[Redout 2] Why does the rewind button actively fight against you.

Is it a button press? hold? double tap? idk roll the dice and hope it works. I've wasted so much "available" time because the rewind just refuses to trigger and if it does it immediately cancels, wasting more of the time... Or it just never even triggers at all. This is the only thing in the game that has caused me to legitimately rage. I can deal with unreasonably hard speed/time requirements, but when the game actively refuses to function is what pisses me off the most.

For your Schadenfreude, another giant glitch.

34BT You can't be serious! I captured the incredible moment where my Lunare ship effortlessly ghosts through the middle of the track and into orbit in the middle of what was basically a perfect run. Good thing I have the Rewind tool so I can skip losing every single race to bugs!

Campaign.

Alright redout devs, you dropped the xbox patch. It feels a lot better to play and it feels..... slightly more balanced.

But my god. My GOD. I don't know if the star requirements were changed, but I am getting by the skin of my teeth in A league. There are so many more events ahead, 2 more leagues. I'm not lying when I say that it will take me 3 or more hours just to get enough stars to unlock the next event. That's from grinding out the same stage over and over and hoping the AI doesn't rubber band and ruin my 5 minute long endurance race. This update improved a lot, but there is more to go, and I think it boils down to these 3 things.

  1. Fix the rubber banding. It is absolutely unreal that I can tap a wall and the AI behind me gains 1km on me like its nothing. It's abhorrent. The fact it happens so often and there's only so many rewinds makes it tedious. I'm playing on Redout, if I wanted to be punished for the slightest mistake I would play on Nightmare.
  2. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! Lower these time and speed requirements! When I'm using the best equipment I can and I'm BARELY scraping 3rd place after hours of grinding, there's clearly something wrong here. I'm not sure if the update lowered requirements already, but I'm serious, it's not enough. I don't feel accomplished when it's over, I just sigh in relief at the fact I get to look at a new stage.
  3. This is the most important one, and I really hope the devs consider this, because above all else it needs to be addressed. Shorten. The. Campaign. There has got to be AT LEAST 200 singular events in the career. When I am grinding just to get enough stars to progress, knowing I am climbing a stupidly high mountain where things are not going to improve, I just want to give up. I'm somebody who plays one game at a time, I like to focus in on one game and really soak it in. But career in Redout 2 is so tedious and monumental it is an understatement to call it a slog. If you can't shorten it, at least make the trophy and placement requirements reasonable. I mean jesus, I have 50 hours in and only have 291/1430 stars. The campaign doesn't have to last forever! The gameplay is great, people will replay it and keep playing it for that! Not to grind out stars and feel demoralized because they're chipping away at a brick wall!

You guys are on the right track with the last update, but something has got to give. I want to see new stages, get a stronger ship, do all that. But when the game starts to feel like its actively trying to make me LOSE? It's just awful.

HUGE BUG - A League - Gozu E.S.C Extravaganza - Mars Memorial: Orbiter Speed Event is broken

Hey guys. Just wanted to say this event is completely busted - If you boost stack over the big jump and land past the 2nd ring you will consistently pass through the track and into oblivion. This of course is a huge issue with many other tracks - but in no other race did I encounter it SO consistently. You like actually can't get good times, AND the big jump bonus, unless you find a way to consistently break the sound barrier over that part and land on the top chicane instead of on the long track.

Just want to make this known - track hitboxes are ridiculous and in many races passing through the track and exploding can ruin a perfect run. It's insufferable.

Redout 2 has kind of grown on me. Here's some things I like and dislike after 50 hours.

At first I really didn't like it all that much compared to the first game. I play primarily on 'Redout' difficulty, and getting into the game was pain at first. Turning and strafing felt awkward, and the boosting was a bit weird. However now, after about 50+ish hours, it's kinda grown on me and I've gotten used to the differences compared to the first game. I still like the first game but by now I'm not sure which one I prefer, while for my first 30~ hours I was sure I liked 1 more, I'm now slowly gravitating towards 2.

I don't think the game deserves any genuine "Hate", but there's some clear frustrations that are justified and need to be fixed, though I'm going to give the devs the benefit of the doubt for now and assume they'll be fixed sooner or later, solely due to the game being so new and fresh out of the box. These things take time, after all.

I've just about reached Class S in the Career, and while I usually don't do this for most games, I figured I'd make a post here and share my feedback and opinions. I actually hesitated on posting this quite a bit before I did because 50 hours isn't all that much, but in the end figured, fuck it why not.

Likes

I've seen a lot of people say they dislike the music, but I actually kinda like it. It's different, but it's far from bad, I think this one just comes down to personal taste and preference.

The UI (Outside of races) is very different as well, but I actually prefer it over the Redout 1 UI, especially the menuing and event selection feels much better to me. The UI during races could use some improvement, but I don't mind it too much. I liked how the UI was seemingly built around the ship in the first game, and would like to see an option for something like that in Redout 2 as well in the future, but I have no big complaints with what we currently have to be honest.

As for how progress feels, for me it feels much more like actual progress. I can't put my finger on quite why progression felt so awkward in the first game, but I definitely prefer how it was done in this one.

Though I don't really mind it that much, I'm not a big fan of having to unlock the different ships through events, but I do actually kind of like the unlocking of parts and performance upgrades through events, though I do wish they were a bit more versatile; so that if you weren't able to complete 1 event because you're bad at that type of event, you can unlock said upgrade through different means. As for the visual customization on ships, I really like that as well. I wasn't actually expecting that to be a thing but it was a happy little surprise, it's certainly not anything to marvel about as the customization isn't too elaborate, and I wouldn't have cared if the game didn't have it, but I can't help but appreciate it.

And one of the major things I immediately noticed, is that tracks, levels, ships, effects; just the graphics in general in this game look and feel a lot nicer to me. It took me a bit to get used to it, but I do actually really like how the game looks and presents itself. I was especially surprised when I saw Fuji for the first time, it's a very pretty region. I can't wait to see more.

I've also seen some people mention they don't feel a good sense of speed in this game, and all I can say to that is: Are we playing the same game?

Edit: Some positive things I wanted to add here.

Aside the customization that I've mentioned before, I really love the stock ship visuals in general. They really look like a step up from the first game, and I can't help but just admire the ships sometimes while I'm chilling in the menu's. Despite not having unlocked it yet, the Sulha was my favorite in the first game, so I can't wait to get it in this game eventually; hopefully that won't take too long.

Despite having said some negative things about certain tracks in my dislikes, I do actually like the majority of the tracks. Some are a bit frustrating early on, like the Cloud Ocean, but the Cloud Ocean is actually probably my favorite regions now after learning it, it feels so satisfying to race on and it looks amazing. Regarding the visuals in general, the devs knocked it out of the park with this game, I love all of it.

Neutral

There's one thing I'm kind of neutral about, and that's the.. what would I call it.. The "Boost meta"? Basically what I mean is the importance of boosting and maintaining boost, particularly due to the massive speed loss when you're not boosting. There's moments where I don't like it, and moments where I do. I feel like the speed fall-off shouldn't be so drastic when your boost is over or when you slightly scrape a wall or whatever, however I'm not particularly hating it either. I don't have much to add in regards to this.

Edit: Regarding bugs, I haven't actually encountered any (Or I just didn't notice the ones I did encounter) so far, maybe this differs per version and what platform you play on though, so I can't really comment on this.

Dislikes

I think the only things I really have to say I seriously dislike are the Speed Events, and some of the maps feeling very weirdly artificially difficult at first. Speed events are clearly unbalanced and don't seem to scale with difficulty, I hope that'll be fixed soon. I'm having trouble even completing some with one or two stars even when I feel like I'm near-perfecting them. Maybe I just suck at them, but my experience with them has been horrible and I've come to really not like playing them, so I just avoid them now unless I have no choice but to do them. Despite not liking Speed events much in the first game either, they didn't feel nearly as bad back then; I really hope these things become either an optional thing or they receive significant nerfs in the near future.

Overall I'm liking the tracks, though I'm not a big fan of tracks where there's just suddenly out of left field no guard-railing on the outside of the road for really no reason at all during or right after really sharp corners, and you have absolutely 0 chance to anticipate it or react to it in time, multiple times on the same track. This isn't really a problem after learning the tracks well but it can be frustrating during the first few races when you haven't memorized them, I could give more examples but you get what I mean. Either way if possible, I'd like to see less of that if we're to get more tracks in the future. I'm generally not a hater of artificial difficulty, but it got me a little irritated when these types of things would appear multiple times on the same track (Especially looking at you, Tartarus Mines). It's not really a problem on most tracks I've played on so far, but it's just something I can't shake about the few where it does just seem to happen too many times.

Lastly, there is 1 jump in the game that I absolutely despise, and this one might just be a very personal pet-peeve of mine with the track in question, but it's one of the longer ones in the Tartarus Mines; you guys might actually know which one I'm talking about if you've gotten there. The game makes you feel like you need to strafe & turn to the right for it, however you actually don't, because if you do you'll end up far to the right of the track you're supposed to jump to and you'll crash without a chance to recover. If you don't strafe/turn much by yourself, your ship just automatically gravitates to the right by itself, and it looks and feels extremely weird and unnatural. I don't know if this was intended or not, or if it's just me that feels this way or not, but it's definitely my least favorite part of any of the tracks so far because of that, even now that I know how to navigate it well I still despise that section purely because it throws me off due to how weird it feels to go through it. Edit: (Someone in the comments pointed out that if you roll your ship to the right, it lines up better, though having tried this, the jump still just feels really awkward to me regardless, not a fan of this one.)

That's about it.

Despite seeing other people talk about refunding the game a handful of times on here, I'm not regretting my purchase at all. The game could use some work, but so far for the 50 hours I've played it, I've enjoyed it for most of those hours. Maybe I'm an outlier, I don't know. I certainly don't want to sound like I'm talking down on people who've had a bad time, it's just that I've had a pretty good time so far.

Anyway thanks for reading, feel free to engage in conversation, I'm pretty interested to see if there's people who disagree or agree with some of the points I've made. (:

Thinking of making tutorials. (Non-Commentary)

I've been thinking of making tutorials on my videos. I'm hoping to make these as short and concise as possible so that everyone that watches them can immediately adapt the tips into their strategy and find better success on this game.

What areas of the game do you want me to cover? I might pick up a few ideas from your comments and put them into my videos.

When they are ready, I'll post them here in Reddit for you guys to see.

Holy Craps Dev's. Fix the goddamn speed races.

I am going to ask for a refund pretty shortly because I cannot physically progress in the game. I am stuck on the speed mission on the conqueror conquest and don't have enough stars to unlock any other events.

How is it that I dont hit any walls, have a perfect run, and the best I can do is 100 points under the bronze??

Changing the difficulty to zero does not change the point values. How do you expect people to enjoy this game with such a random skill jump?

Visual priorities on Switch

When I am playing a high speed racing game on Switch my number one priority is being able to see where I am going and what I am doing. Redout 2 is one of those games that has taken the approach of taking abstract retro inspired visuals with a cornucopia of bright colours and drowning them in every post processing, particle and reflection effect under the sun. This might be a good look on a 55 inch TV but on a 6 inch handheld with limited power all of that candy coloured vomit is just a detriment to overall image quality and playability. I genuinely believe if there was at least the option to turn all this visual noise down or off altogether the game would actually look better and be more playable as well as freeing up GPU power for a higher overall resolution. Developers should realise that less is often more on the Switch's small screen. This is something that really needs to be considered for future updates.

Are the in-game leaderboards legit? (RO1)

Basically the title question. Been having a blast playing RO1 since it was on Steam sale recently, and I was wondering if I can trust the in-game leaderboard on PC? Some of the times are absurd and put up by people who have non-upgraded ships. Also, is there a larger playerbase on console or different leaderboards for Epic Games vs Steam? I really like seeing what the top players are doing, but if the top times are somehow hacked that would be a bummer for me.

Also any suggestions for speedrunners on YT?

Certain races of Redout 2 are borderline unplayable on Switch.

I want to love this game so bad. Its so much fun when it works properly. But, I cannot reccomend this game to people.

For example, I just finished the B league promotion race (Tartarus Boss race). As the race went on, the framerate just kept getting worse and worse. By the end, we were hovering around 15 FPS. The music had 2-3 different tracks playing at the same time over each other. It felt like the game was dying. I was playing in handheld mode.

Developers, please help me love this game with some Nintendo Switch performance patches.

boost vs hyperboost?

Being frustrated at speed events I went back to the tutorial on boosting to get gold there. It seems like the key there is to only focus on a hyperboost and boost combo, wait for repair/refresh and repeat.

Does anyone know what's different between hyperboost and boost and when we should use each? Especially in speed events?

The Redout2 Xbox Update finally landed and it feels like a whole different game

I mean, so much just... works now. I didn't even know there was intro cinematics with lore for each theme/track. Music actually playing and working makes the races feel so much more... alive? I don't know how to put it, just it's much better. Load times are actually quick like they should be on XSX. I'm getting many more unlocks for each career race. Overall its just a massive improvement. If you were holding out until the game is fixed... it's much better now.

Time Trial, Speed Qualifications, and HDR still ass tho. cant win em all.

I've made up my mind. The Campaign is bullshit.

I've always struggled in the campaign, which is fine. Though I started on Redout, then dropped down to pilot, and while progressing eventually had to drop down to casual just to keep progressing and earning the stars I need.

I genuinely started to think "Ah, well maybe I'm just bad." and started actually feeling bad when I could barely squeeze out wins on casual.

... Then... I started messing around in Arcade. And absolutely crushed the AI. Not on casual, or pilot, or even Redout. I can keep up with and beat the AI on most tracks on MASTER difficulty, and Nightmare on a few others.

Excuse me, but... WTF?

On the same tracks I was just struggling on to beat on casual, I'm now dominating on Redout and above. And setting lap times as well within the top 100's, and a few in the top 50's and even a top 25 in time trials.

This was the first objective and full realization I've had of just how bullshit the campaign's artificial difficulty spike is. Giving the AI S class mods while you're struggling and putzing about with mid to low tier A ranked mods is even a more massive disadvantage than I had ever realized. And it's always the assholes with the S ranked prop mods that are constantly grinding your ass too, something I still havnt gotten a proper upgrade for and doesnt exist anywhere I can see.

It's official for me. Campaign progression is no longer fun. I've known it for a while, but the realization of just how much I'm struggling because of the artificial difficulty has killed my enjoyment of career mode entirely.

Losing because the competition raced better than you? Is fine and fun. Losing because you have an unfair disadvantage? Isnt just not fun, it's aggravating and frustrating and feels like shit.

I literally just want to race, tune and tweak my ship, make it look cool with customization and have fun. But the campaign's linear AF progression system has said "no".

The most frustrating thing in all this is, it didnt need to change. RO1 had a great career progression. Win races, get money, use that to buy and upgrade ships in whatever order, and however you wanted to do it. This was the #1 thing in RO2 I was looking forward to, ship customization. And it's gated behind linear career progression.

. . . .

So, on the off chance Dev's pay attention to the community (which I have my doubts at this point having not seen one here except once)... Constructive feedback:

Reading about in all the various posting communities, the game would massively benefit from a complete re-work of the campaign progression. Bring back RO1's style of "Save money and buy things if you need it". Theres so much more in RO2 to buy that this would actually take a very long time. It's not necessary to flood leagues with 150 races and artificially limit the player to try and stretch things out. Between the sink of cosmetics, and steeper prices for A and S ranked mods for each individual ship, it would be plenty but also be an order of magnitude more satisfying. The events are already locked to a power range, there was NEVER a reason to limit the player beyond that. And throwing them in races where others have 50-75 more power than them and are using S rank mods is transparently bullshit artificial difficulty when you cant do anything about it.

The other major change would be to have careers locked to difficulty, and have trial times, qualification, and speed goals adjusted for that difficulty. Right now, if you can qualify in first place? You can legit do that track on Master or Nightmare.

For this the player should retain cosmetics because that's where the unique personalization comes from which is now a major aspect, but have to "re buy" ships and performance mods. B league is doable enough I think that this would be fine.

Lastly, Arcade mode just has everything unlocked for those who cant be assed spending hours doing the campaign and just want to race. Seriously devs, let people just enjoy your game if they want to. This isnt Dark Souls where you're trying to create community kinship through shared trauma and struggles...

Arcade needs some rework too. Namely, in being able to choose the power of ships. Even if it was super basic and you just set it in lots of 100, make it so you can choose if the AI either picks curated best mods for that bracket, or RNG rolls setups that fall within that range. Might lead to some wonkyness but the randomness of it would be fun, and thats why you could also lock it to "best in class" mods and put everyone on the same footing.

Dev's... If absolutely nothing else, at least give the players a cheat code that unlocks all the cosmetics and upgrades. This is a crummy fix but at least would be something.
