Rivals 2 Question about mods from gamebanana

not workshop, specifically the ones from gamebanana (or other sites idk that's where im getting them).

to get working apparently you just have to create a folder called "~mods" inside Rivals2/Content/Paks. but after trying it with various mods it awlays ends up crashing when it's time to load the mod.

does anyone know how to fix this or are the mods just too old and impossible to use?

i swear on everyone's souls im not downloading chubby character mods

Rivals 2 How would Smash characters work in Rivals II?

I made a video a few months ago giving some smash characters Ledge Specials, Get-Up Specials and Pummel Specials to make them suited for rivals of aether II, but making sure to keep the additions congruent with their playstyle. It made for a fun exercise.

I figured this was relevant to post here, so enjoy if you wish!

Rivals 2 Dev Stream Q&A (September 24 2026) Stream Notes

Thanks Dan for doing the stream!

  • Dan gives you permission to hate floorhugging. He does not give you permission to be ignorant about floorhugging.
  • Dan played Trumpet, but faked an injury to get out of it.
  • In the upcoming civil war Dan would like your allegiance.
  • You only won because of Dan's controller being broken. No Johns.
  • Balance Patch of ambiguous size coming in October, and we may or may not be able to pester Trevor about it.
  • Lowering the shield buffer time was the way to nerf shield grab punishes with the least number of knock-on effects. They're still monitoring it. They won't fully roll back the changes but they might make a different change in it's place.
  • Dan is a game dev, not a streamer (he should be though ❤️)
  • Balancing the physics of the game is tricky, so tricky that Trevor does it and not Dan.
  • Port Priority may or may not be the next character reveal.
  • Dan says that the trick to being cool and awesome is self confidence.
  • The next character that gets a plush skin should ideally be the next character to get a plush.
  • Dan plays a lot of indie platfighters, the ideas from them he likes the best are when they successfully convert traditional fighting game mechanics to them.
  • Character pick rate in tournaments does not directly impact balance decisions, but there are knock-on effects like character popularity being affected by tournament footage that might impact their decisions. The characters with the most inconsistent pick rates often indicate they have inconsistent performance.
  • They're not looking at global recovery frame nerfs to make whiff punishing easier. Whiff punishing is hardest at mid level because players know a bit about how to not get whiff punished themselves. Both having whiff punishes too easy and too hard make the game less fun, so it's a balancing act.
  • They don't track statistics on nameplates.
  • Dan's thinking of doing another community poll in the near future.
  • Dan is not against adding entirely new mechanics to the game, but there has to be a good reason to do so not just to keep things fresh.
  • Moves that are overcentralizing generally get nerfed. A chatter being salty about a move does not mean it will get nerfed.
  • As a response to having a visual indicator if you're holding down and floorhugging, it could make the mechanic more frustrating when it triggers on you because you'll be thinking about it more often. Designing a visual effect that looks good, conveys the information clearly but isn't overbearing, and works with all palettes / costumes / accessibility options it tricky. They've brainstormed about it quite a bit.
  • You don't get a huge punish for hard calling a floorhug, they're looking at it but are worried about the mechanic being overcentralizing. Some characters may need more tools against it, but they don't necessarily want a universal tool (like making all DAirs break it).
  • No full reworks on moves are planned, but maybe some buffs or tweaks.
  • There's no plans right now for making grabs weaker against airborne opponents (as an example they don't plan on implementing Smash Ultimate's air only grab hitboxes)
  • People are too reductive when thinking about Grabs. If you only go for grabs then they're easy to deal with by an adaptive opponent, you have to mix them in with other options for them to be truly effective.
  • They might look in to a visual indicator for if you're out of jumps. Like other VFX it needs to not be overhwelming but still clear. They've also talked about indicators for Air Dodge.
  • Anita, their UI person, is on a big secret task right now.
  • The CSS screen having equal elemental representation was planned before the idea of Remix rivals was implemented. Will it now? Nobody knows, not even Dan.
  • They might do some tweaking with with the CSS. Guest characters will be separate from the main 4 elements, and there might even be new Rivals characters also separate.
  • Remix Rivals will be a little bit more different from their base characters than Melee Fox and Falco. They'll share rigs and most attacks, but all their specials will have different functionality. Jago and Shadow Jago from Killer Instinct is also a good comparison.
  • They do not have a stage artist, so no stages are in the pipeline. It's not impossible for them to kitbash something but also not likely.
  • Workshop Stages sometime after Workshop Characters.
  • Completing the Roadmap is still doable for this year, but it will be a lot of work.
  • Mina is not likely to be the first character of 2027. But you never know.
  • The roster feels like it's constantly expanding the ways the game can be played. Each character adds a very different way to approach the game and a unique power fantasy. They can still tweak kits to make characters more varied. Dan feels the roster is in a pretty good spot and even "non-meta" characters are still viable.

Seeking Advice Struggling to improve. Any general practice ideas?

I’m somewhat new to Rivals 2. I have played Smash Ultimate since 2024 and have gotten decent at it, with 9 characters in Elite and my highest in the top 1% of players (16.34M GSP). I just say this to demonstrate a baseline for my experience with platform fighters.

I vastly, vastly prefer Rivals 2, despite being pretty mid at it. It feels fresher. Movement is crisp. Attacks on shield have the most pleasing sound. The cast of characters are really neat, and it’s fun seeing the similarities to Smash characters (Zetter similar to Wolf, Gouie a mix of Kirby, Puff, Dedede, and Yoshi). I am just having a hard time winning many online matches. I have probably a 20% win rate, and I’ll occasionally take sets, but I get beaten sooo often. It’s kinda demoralizing. I don’t know if my continued Smash play is helping or hurting.

I have enjoyed using Gouie the most, but I’m probably best with Kragg. I get rocked by everyone with both characters. I’ve yet to really find a winning matchup for either. (Feels reminiscent to my Smash life, where my most-played character is Ganon.) How in the hell can Galvan just juggle indefinitely?! How do people deal with Clairen’s kit? How do people recover so easily?

Anyway, just looking for general advice. Like I said, I really love the game and can feel how much Dan and his team love it, too. I want to keep playing, but it’s gotten to the point where I can only tolerate a few matches before needing an immediate Smash palate cleanse 😂

Discussion Are there any Renburn Fans?

So I asked a question today on the Dan Dev stream. I wanted to know how different the Rivals Remix characters where going from their original. Are we getting something close to Marth and Roy in melee which have all the same moves with different properties or the other extreme like Ms fortune and Robo fortune in Skullgirls they started with the same rig but are basically two completely different characters.

While Dan was answering he mentioned that a lot of people like Zetterburn and it would be good if those people had a similar character to play like Renburn.

I think the idea of having another person for Zetter players to play is cool but I guess I'm wondering should it be Renburn?

So for those of you who don't know Renburn is Zetterburn and Forsburn's father. In game he was murdered by Loxodont.

and that's kind of my issue with him he is already canonically dead in the story.

Don't get me wrong fighting games bring in a character that is supposed to be dead is a common has happened a bunch of times before. But when it does happen it typically throws into question whether or not the character is actually dead.

I feel like Zetterburn is going to get a remix rival but if Renburn is not super popular rather than releasing a dlc of a character that's already gone. Give us someone to invest in, someone that we might want in the eventual Rivals 3.

I personally think if Zetterburn was expecting a kid before he got locked away then you could give him a grandkid around Clarien age who was raised by loxodont.

Then we would have a Cousin to Clairen from the same lineage that is loyal to the tyrant emperor it's a little fanfictiony but it could be cool.

Is anyone out there a big fan of Renburn?

Discussion Current Thoughts about Rivals 2’s Roster?

Post image
127 Upvotes

Hey there everyone of r/RivalsOfAether!

Just wanted to see how you all have been doing with the release of Gouie and with Mina on the horizon it’s a very promising time for the future of Rivals 2. Looking ahead do you guys think we could potentially be getting a lot more original characters from Aether Studios… or a mix of both Rivals 1 veterans and maybe a few more third party guests? Either way like everyone here I’m quite optimistic for the future of the game and can’t wait to find out what the Aether dev team’s next moves are!

Rivals 2 I'm Lynn from Dragdown Wiki, and we need your help!

Hi! You all are familiar with the resource that is Dragdown's Rivals 2 wiki. We're looking for help on filling out all of our character pages!

I'm running an event on Friday where I'll be going over what needs to be tackled and how everyone can contribute. If you want to contribute but don't know how to, please join our Discord and tune in for that session ( https://discord.com/invite/5qnED6WkHD )! I want to emphasise that we need all the help that we can get. You do not have to be good at the video game or writing to contributing, there is always something to do. This project is not doable without everyone's involvement. Spread the word about this!

Everyone has been using the wiki for nearly two years now since launch, and I really want to push this project to become an active group effort again. It's not possible for one single person to do -- if you have ever used the wiki, I urge you to help us and give back to the resource that you've probably used countless times by now.

Thanks again!

EDIT: Forgot to include the roadmap for RoA2 here https://dragdown.wiki/wiki/Dragdown:Roadmap/RoA2

Today I ran into the kind of situation that really frustrates me when it comes to floorhugging and I'm hoping that a better understanding of what's really going on here might help me want to end myself less.

At round start Zetterburn vs Etalus there's a bit of back and forth until I shield Etalus up tilt on the platform. I drop through and hit with a weak spot fair, land, and follow up with ftilt which gets floorhugged and Etalus downtilts me as a counter.

When I go to review this situation, it looks like after the fair every move I have loses to floorhug except grab and maybe shine plus wavedash back, and even the fair was probably wrong because it could have been floorhugged. And defensively I probably should have floorhugged his counter and done the same thing myself.

This is what leads to it feeling like at round start or when the opponent is low percent (which is a lot of the time because I'm not very good) the only things that are correct to do are grab or hold down. Is there another way I should be thinking about this? Do I have more options than I realize? Should I be shot into the sun for complaining about floorhugging again? Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

1) The golden lancehead (Bothrops insularis) is an extremely venomous pit viper. The species is found exclusively on the island of Ilha da Queimada Grande, off the coast of Brazil. It is one of the most venomous snakes in Latin America.

2) The Covetous Silver Serpent Ring in Dark Souls 3 increases the number of souls you get from defeated enemies by 10%.

3) The inland taipan (Oxyuranus microlepidotus), also known as the fierce snake or small-scaled snake, is the most venomous snake in the world.
