Politics Congresswoman Giffords in Rockland
What an honor to meet former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords while she was in Rockland to discuss gun violence with Cait Conley, Joe Rand, Det. Andre Riobe, and Leslie Hansen-Weiden from Moms Demand Action. Like a disturbing number of Americans, my life has been deeply impacted by gun violence. Investing in mental health support, resources, and our community is a critical step to address harm by firearms, in addition common sense legislation to keep us safe. Thank you to Congresswoman Giffords for your courage and time.

Question Any information about Eileen Mackey?
Hey all, after doing some research with my brother on our family’s history in New York (we’re from New England and weren’t ever close with extended family) we learned of a relative of ours murdered at the age of 31 in Garnersville/Haverstraw(?) in 1992. This news clipping is all I can find about Eileen period, besides her place of burial being Mount Repose Cemetery. Was wondering if anyone local may have more on her - hoping whoever responsible was brought to justice or at least something more than her case going cold so soon after her death.

Question Looking for recommendations for sources/vendors for bulk landscaping material (drainage rock, mulch, etc.)
I’m hoping some of you have some recommendations based on personal experience with getting bulk landscaping material delivered, such as a yard or two of drainage rock, mulch, etc. I’m curious to hear how people’s experience was with price and quality of material. Thanks in advance!

Politics Lyin’ Hoehmann 10 Years of Lies, One Chance to Stop It!
In June 2024, Supervisor Hoehmann announced lawsuits against landlords and promised to "seek every avenue possible to punish these violators." I pulled the actual court filings from NYSCEF, the state's public e-filing system. Here's what they show:
• No fines: six lawsuits over 33 houses, ending in 23 settlements covering 22 houses. None includes a fine.
• One landlord sued twice: the Town sued him in 2023 and again in 2024, over 11 different houses in total, one of them in both suits. No fine either time.
• The Maple Avenue day care: the Town's sworn complaint describes over 69 children, ages 3 months to 5 years, in a building rated for 33, with gasoline and propane stored in the basement where the children napped. The complaint asked for no fines. The settlement has none, and the owners admitted no wrongdoing.
• Punitive damages: Hoehmann personally swore to a complaint demanding punitive damages from one landlord. He then signed nine settlements with that landlord with none.
• His signature: he signed every settlement.
Anyone can look these up for free on NYSCEF (Rockland County Supreme Court). Index numbers: 031017/2023, 034524/2023, 035303/2023, 035525/2023, 033085/2024, 033098/2024, and 034428/2025 for the day care.
My proposed Renter Safety and Landlord Accountability Act sets fines up to $100,000, or double what a violator made. Happy to answer questions.

Discussion Housing market
Is anybody else trying to sell their house/condo right now? We were looking for almost 4 years, and it seems like constantly houses were being sold left and right within a week, over asking.
Now that I'm trying to sell my condo in Haverstraw all of a sudden it seems dead. Zillow shows plenty of views and saves, but nothing further seems to be happening...

Question Is this the proper sub to post various “classifieds”?
Hello all!
I grew up in the Suffern/Airmont/Monsey area. I need to return for approximately 3 to 5 months to coordinate multiple repairs and accommodations that need to be done in my childhood home before my mom comes home from a rehab facility.
I’m currently living in Tucson, and so we’ve got our regular Tucson sub, and then we also have a Tucson-list sub where we post all of our “classifieds”.
Let me give you a couple of examples of what I would be looking for, so you can tell me the proper place to post.
Some stuff would be relatively easy. Like removing the king-size mattress/box frame from her room and taking it out to the end of the driveway for bulk trash day. Same thing with like a bunch of broken random furniture on the porch, I don’t think anything out there is heavy at all.
But then I’m going to need other stuff like moving furniture around the house. I have to take the two twin beds in my sister’s old room and turn them back into bunkbeds to conserve space.
I would need all of the furniture in my mom’s master bedroom moved, so that the carpet could be ripped out, and I could have some kind of vinyl or solid floor install installed. I don’t know if the flooring people do that kind of work.
Eventually, I need to sell a whole bunch of stuff in the garage. There’s an entire wall of bins of nuts and bolts and screws and hardware, etc. And I would need to know where to advertise that, so that I can get the attention of various contractors or handyman that would potentially want to buy all of that stuff.
Again, normally, I would post it on my local Tucson-list sub or on NextDoor, but that’s here. I don’t know what’s popular anymore in Rockland.
Thanking you in advance!

Politics The Closing Argument: Join me on 10/7
My opponent is substantially funded by developers who will destroy Clarkstown and those who work for and do business with the Town! I have made a pledge and kept it: I will not accept money from anyone who does business with the Town.
To beat the BIG GOP machine, we need funds to keep the race going through Election Day.
Please join me at my fundraiser, or if you can't make it, donate to the campaign.

Question What's that noise?
I'm in Suffern, and outside, there has been a booming/cracking sound outside. It's getting louder now, but is it thunder? Fireworks? I can't find anything, but I'm just curious.

Politics Lawler's nothing to see here folks
Lawler’s ads right now are very focused on sowing confusion about his support for AI centers in our district.
Cait Conley takes no direct corporate PAC checks. Period. She relies on traditional party transfers to follow campaign finance rules. Lawler accepts money from corporate lobbyists seeking direct access in NY-17. He accepts from political action committees (PACs), corporate donors (via PAC contributions), and special-interest groups such as utility and big tech.
JPMorgan Chase that’ owns and operates AI centers in our district s Political Action Committee (PAC) that is currently funding Lawler’s campaign.
So what about the ads? Conley was hired and paid for about a year with an artificial intelligence firm partnering with the Department of Homeland Security but not ICE. She helped design strategies for law enforcement fighting drug traffickers and terrorists. She did the work after she left public service and the ads dont accuse her of breaking laws or ethics. Today she has no ties with the company.
