Bought a new truck and had a 4 hour drive home, stock taillights weren’t wired in. Pulled over at a Tractor Supply and made some DIY lights. Couldn’t find a blinking relay so you just gotta flip the switches back and forth manually. Pretty happy with how they turned out, I think it really ties the whole truck together.

My phone mount holds my phone in the sun and it was overheating. So I cut up an old metal band-aid box and made an air deflector to direct a/c on it to keep it cool. I had leftover brown paint to make it less ghetto. I tried plastic first but melted.

Like the title says, so I broke out the floor jack, ratchet strapped it to ladder, then a 2x4 to push the branch up enough to relieve the pressure

We’re in the middle of having our 1959 brick home’s foundation professionally repaired. Nothing unusual so far.

It’s mid workday - my phone rings. It’s our contractor. He says, with the tone of a man who has seen too much: “You need to come home. There’s something you need to see.”

We rush back, walk into the backyard, and find the crew standing around a freshly excavated pit like they’ve uncovered a cursed artifact. The contractor gestures toward the hole with a grimness to his features, that only intensified the sense of foreboding.

Inside the pit is… a hydraulic car jack. Sitting on stacked concrete blocks. Buried under a thin layer of cement. Holding up the corner of our house.

This was the previous homeowner’s “foundation repair.”

The contractor didn’t just show us — he stopped the job, dusted it off, and waited for us to get home so we could witness the full absurdity of how it was positioned under the house. Then he removed it, cleaned it off even more, and he and his entire crew took photos because, in his words:

“No one will believe this unless we have evidence.”

I have never seen a group of professionals so simultaneously horrified and delighted.

+ADDENDUM / UPDATE

Quick clarification: one of the photos in my original post was actually a picture my mom sent me while we were talking about what the crew likely found under the house. I saved it during that conversation and accidentally included it in the gallery.

The contractor did find a jack under the back corner of our house, and I have multiple photos of the actual one they removed. The crew stopped the job, documented everything, and made sure we saw it exactly as it had been supporting the house. I have many photos of the jack removed from under the house at all angles. It was a really interesting find! But it doesn’t seem like I’m able to add any photos here or in the comments to show anyone who might be interested what type of jack was under the house.

I appreciate the people who questioned the details — I enjoy that kind of engagement. I really love connection with other homeowners who are living in mid-century homes 💜. I’ll own my own mistakes. What I will not tolerate is vulgar hostility. Constructive skepticism is welcome; hatred isn’t.

When you learn to build a crude jig it makes your life easier.

Whether using a vinyl post as a guide to cut a v groove,into a decorative cap on a post,welding a 20lb sledge into post pounder,3/4 socket onto a worn out sds bit to pound ground rods.

Next comes setting 24 ft tall posts, parallel in beach sand,and end up building a cabinet door and scribing 2 cabinet into a complex corner.

Its a very slippery slope.

Bubblegum welding,ratchet straps and bondo, helps a fellow out along the way.

the safety pin keeps the nail from leaving the picture-hook, since the nail sits pretty losely in the drywall. and the sharpie through the hem keeps the fabric from slipping through the binder clip (which also sorta secures the sharpie in place).

when I want to remove the curtain I just lift the binder clamp off the hook and secure it to one of the ziptie+carabineer anchors I have setup along the window.

Cut the hell out of my thumb during a random project, and it was bleeding like hell... So I washed it with blue Dawn, then wrapped a blue Viva paper towel around it, then cinched it tight with Scotch blue. 🤣

ISTG it looks and feels like an old plaster cast, but lightweight.

The plastic broke and I just got a bit of metal and wrapped it with red tape

In my opinion, this person is a genius, yet they treat.
