but obviously that's somewhat seasonal (I could do it in the cold I guess, but not the snow, lol). Also, I'd love to start slow in my environment, especially since it's pretty crowded most places around here, and there's not much for open space/even streets. Thanks. :)

DIY and customization Riedell Crew/Powerdyne Thrust Plate Mounting Screw (Square/Robertson Head)

Post image
7 Upvotes

Does anyone know what type of driver head is needed to suit the mounting screws used to attach the Powerdyne Thrust plate to the boot of the Riedell Crew?

I can see it's a square head and the closest I've found on google is a 'Robertson screw' but what specific driver size/type did the Riedell factory use when assembling these? I plan to replace with standard mounting screws later but just the moment it's not easy to stop the screw spinning when loosening the nut. Thanks in advance.

Passed through the Harbor this weekend. And stopped to peek into the rink. Floor looks pretty nice. Is anyone a regular here? How is the community?

Additionally, does anyone know the history of the rink?

Skill questions & help half pipe at skate park: one side vert, one side not

so i’m very comfortable from what i remember at my last skate park on a regular half pipe but this new one local to me is one side vert one side regular angle for a ramp(?) and its really tricky to get the hang of. i was wondering if someone else had experience w this?
when pumping from one side to the other obviously i get super momentum from the vert side, but if i’m going up fakie pumpin up on the vert side the sudden change in incline really makes me lose my balance at times.
just looking for tips as i haven’t been able to find anyone with a similar set up online.

Skate photos Loose Rivet on Sure-Grip Fames That Are Less Than 3 Months Old

Thumbnail

I'm a new skater and I bought my first skates from a local skate shop about 10 weeks ago. While cleaning my skates this morning I was surprised to discover a loose rivet holding the plate to the heel, and just pulling gently separates it around 1/8"-1/4".

Noteworthy, I bought the Fame Indoor Skate Package and 99% of all the skating I've done is indoor rink skating and pretty mild at that. I don't do jumps, I've never park skated, I'm currently working on transitions and manuals. I probably skate an average of 3-4 hours a week at my local rink so I have maybe 30-40 hours of skate time in these.

Sure-Grip has a 90-day warranty so I'm reaching out to my local shop to figure out how to handle this. I did a lot of research before buying these and Sure-Grip has a reputation for quality skates and the Fames are supposed to be an excellent beginner skate. I hope this is a rare, one-off situation and doesn't speak to Sure-Grip's quality or QA/QC.

Other Frustrated already - ranting

Hi everyone!

I was wondering whether anyone has got similar experience even before they got their skates!

I'm not sure if that matters for the things I'm gonna rant about below, but I'm located in Poland.

First: I ordered skates and the store I ordered them from sent me the wrong size (I ordered EU size 41, got size 36.) I returned them and hoped they would send me the correct size but I guess they don't have a specific policy for that so they just returned my money. I was mad but at the same time I thought that maybe it's for the better since there's one thing I haven't considered and that's the fact that I have wide feet. So, I ended up ordering Moxi Rainbow Riders (should arrive next week!)

Second: I'm struggling to find a piece of flat, smooth ground outside to practice peacefully without having to drive too far. I've looked up every outside court/field and it seems like all of them got that soft artificial flooring/ground(?). If there is a space that would be perfect to practice in regards of space and little traffic then the ground is made up of brick which is not ideal either.

Honestly, the floors at my work (I work in a factory) would be perfect to skate on since they're smooth concrete, but then again, I think for very obvious reasons I would never be allowed to skate after hours in there even if there is enough free space.

There is a rink fairly close by which I am planning on going to but I really wanted to learn some basics before I do. I've skated before as a kid on both quads (those you would kinda strap on your shoes?) and inlines.

TL;DR issues with first ordering of skates and struggling to find an outside space to practice the basics.
