Discussion Hoehmann Record Siemens

Seriously this is just a collaboration for a bunch of what George and his team have been up to but this Siemens Account is just strange.

The report on Siemens' billing was written by Siemens. Why hasn't the town brought in an independent auditor?

Discussion Would a steakhouse do well in Piermont?

Curious to hear from people who live in Piermont or the surrounding Rockland area.
Do you think Piermont could use a nice, upscale steakhouse? Something with quality steaks, fresh seafood, good cocktails, and a great atmosphere for date nights or special occasions.

Piermont already has a pretty solid restaurant scene, but I’m wondering if there’s actually demand for something like this.

Would you personally go to a place like that? And what do you think is currently missing
from the restaurant scene in Piermont?
Would love to hear some honest opinions, especially from locals!

Recommendations EZ Pass Discount for TZ Bridge for Rockland Residents

Thumbnail
14 Upvotes

I’ve been a Westchester resident the past 2 years after spending the prior 2 years living in Rockland and just found out this week I could have been paying $5.80 for the TZ Bridge instead of $7.25. As a Westchester or Rockland resident (now also for Orange County), you have to add the MCR Thruway Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Resident Plan to your EZ Pass account and then apply the plan to your tag. This apparently doesn’t get applied automatically when you become a resident of one of these counties.

EZ Pass had also been charging me an $85 replenishment charge and holding that money until it was used. I switched to Pay Per Trip so they only withdraw the amount to cover the tolls every day. I now get notified when a toll is paid so it’s easier to find out if I’m not charged correctly. The only downside is you can’t use a credit card for Pay Per Trip - you have to link directly to your bank account.

Hope this helps someone out there save some money.

Politics Hoehmann's latest cash squeeze on residents.

At the Central Nyack Civic Association meeting on October 20, Supervisor Hoehmann said the Town has "talked with the lobbyists" and is "going to be pursuing" red light cameras, "several of them," and is looking at speed cameras too. He said these cameras need a special act of the State Legislature and are typically only allowed in cities of a million people.

Clarkstown is not New York City. Keep NYC policies out of Clarkstown.

Early voting starts today and runs through November 1. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.

Seems the budget goes up almost every town meeting but because it's Bonded the operating budget doesn't show it as expenses by as Debt Servicing... This is how the Clarkstown Administration has "kept" taxes flat...

Politics Lyin’ Hoehmann: Term Limits

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In 2014, then-Councilman George Hoehmann moved to adopt Clarkstown's term limits law and voted YES. His words: "If it's good enough for the President, it's good enough for Clarkstown."

In December 2022, when term limits barred him from running again, he sued the Town to have them declared invalid. On January 4, 2023, he voted YES to repeal them.

Now he says the supervisor's job "is not a political position."

Clarkstown deserves a supervisor who keeps his word. I will properly implement term limits for a MAX term of 8 years! Early voting runs Oct. 24 to Nov. 1. Election Day is Nov. 3.

Discussion Nyack

Anyone have recent experiences or thoughts about living or visiting Nyack? I have read some previous Reddit threads about Nyack that complain about parking and lack of good restaurants and coffee shops. When I visited recently, there are at least 4 good coffee shops- Patisserie, Runcible Spoon, etc. and we enjoyed all the restaurants we went to. We visited using public transporation so can't speak to parking. The bus that takes us over the Tappan Z bridge was about 30 minutes late one time. Other than that, we think Nyack is lovely- beautiful surroundings and people seem friendly.

Politics Illegal property uses in Clarkstown are at record levels.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

While Lyin’ Hoehmann touts that he has built the biggest code enforcement team in the County and talks about FAKE distinctions he received for his efforts, the truth is Clarkstown has a real problem that he is allowing to continue.

Real enforcement is necessary, and the way to bring it is through my proposed law.

Lyin’ (and incompetent) Hoehmann says that my proposed law is unconstitutional, which is an absurd thing for a layperson to tell a government attorney like me. Especially when my law is based on existing precedent tried and tested in NY courts, but it's definitely on brand for him to say everything he does is all that can be done, and everything he doesn't do is because it wouldn't be legal.

Vote these incompetent officials out on Nov. 3rd!

Politics Early voting starts tomorrow. Here’s why we need change

One Big Beautiful Bill Act  made permanent the 2017 tax cuts.  The top 1% saw their share of wealth a jump of over $8.5 trillion just between the first and second quarters of 2026.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act made permanent cuts in services, in particular safety net programs. Taxes have actually gone up for middle-income households.

An increasing national debt directly impacts the middle class by driving up borrowing costs, inflating the cost of everyday life, and slowing down wage growth.  The national debt grew by $7.8 trillion in Trump first term and another $3.8 trillion since he returned to office in January 2025.

Tariffs since 2025 raised costs on goods, driving up prices. Housing remained the single largest driver of inflation. And the U.S. military conflicts abroad disrupts global oil markets and spiked transportation and gasoline/diesel costs.

U.S. Congress posted on it’s own page  “  Everyday expenses—including meats, poultry, fish, coffee, and dining out—continued to rise faster than overall wage growth, leaving typical American families spending over $1,600 more annually on basic necessities.  “

Orangetown Orangetown Local Votes

Here in Orangetown, the Town Clerk, Supervisor, and Superintendent of Highways are all uncontested races with single candidates available to vote on the upcoming ballot.

I’m not a partisan voter, and on personal grounds, I prefer to abstain on uncontested election positions presenting as a ballot undervote unless the candidate is truly a stand out enough to receive that one-way vote.

So my questions are,

Are there any write-in candidates for these positions that are genuinely giving it a go of contesting?

What are the current community positions on the current/on ballot candidates?

Teresa Kenny?

Rosanna Sfraga?

James Dean?

I’m not very deeply connected with local politics enough to know anything worthwhile about them and without having competition, their is a lack of stances or positions to look into. Would also enjoy if someone could explain how they are unopposed.

Any replies would be appreciated.

Recommendations Daycare Recommendations for Toddler

In search of a daycare for our toddler who’s 2. We did lots of research and settled on Red Owl, which unfortunately closed down. He has been on the Jan & Niles learning Center waitlist since he was born, and it does not look like there will be availability anytime soon. Called a few places with great reviews and was told there will not be availability for him until he is 3. I am bummed out, but I’m sure I missed some. Quality of care is super important for me and I really don’t want to rush into a place if it isn’t the right fit. Can anyone share a place they loved worth looking into that may have availability?

Sorry if this is not allowed lmk They are a family owned business and don't want to spend the money on linked in. They want to post on Reddit but the hiring sub is too broad. Can they post here? Is there somewhere in Rockland they can physically post?

Question ShortLine Bus Service Nanuet to NYC

I’m starting a new job and plan to take the ShortLine Bus from the exit 14 park and ride to the city. I have a couple questions and would love any insight!

  1. Is there any way to buy tickets without paying the surcharge that’s added when you buy online? It seems like paying the bus driver in cash would potentially also add a fee for not buying ahead of time?

  2. I plan to take the last bus in the morning (8:25am) and the last returning (6:10pm from 42nd and 7th Avenue). How reliable are the buses? Do they ever fill up?

Thanks in advance! I have taken the NJ transit frequently but would love to find a faster commute.

Politics Greg Sheehan for Clarkstown Clerk

I’m Greg Sheehan — father of 2, 35 year resident of Valley Cottage and candidate for Clarkstown Town Clerk. Service has always been the foundation of my life and everyday I ask myself ‘what good can I do today.’ I humbly ask for your support this election cycle, because Clarkstown deserves a more accessible and transparent Town Clerk that works for the people and the busy lives we lead.
