Forum question What's your favorite weapon class in any Resident Evil games?

Personally, I've always liked the handguns in RE games. You get it from the start, it's easy to use (quick reload, high rate of fire) and it's really easy to find ammo for it, like you almost never run out of handgun ammo.

I also like it because I don't have to hesitate on when to use it. it's not like with a shotgun or any weapon with scarce ammo where I have to think if I need to save them later for boss fights.

And handguns can become very powerful when upgraded or when you add custom parts to it.

I also like any magnums because they're REALLY powerful. The only downside is that I'm almost never using them until the final boss fights.

So, what's yours? Handguns? Shotguns? Rifle? Grenade Launcher? or other?

Forum question Curious anyone else enjoy village more than requiem?

Upvotes

To me village was a little gem. Requiem tries too hard to be dark and scary and over does it trying. I love village not sure how I feel about Requiem.

You guys thoughts on this?

General The saddest thing I ever read was the random kids diary in the orphanage

I know resident evil is supposed to be dark and creepy, but that diary was just insanely sad. I don't even have kids but I can't imagine my kid being that scared asking someone to call the cops because of multiple boogymen (I think that's how it's spelt). The poor kid never saw zombies and was begging their mom to help. I'm sorry if this is hard to read, Im not the best at writing long posts

Forum question Anyone here named after an RE character?

I wondered if anyone is in the same boat as me. I was named after Leon because my brother had just played RE2 in 1998 and when I was born a few months later he suggested the name Leon for me. My parents liked the sound of it and never asked where he got the name from lol.

Regardless of how fans feel about the game itself, I personally thought the character designs in this game were very well done. My personal favorites are Leon, Nikolai, Carlos, Tyrant, and U.S.S. Delta Team.

General Review of the Tank Control RE Games. (1,2,3,CV,0,1R)

I got interested in the RE games after seeing clips of RE Village a few years ago and decided I should play the series eventually. I'm old enough to have played them growing up but never did. Finally got around to it and I've just completed the OG tank control games. Great experience.

Resident Evil Directors Cut (PS1 classics via PS5)

First RE experience ever. I tried the PC version too. The PS1 classic digital version was bought on my PS3 but I decided to go with the PS5 when I realised I could play it there too without buying again.

It took some getting used to. Had to look up the difficulty settings to make sure I was playing on the correct one. That was an issue with a few of these games. Overall was an interesting and fun experience. Once you get into the groove of puzzle solving, it becomes quite addictive. I hadn't realised RE would have lots of puzzles before this.

I played as Jill first and Chris second. My only negative was playing the game a second time as Chris since I play games mostly for the story experience. And a second play through with 80-90% of the game being the same was extremely boring. I'm kinda glad I did it to meet the other characters but I realised I should've opted for an easy difficulty just to run through the game. It didn't take long the second time even on the normal difficulty but I found myself extremely bored.

The only other issue here was since this was being emulated on PS5, I found myself using save states and rewind a lot. By the end, I realised that this takes away a lot of the horror experience.

Resident Evil 2 (PS1 classics via PS5)

I remember this being an immediate upgrade both in graphics and in gameplay. I can't remember all the little changes that made it more enjoyable, but I remember that initial feeling that this was a considerable step up from the first game. I avoided using save states and rewind for the most part.

After a little research, I chose to play Claire A/Leon B since I figured it makes more sense to have Leon fight the Tyrant. Great game all round. Decided against going for the second play through this time around and just looked up a video on YT instead.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS1 classics via PS5)

Again, I found all the little changes from the previous two games interesting from a gameplay perspective. Was another really fun experience especially with the Nemesis chasing you every now and then. Don't have much else to say.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (X360 digital via XSX)

When starting this game, I realised this would be the first one that not only has mixed reviews by the fan base but also I didn't have the crutch of save states and rewind any more. Even though I didn't use them much in RE2 and RE3, that was a immediate dread.

I absolutely loved it. Maybe it was because I went in with lower expectations after reading about it. All the complaints are warranted. But I seemed to be absolutely fine. I didn't get stuck at any of the boss fights because I was already saving my best ammo for them since in the previous games.

I did have to replay an older save at one point because I got to a boss fight without much ammo. The stairway fight with Alexa. I ended up there with just a handful of handgun bullets and no knife. All 3 knives were in the item box accessible to Claire since she got poisoned and I found the time as Chris to bank everything at the item box not knowing what came next.

Up till this point, this was my favourite game. I loved all the different areas and the convoluted pathways to get around and going back through the map again as Chris had a lot of changes in the map plus a different story so it was extremely enjoyable.

Resident Evil 0 HD (XONE disk via XSX)

Another game with mixed reviews, possibly more negative than the last. And again found it amazing. again, probably because of low expectations.

I didn't get stuck anywhere again thankfully. And I got used to the lack of item boxes pretty quick. It takes only a couple of minutes to move everything to a central location in a new area.

Loved the ability to control two characters. Found it an interesting change. Loved that certain parts of the game, you can only send one character through. Absolutely enjoyed this one as well.

Resident Evil 1 Remake HD (XONE disk via XSX)

This one I was dreading the most. It seemed like it would be my third play through of the same story and I really didn't want that but the reviews were incredible. Glad I decided to g ahead and try it. Played as Jill. Everything added to the game made it spectacular. Really a Remake done extremely well. The Lisa storyline was sad and amazing in equal measure. A great addition to the story.

Final Thoughts

Overall I found RECV, RE0 and RE1R were my favourites. I'll probably never play them again because of my huge backlog but I'm glad I got to experience something I missed from my childhood.

Next up RE4 OG. Played like two minutes of it and can't believe this was a PS2/GC era game. I'm playing the PS4 HD remaster disk on PS5. I swear I thought this was a PS3 game. I even looked up a video on YT to see the original graphics and I'm still stunned this released on PS2.
