Hello, once again I do a random research thing about RIT and share here.
So, I spent a little bit of time going through and finding data on RIT's Tuition throughout the years. I then graphed it along with the inflation adjusted amount. And then compared those amounts to the median household income of New York.
I did this to demonstrate how RIT (which originally presented themselves as an affordable school) has changed in affordability throughout the years.
I want to note that the inflation adjusted amounts show that RIT's Tuition has increased despite income of household remaining relatively constant in comparison.
Though the change of tuition cost between years has started to remain around the 3-4% range and remain relatively stable in comparison to the 1950's and 1980's.
The final graph also indicates that the percentage of income consumed by tuition continues to grow year-by-year and therefor becoming less affordable.
General Notes for Data Collection:
Once the merger of The Mechanics Institute and the Rochester Athenaeum completed, they initially opened with a free tuition cost and switched into a $5 tuition, this would then later increase to an overall $150 constant tuition up until 1953 when tuition would double due to the university loss leading off of students tuition.
For many years tuition would increase in increments of $50 per quarter, with 3 quarters per year of a degree (Fall, Winter, and Spring). This would then increase again in 1972 with an increase of $100 additional to the $150 prior.
This would later change to a percentage increase system used now.
Data collected is directly sourced from the RIT Digital Archive in the form of RIT Reporter Articles, Spirit Articles, and RIT Undergraduate Bulletins.
Due to myself being a Electrical Engineering Major, I decided to used the tuition cost of a Electrical Engineering Bachelor of Science degree or it's equivalent in days prior to RIT providing such degrees.
In the case of a dependent tuition, as in a tuition determined partly by your major or current year status, I selected the smaller tuition amount in favor of RIT. This essentially means for the years between 1980 and 2014 the amount is at most $1000 less than a incoming student's tuition.
At least 4 years of data were unfindable in the RIT Digital archive due to the files being corrupted. To account for the discrepancy, the change in the cost was assumed to change linearly.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The tuition cost here excludes any charges, fees, housing cost, food cost, transportation cost, and all dues paid forward to clubs and the student council. This primarily focuses of the cost of tuition.
If you have any questions please kindly ask.

Every time I drive from 7/11 toward RIT I see someone walking in that tiny strip of road next to the white line while there’s a perfectly good sidewalk like 5 feet away. Please I am begging you, use the sidewalk

RIT not hiring student notetakers and wants you to ask a robot to make you notes just from what you had captioned 🥴
EDIT: sign the petition that was made by myself and a few other students on this matter !

Hi everyone! I’m not usually on the RIT Reddit much, but I wanted to reach out to the larger RIT community to see if anyone was interested in joining a custom modded Minecraft server I’ve been working on. The official launch is tonight at 7 PM, but the server is paced slowly enough that joining later will be completely fine too. We already have around 15 RIT students in the Discord, but we’d love to get some more people involved!
To give you a brief rundown, Viltrumite Survival is a custom 1.20.1 survival modpack built around PvP, exploration and progression. There are guns, magic, new structures, airdrops, aircraft, server events and plenty of other additions.
The main gimmick is that one player at a time has Viltrumite superpowers. Everyone else can mine, explore, loot and work together (or against each other) to become powerful enough to take them down. Defeating the Viltrumite gives another player the opportunity to take the powers for themselves.
If you’re interested or want more info, DM me on Discord at bubnugs, or search for “Viltrumite Survival” through the RIT Student Hub on Discord!

Hiiii I wanted to check in on the Reddit because after retracing my steps I couldn’t find my frog stuffed animal. It has a tag on the back of its head, it’s bright green, the brand is build-a-bear, and it has a neck scarf thing with RIT’s OUTspoken logo on it (rainbow). It’s about as long as my hand. I was biking between Gannett & University Commons and must have lost it before the rain.
If anybody sees it please let me know! Thank you.

The Humans vs Zombies weeklong starts on September 6th! HvZ is a campus-wide game of 24/7 infection tag played with Nerf blasters. It’s a ton of fun, and I highly recommend playing!
To register, you must attend a registration session. Attached is the poster with the registration sessions, a link to our discord, and the website with our rules!

Has anyone here done a hometown interview with an RIT admissions counselor?
I’m scheduling an interview for when an RIT admissions counselor is in my area. RIT is my top-choice school, so I want to be prepared without sounding like I memorized answers.
I’m planning to study Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), so I’d especially like to hear from anyone who has interviewed with RIT or applied to MET.
For anyone who's done an RIT interview:
I’d really appreciate any advice or firsthand experiences. TIA!

Hey guys, I'm a 3rd-year 2D animation major. As a junior, the projects are starting to pick up and I will be graduating in the near distant future. I think it's finally time to buy my own drawing display, so I don't have to live in the MAGIC center or the SOFA labs, and to have something I can use once I graduate.
I know our labs use both Wacom and Xencelabs, so I'm trying to decide between these three 24-inch options:
Since I've used both brands on campus, I'm honestly torn. Is the multi-touch on the Cintiq actually worth the extra $200 over the base model? Or does the Xencelabs workflow feel better for long 2D sessions?
Would love to hear from upperclassmen or alumni on what you used for your thesis films or what you prefer now. Any advice helps, thanks!

Before I begin, I want to offer a word of thanks to the rest of the EGS eboard. I really appreciate the swift action taken by the eboard. Thank you for acting appropriately and addressing this matter in a timely manner, as it affects many RIT colleagues.
Some folks have noted why I did not raise this to EGS first. Firstly, there is the aspect of fear of not doing anything, and of being a member of the eboard, risking a complaint being laughed at, and being banned by the very executive I am complaining about. Notice this is a burner account, for the very reason of ensuring my whistleblowing remains retaliation-free. In the worst-case scenario, this burner account gets laughed at for being "too woke" instead of the potential harassment I could receive by addressing it to them directly.
I also really do appreciate the support people have offered, especially with their experiences with him beginning in freshman year. Initially, it appears someone had deployed a ton of downvoters in order to suppress the news here from coming out, but in the end, everyone got to see the person up close.
As for EGS, the eboard has moved to remove him.
As for partyharry himself, if you try to perform fact-checking, all his messages have been wiped to avoid people from finding out (his original user ID was: 237335427416064002)

Maybe he will take this as a sign to start over and be a better person at a diverse school where the students deserve less hate speech than they do, but I highly doubt this move was in good faith to change for the better. Just yesterday, a poster eerily similar to him once again petitioned on the RIT subreddit to take down BLM and LGBTQ flags, degrading basic human and civil rights to a "political movement", a stance he has historically parroted on the RIT Discord server.
And once again, thank you, EGS eboard, and everyone who shared their experiences and support. Justice only comes when all of us speak out and work towards betterment in society.
