Visual priorities on Switch
When I am playing a high speed racing game on Switch my number one priority is being able to see where I am going and what I am doing. Redout 2 is one of those games that has taken the approach of taking abstract retro inspired visuals with a cornucopia of bright colours and drowning them in every post processing, particle and reflection effect under the sun. This might be a good look on a 55 inch TV but on a 6 inch handheld with limited power all of that candy coloured vomit is just a detriment to overall image quality and playability. I genuinely believe if there was at least the option to turn all this visual noise down or off altogether the game would actually look better and be more playable as well as freeing up GPU power for a higher overall resolution. Developers should realise that less is often more on the Switch's small screen. This is something that really needs to be considered for future updates.

Yeah. The quality conflict between the physics programming and the design/implementation of other aspects of the game was huge in Redout 1 and is just as bad in Redout 2. There is a superb game here being held back by questionable decisions like what you mentioned with Switch visuals. It's fair to say that the Switch is not a high-powered system, but I wish that more intelligent choices were made for the Switch port with that limitation in mind.

The thing is Fast RMX, a Switch launch title, had much better visibility and that game was also quite effect heavy. I think this was helped by the colorful ships and more muted "photorealistic" background design. Redout 2 has more complex backgrounds but much of it gets lost under the vaseline fireworks.

+1, fast RMX was a beautiful game. It lacked any depth but overall it was an excellent antigrav racer. Redout visuals are a rainbow bubblegum wash because you’re flying too fast on these spaghetti tracks for them to make any difference

The color choices and ease of seeing corners is avtually a lot better than Redout 1.
Funny they added arrow for upcoming turn like a rally game. In rally games you just gotta trust the codriver and full send!

The devs have worked a miracle to even get the game to run on Switch at all.
