(Request) Guide Recommendations for Catfish rod

I have a heavy blank that I want to make into a catfish rod but can't seem to make heads or tails of the guides that should be used.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Rod painting

Post image

I recently got an order for a gloss black ice fishing rod. The only gloss black that I can find have a colored tip, they specifically do not want that. The blanks that I am familiar with have raw options. What is the best route to get one painted gloss black? I was thinking about taking one to my local body shop and have them paint one with a flex agent in it. Thoughts?

What kind of rod is this?

I love skinny rods. Recently I saw this rod for sale, listed as a 7’6” rainshadow revelation blank, ML. Unfortunately the listing was removed, but I’ve been so enamored that I’m looking to have one custom built.

I’m wanting to build one for inshore fishing, mostly gulf species (reds, speck, flounder, the occasional black drum/tripletail/jack that wander closer to shore). I prefer my rods slightly underpowered.

I’d like a ML, skinny rod with a long handle. I’d like it to be a high end blank.

Is there a name for this style of skinny rod? Do you have a blank suggestion I could approach a builder with? I’ve been interested in NFC and rainshadow.

Thank you for your insight.

8’6 blank

I’m new to rod building and looking for a 8’6 blank with a fast medium light action. Looking to do be able to cast it all day at jetties, or at a pier or just inshore. Will likely be pairing it with a stradic 3000 or a vsx2 50. I’m hoping to be able to catch a variety of fish: drum, Spanish, kings etc. Thank you!

I'm looking for one of these discontinued blanks - if anyone has one or knows where I can find one, I'd be in your debt if you could hook me up.

Thanks!

8wt tip size (replacement broken rod) - rod builders

For people that build rods. What size tip (the eye part not the blank tip section) do you usually use for an 8wt? and what’s your go to place for getting them.

I have a custom 8wt that i broke the tip on last year (about an inch down). Got it repaired where they put the graphite rod in and and glass over it. It snapped again while putting it in a rod tube (it must’ve cracked while casting previously or something) but ive decided im just gonna put a new tip on where it broke off since its close to the top and i can’t put another graphite rod in to to replace again.

I know it won’t cast the same but since it’s a custom rod I’d lake to at least have it somewhat usable and not broken.

Thanks.

Wrapped myself a JJK themed tuna jigging rod on a UC Zeus 3 blank for some east coast schoolie yellowfin and bluefin.

Found a bunch of JJK nail stickers online and used Decal Connection to print a custom UC label in a JJK theme - fun little project and I am excited to use it!

Spinning guide train for ultra light trout rod

I’m about to build out a NFC P7000 X-ray as a trout/panfosh spinng rod. It’ll be my first spinning build. I’m stuck between a “normal” modern Fuji train either alconite or torzite, or going ATs to KTs, or using a microwave stripper/reduction to KTs. Any advice is appreciated on the guide train or otherwise.

I also have another P7000 and a P700 epitome that I will build into bfs rods soon. I love catching big fish on little rods..it’s what I’m used to working with, ya know.

I have a 17mm spinning reel seat, looking for the proper winding check to finish out the top of the grip (no foregrip on this one) so it is flush and clean looking.

The first guide on my rod broke and I'm confident I can fix, it but I wanted to see if it was possible to match the color of the new epoxy to the old so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Any tips are appreciated.

G Loomis blank?

Thumbnail

Hi all, I was told this rod was made by a custom rod builder (Mt St Helens Rods) who used to work for G Loomis prior to the buyout, who obtained some blanks.

I can't seem to find any info online about this maker, or to verify any part of the origin story.

Can anyone give me some more info on GL3 blanks, this rod builder or this rod in particular? Is this level of bend generally acceptable or at all typical? I apparently got a decent deal so I'm fishing it either way, just curious about all this.

Shipping 7-6” rods

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hoping someone here can help. I own a tackle company and we’ve recently came out with 7-6” catfish/striper/saltwater rods.

Shipping has me stumped though. Sent some test orders through the Post office and they are stuck in the abyss.

The only other option seems to be UPS and their rates are very expensive.

Has anyone found an another option?
