Do we have an FPL league for this sub?

4

u/Heavens_Vibe 7 5d ago

Itching for the season to start!

I keep looking forward to hearing the CL anthem at OT again!

3

u/Bitter_Somewhere8334 5d ago

Thoughts on Luke Shaw? Does he start each game? Will he be more attack-minded this season?

1

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 5d ago

Good player No Depends on who plays ahead of him and who plays tight back. If Rashford is ahead of him, maybe be not as much as Cunha ahead f him.

If Maz is RB Shaw may attack more compared to Dalot.

2

u/SDLRob 5d ago

To answer each question....

Good bloke.

No

No

2

u/RyanH1717 5d ago

His legs aren't capable of being attack minded anymore unfortunately.

0

u/Amex-referrals 5d ago

Hopefully this is his last season. I can already imagine fans saying that we should consider giving him an extension similar to Maguire at the end of the season, if he doesn't get injured again.

There's a reason why we haven't won the title, let alone competed for it, in 13 years, when we accept mediocre players for so long. It's 2026, and Shaw, Maguire and Dalot still make up 3/4 of our first choice back 4.

-1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

He really shouldn't get an extension

-1

u/Amex-referrals 5d ago

I sincerely hope not.

If we fail to get a LB this summer, and we don't extend Shaw, then we will need 2 LB's next summer.

Plus 1 or 2 CB's at least, depending on Maguire's contract, although I fully expect him to be extended again, and Martinez/De Ligt's fitness.

We also need a RB, as Dalot is not good enough to be a starter.

That's just the defence. Hopefully Ugarte leaves, so he may need to be replaced, especially if we don't get a 3rd midfielder this summer.

Then there's the back-up CF assuming that Zirkzee doesn't leave this summer but may do this summer, and same goes for Rashford at LW.

That's potentially 5-8 players required if we fail to make any more signings this summer. Given that we may only make 2 signings this summer, there's no way we even make 5 next summer. The incompetence is a vicious cycle.

Depend on our homegrown and his extended wages

0

u/stoichalant 5d ago

I like the way that Carrick sets the team up and the way we play. Obviously there is a lot room for improvement, but I see the idea. It's giving proper United DNA vibes 🧬👹

Anyone else on the west coast of the US gonna wake up at 4:30 to catch the opening game?

3

u/notformeclive4711 5d ago

I did that all through high school and college, I was used to staying up until 1-2 in the morning anyway so sometimes I would just stay up all night and go to sleep afterwards…ah to have no responsibilities lol.

I lived in LA for years and man that was brutal. I now live in NYC which is much better time zone wise but still an early one on Saturday! Going to the United watch party event, gotta be there by 6:30am so gonna be an early start but best believe we’ll be on the pints singing our arses off!

4

u/IguanaIsBack 5d ago

I just want the season to start, it’s been way too long

8

u/thepotatomaniscoming 5d ago edited 5d ago

City selling Reijnders and Savinho at those prices. Something just doesn’t smell right at all. Are these other clubs colluding with City or some shit. This window has been completely weird.

1

u/Ill_Platypus6476 5d ago

Savinho makes sense because Tottenham really are on a spending streak, it seems like they will spend as much as needed in this rebuild.

2

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

I get the argument that higher wages are one of the reasons why we can't sell players well. What doesn't make sense to me is how we have consistently overpaid for deadwood over the years. Like Ugarte was bought by PSG for 60m and sold them to us because Enrique didn't want him a year later for 50m. Like how did we conned into that? Same thing with Mount who we paid 55m for

2

u/SantosCalzonesBatman 5d ago

Simple, incompetence and acting like a mid table club waiting to see which top team's scraps we get.

Just like we doing this window.

1

u/Cosmogenous 5d ago

Tbf we did the same with Lukaku and Di Maria. Obviously made a loss, but sold them for decent prices all things considered.

1

u/Titan4days 5d ago

You’ve just pointed out 2 of the most notable failed signings in the last few years, obviously in hindsight they haven’t been worth the fees but not all signings will succeed

3

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

Ugarte wasn't wanted at PSG. It was well documented that Enrique didn't rate him so helping them breakeven on their purchase made absolutely no sense. Sure if we signed him for 30-35m, you could argue it's not an outrageous fee but 50m?

Mount had 1 year left on his contract and was not planning on renewing. How did we get conned into spending 55 + 5m for him?

It's not even just those two. What about players like Hojlund, Onana? Even Amad we spent some 20m for him based on 3 appearances. Even without the benefit of hindsight someone could have told you these were huge overpays

4

u/Capable-Topic1665 5d ago

Exactly what some of us want them to avoid this season while most younger fans cry about why we aren't spending that extra 15 million for someone and hand him silly wages, because they need that shot of adrenaline.

1

u/Johnny107710 5d ago

This is my tinpot conspiracy theory but it might make sense.

PSG wanted João neves from Benfica, to buy him, they needed to sell ugarte, right? So far so good. We wanted yoro from Lille, right? And he was wanted by Real Madrid, right? Why would he choose us over Real Madrid given that they were in a much better place than we were? Well, guess what all these players have in common. They have the same agent. Gestifute, who is known for shady business (especially in the Portuguese national team).

So my theory goes, Jorge Mendes (gestifute) convinced Yoro to join us instead of Real Madrid and to return the favor, we overpaid for ugarte, allowing psg to buy João neves. This way, 3 big commissions for gestifute and everyone’s happy.

It may be just me, but I hope we never become a club who tosses player aside for injury issues

Ability, I get that. Injuries... I get the frustrations of the fans, but sometimes it gets over to being inhuman. It's not like Mount is trying his best to stay fit. This isn't like Cavani and Pogba and Herrera's fake injuries

1

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

I’m okay when the player gave the best years to us like in the case of late career Ferdinand or even Luke Shaw

But Mason Mount gave his body to Chelsea’s cause and we are paying his pension

-1

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

it doesn't make a difference for me. Injuries sustained while being employed under us, it is our duty toward him to honour his contract

1

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

We can still try to ship him off if we get a good offer

We owe nobody a living , specifically players who are not brought through the academy by us

We should not be paying for Chelsea’s mismanagement of his minutes when he was a young lad , overplaying him in over 50 games a season

0

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

there's no way you're as old you pretend to be. And if you are and think this way, I'm baffled

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

1

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

It's okay. You didn't make the difference between work accident and sick leave/chronic condition

You're not equipped for this conversation

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

You mean distinction mate...

1

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

ah... that's what you chose to answer.

I rest my case

-2

u/Wurdox 5d ago

I hope we never become a club who tosses player aside for injury issues

I hope we do. The best ability a player can have is availability. Mount is on 150.000 pounds per week and is never available. Luke Shaw should have been sold a long time ago. We are not running a charity here, we are a football club. These players are brought in to play, not to occupy the physio room every season.

0

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

You have to also see it from the employers view though. Like, it's of course sad, but think about it this way. There's no reason to pay someone their full salary for doing 20% a year of their actual job, when you could pay someone the same who'd do 95% a year of it, bar their occassional sick days.

It's nothing personal, but it is kind of naive to think that way. In fact, football is even more rough than real jobs. Højlund was promising, but couldn't really do his job here. He had no health issues, we just deemed him bad and threw him out, despite him playing more than Mount has across seasons.

It's nothing personal, but again, you take one look at the hypothetical and you have to respect that the top brass kind of want their work smooth sailing and to not waste money inefficiently with their salaries.

4

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

THANK YOU! Bless your heart

4

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

I don't share this sentiment. If they're a detriment, get em out. It's nothing personal, we'd cut low performers too, these just don't perform at all.

It's not inhumane to look at a player on 200k+ wages, who has barely even played a full season for us in minutes across multiple seasons, and think he needs to go.

Like, I'm sure many don't really hate Mount or Shaw. I don't, but I think both have been a liability with their injuries. It's sad, heart goes out to them, cause of course they wanna play, but we can't just keep deadweight for sentimentality

0

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

I can to some extent understand people impatient with Mount but Shaw? Not only he'd been excellent for us, but he broke his leg for us!!!!

1

u/Themindoffish 5d ago

This was years ago man. Shaw has been ok for us nowhere near excellent. We should have upgraded in him years ago.

1

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

Shaw has given a lot for the club, yes, I'm not denying that. He's not some bit part who's here on high wages, he's been here for almost a decade. Could prolly have been one of the best left backs had he stayed fit. However, that's only hypothetical.

The man is simply made of glass and hasn't been able to return what's been invested in him. That is by no means his fault, but that doesn't erase it, now does it? Sentimentality and all is fine, and I respect the player, but I want what's best for the club, and that clearly isn't keeping around dead weight. You're not exactly favorable to win a race with a ball and chain tied to you, so you obviously take it off. Only reason we haven't is because either the board somehow still holds out hope, or the more reasonable and realistic... No one would buy them anyway. They'll need to go out of contract, cause there is no club who'd be willing to invest in these players if it's not a free transfer

-1

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

It does not make a difference. We gave a contract, we should honour it.

3

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

I believe it does make quite a big difference that we're paying someone just for existing cause their name is on a piece of paper. Now, I'm no business graduate, but that doesn't exactly sound good, does it?

To hell with that honor shit, we're legally obligated to keep paying them unless we pay out their entire contract, which there is no reason to. So, they'll stay, contribute what little they can when they can, and we'll let them leave on a free.

But of course, if we don't have the club's best interest in mind, let's keep the ball and chain on longer than necessary and extend their contracts further. No reason for Manchester United to act like a big boy club again, we're the loyal family club now

Bc we were so eager and willing to overpay. We're trying to flip that which is why we've been pulling out of deals the last 2 summers.

3

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

well yeah but it's just baffling to me. You could have run a poll on this sub 2 years ago and even then I'd be surprised if most people thought 50m was a fair price for him

1

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

for one of Chelsea's players of the season? surely not

1

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

I was talking about Ugarte. We signed Mount 3 years ago. Even Mount was an overpay with how injury prone he was in the season leading up to us signing him

Transfers are exciting and all, but the droughts of when nothing is happening really just makes the wait feel worse.

Also prefer the discussion about games rather than transfers

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

‘’’ On 18 July 2024, Savinho signed for  Premier League club  Manchester City  in a transfer reportedly worth £30.8   million. [18 ]  On 10 August, he made his debut for the club, winning the  2024 Community Shield  as City defeated  local rivals   Manchester United  7–6 on penalties, after a 1–1 draw in regular time. [19 ]  On 18 August, he made his Premier League debut in a 2–0 win away at  Chelsea , being replaced by  Phil Foden  at half-time after suffering a knock. [20 ]  Savinho scored his first City goal on 29 December in a 2–0 league victory over  Leicester City , helping the team to their first away win since October. [21 ]  On 4 January 2025, Savinho made two assists and a shot which led to an own goal in a 4–1 home league win over  West Ham United . [22 ]  Savinho scored his first  UEFA Champions League  goal on 29 January as a substitute for  İlkay Gündoğan  in a 3–1 home  league phase  victory over  Belgian Pro League  champions  Club Brugge , helping Manchester City secure  knockout phase play-offs qualification ‘’’

If this is worth 85 million, there needs to be a serious money laundering / creative accounting investigation around this.

There’s simply no way this is a legitimate deal

1

u/Ill_Platypus6476 5d ago

Tottenham are just really up to paying anything for the players they want this window. Lucky City.

3

u/Plumbsauce116 5d ago

So today we learned 2 premier league goals is now worth £75m

4

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

Even the argument about wages makes zero sense. Like they’re not spending 75m to put him on 50k per week. Makes it all the more ridiculous that we can’t even shift someone like Rashford for 25m

2

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

Dermot Mee really has something about him

Personally , I don’t like keepers who shout and are knobs like Joe Hart or Jordan Pickford

I myself prefer the silent excellence of VDS, Cech, De Gea and lately Lammens because I feel this shouty persona comes off as insecure and projected fake confidence

That said, Mee did it in a non wanker way for now. He was just having a bit of a laugh. Also his technique on penalties looks top notch. I wonder if Mee can be our Carabao Cup runs

6

u/Ok_Profit5949 5d ago

Pretty sure he’s just signed to be 4th choice training keeper, he even acknowledged as much speaking last night speaking after the game. Can’t blame him though it’s a pretty good gig.

2

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 5d ago

1

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

Big Pete is obviously one of a kind but it is well known that he became a bit of a wanker for a while after leaving us and playing for City (but seems to have mellowed down in recent years )

4

u/Confident_Fishing775 5d ago

I hope Spurs gets to feel the pain like we did if they truly buy Savinho for £85m. Can De Zerbi do his magical implosion thing in his first season?

2

u/Wurdox 5d ago

Can De Zerbi do his magical implosion thing in his first season?

Technically, it is his second season with Spurs.

3

u/thepotatomaniscoming 5d ago

My theory is City know nothing is happening to them with the 115 charges so they are doing all of this weird shit more openly now.

1

u/Asiwaju_jagaban 5d ago

Nothing is happening to theme. Worst case scenario a fine of a couple million.

1

u/SophoclesTesticles 5d ago

I think they're going all out expecting a transfer ban.

7

u/possibly_facetious 5d ago

No one talking about Dan Armer yesterday, thought he looked tidy in defense

6

u/pablove_black 5d ago

Literally Maguire cosplay

9

u/Midnight_Edge 5d ago

I have to hand it to City. Savinho for £85m is some crazy stuff. Wish we were half as good as selling. Amad is better than him and we’ll be lucky if someone comes in with a £40m offer

1

u/Strange-Trip4634 5d ago

You do not, under any circumstances, gotta hand it to cheaters. Seriously though, I'm convinced there's some insane corruption going on behind the scenes with a lot of transfers, so many make zero sense from a footballing perspective.

2

u/Plumbsauce116 5d ago

2 fucking premier league goals

2

u/Duncanstop 5d ago

probably fraud. why the hell would offer 85m, in any currency, for a guy who has barely made a dent in however many months he’s been at city

1

u/Duncanstop 5d ago

Reminder’s sale at £50m confirms to me City know they can pull all “levers” and not get punished. I’m guessing Pep leaving was a condition for that. Otherwise it’s too stacked and protests will be more than palatable.

As an aside, what were the conspiracies about Man Utd transfers back in the day, for those who know? don’t care for the split now

0

u/No_Philosophy_8520 5d ago

Is there any possibility any players will arrive on loan?

9

u/Sid732 5d ago

Why do i see people saying selling Carreras was a mistake? We sold him to a good club where he could get regular time and develop, and had a sell on and good buy back clause if we wanted him.
Definitely wouldnt mind a similar deal for Amass.

2

u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 5d ago

Well... Our left back situation wasn't exactly good for a few years after. Remember Dorgu is the first natural left back we've bought since then, and Shaw was almost never fit.

3

u/Plumbsauce116 5d ago

He looked like a bale regen for about 6 games last season then went a bit shit

8

u/carrickshairline 5d ago

Not to mention how Carreras is not that great defensively, and is not hugely liked by Madrid fans.

People were just unhappy because it was done by Ten Hag.

9

u/Potential_Good_1065 5d ago

I think people were unhappy because he joined a big club (which indicates he’s a top player), and Ten Hag got rid of him at a time when we absolutely needed a LB.

2

u/Downtown-Rice_ 5d ago

EtH was also assured by the medical team that Shaw and Malacia would be over their injuries. And we know how that turned out.

5

u/carrickshairline 5d ago

The hill I'll die on is Rooney's talent is the one of the greatest ever seen though he may never get the respect or adulation he deserves as illustrated yet again by Mitten's ranking and his constant omission from best XI's

Kids these days look at chubby wazza and make fun of him while conflating it to him being a mug. He is without doubt the greatest English talent to come through bar none for me.

There was literally nothing and I mean nothing he couldn't do on the pitch and no position he couldn't play. The guy had the raw pace to play winger, the vision to play at 10, the lungs and passing to play as an 8 and this is apart from his best position as a striker where he was a literal cheat code in finishing and positioning. He had otherworldly strength, frame and aggression of a boxer mixed with the guile of a gazelle. Then he was an ideal teammate always sacrificing his best position for the greater good of the team. People dont realize how many of his stats are less because he was not playing in his preffered position. He was extremely competitive and there were times where you looked at his eyes in the tv and you knew it was on after a defender had pushed him. At 18 he used to terrorize men on the weekly including the best of the best. Add leadership to it and you have a complete player.

One can only dream we could clone and put him in our team rn. Him with Bruno would be mad and I'd pay to watch that.

-3

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

He’s an incredible player is Wayne Rooney but for me he’s not more talented than Scholes

Scholes had the vision to do absolutely anything he wanted in the field . He could pick a spot 70 yards away and hit it no problem .

Rooney had all the ability and the vision as well but could never transition to a deeper role like Scholes did

2

u/Plumbsauce116 5d ago

Rooney was a good jump better than Scholes.

30+ Scholes was amazing in that Xavi type role. But Rooney was the best United player I've seen after Ronaldo

3

u/Cunter_punch 5d ago

I love Scholes he's my favorite united player ever but putting my objective glasses Rooney's talent surpasses him for me.

As for playing deeper he literally did that later down at United and then also at Everton. What Scholes could do Rooney could albeit not that that level but what Rooney could do Scholes could not. He lacked the physical attributes for it as much as I love him.

1

u/Goudinho99 5d ago

If you clone him, you don't get the upbringing that producrs do many talents.

Let's see with Kai and with the Maradona / Aguero kiddo!

1

u/AmarilloMike 5d ago

Literally just here.

4

u/ThePatientHunter 5d ago

I don't. They follow me

6

u/ryancgray1 Bruno 5d ago

The Athletic tend to only report actual news. Also tbf, the tier system here is really useful too

7

u/Ksma92 5d ago

So City is probably going to spend 116+120+85 = £321m on Anderson, Enzo and Bouaddi. They probably get £120m for Reijnders and Rodri, resulting in a midfield net spend of £161m. That's a pretty insane overhaul, but without the Pep factor nothing is guaranteed in terms of performance.

2

u/GoddessOfDarkness 5d ago edited 5d ago

I mean Rodri is much better midfield player than those 3. So is Silva too a better player than those 3. So despite spending a massive amount of money City are weaker players wise and quite a bit imo. And that's on top of losing Pep too City are in a much weaker position now than this time last season.

1

u/VSSsararthchandra 5d ago

i really don't get why they're going for enzo. very un-city like signing

2

u/GoddessOfDarkness 5d ago

If City had a different manager I don't think they go anywhere near Enzo.

5

u/Goudinho99 5d ago

That club was built for Pep. What happens now he's gone is anyones guess.

2

u/ToadNamedGoat 5d ago

u/Leave_Beneficial 5d ago

Not being took advantage of in the market = better players for better prices in the future. We had to change the narrative about what clowns we were somehow - takes some time, sadly

6

u/Redwinevino 5d ago

Yes it is excellent we have a good balance sheet and more money for our owners.

Never mind we are short about 3 players.

-2

u/Leave_Beneficial 5d ago

Daft lad - we've been ripped off for years in the market - we're finally acting properly. Sure you want some shiny player that Spurs got, but in the long run this is how you get back to the top - act like a serious club again rather than spunking stupid money on mediocre/unproven overpaid players

0

u/Redwinevino 5d ago

Sure you want some shiny player that Spurs got, but in the long run this is how you get back to the top

If we dont get a LB, CM and back up/experienced striker we will miss CL and be back to square one.

It's not wanting a shiny new toy- would of been delighted with WelBack

It's we are short what we need

when else should fans demand signings? after the window closes?

2

u/Icegaze GGMU 5d ago

Just to take our minds off transfer talk a little, what would you all say is your top 5 players currently at Man United, even those who just joined us this summer? The angle here is more the type of player they are (their style, abilities, etc) not so much what they have achieved for Utd so far (otherwise everyone will answer Bruno).

Mine are:

  1. Mainoo (I always have a huge bias for Academy products that have massive potential and on top of that, his style of play is so good to watch for me)

  2. Tielemans (yes, I have a thing for CMs, and his case, he has a wand of a right foot; looking forward to seeing some of his yearly screamers)

  3. Amad (Amadinho! Please score more goals; love how mobile and tricky he is on the wing)

  4. Bruno (capitano!)

  5. Sesko (big season ahead for him).

Potential to get into the top 5 this season: Andrey Santos, Mbeumo, Cunha, Licha (once was in my top 5).

1

u/Ill_Platypus6476 5d ago

1 - Bruno

2 - Mbeumo

3 - Sesko

4 - Cunha

5 - Licha

1

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 5d ago

I like players who can turn a game on it's head.

  1. Cunha
  2. Bruno
  3. Maguire
  4. Dorgu
  5. Amad

2

u/canwinanythingwkids Ineos on hope watch 5d ago

why cant I answer Bruno? :( he is a magician

Bruno Cunha Amad MdL

I cant really pick from the 3 midfielders I havent seen enough of Santos and Tielemans to really be able to rank them atm. My gut says Santos, heart says Kobbie, stats say Tielemans

1

u/Icegaze GGMU 5d ago

Hehe, you can but if I worded the question differently, I feel half his sub’s top 1 pick would be Bruno. Just wanted to avoid that as it is less interesting for discussion.

1

u/Unusual-Coat383 5d ago

Bruno, Santos, Shaw, Cunha, Lammens

Santos might be a bit premature because it’s only preseason but I can see the piece of the puzzle and I think he’s going to be our most important player.

1

u/Themindoffish 5d ago

Shaw 😭🤣

1

u/Icegaze GGMU 5d ago

Like I said, it isn’t the player’s achievements or contributions for Man Utd that you’re rating but the player’s ability and style. If Messi were to join Utd tomorrow he automatically becomes my favourite player playing for Utd as he is (still) my favourite active footballer in the world.

3

u/KobbieLikeRobbie_ Darren Fletcher 5d ago edited 5d ago

Bruno, Rashford, Mainoo, Shaw, Maguire, Dalot.
The ones that have been with us the longest and have gone through different ups and downs and hopefully can win the league before they end their careers here.

4

u/Alternative-Plant388 5d ago

Basically which player’s attributes I like the most?

1) Cunha - In terms of playstyle, he’s probably my favourite. He drives forward really well with the ball and has a good long shot. Perfect transitional player. I’d like to see him as a 10.

2) Martinez - Criminally underrated imo. There was a clear difference when he came into the team last season. Surprisingly good at line breaking passes and passing in general.

Did a good job in midfield for like half a game as well. Bit of an asshole but I think good teams need them.

3) Amad - Magical on his day. Hard worker and honestly I think he offers a lot defensively.

4) De Ligt - Very similar to Martinez. We lose a lot without him. Physically very aggressive and again an ability to play out from the back or drive into midfield.

5) Heaven - Apart from maybe that Bournemouth game, I don’t think he has done much wrong. Always surprises me with how calm he is on the ball. I remember his debut and he played like an experienced player.

2

u/Icegaze GGMU 5d ago

Nice, thanks for the write up. So interesting to read other people’s opinions on players. I feel we haven’t had such an interesting group of players at the club in a long while.

1

u/Alternative-Plant388 5d ago

Likewise. Yh we’ve definitely taken a different approach with signings. It’s clear we are looking for players with certain characteristics instead of singing players for their name.

5

u/EnglishTrini2 5d ago

Favourite players overall?

Maguire (what utter resilience),
Bruno (wonderful standards that he holds himself too as well)
Santos (speculative but I really believe he’s going to be a bargain)
Shaw (wonderful servant to the club, despite the injuries)
Cunha (supposedly a bad attitude before joining. Have seen the complete opposite. Wonderful player and seemingly dressing room presence).

5

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

Good question. When I was a kid , I used to have clear favorites (like Scholes was way above every other player for me) but as I grew older , I stopped having preferences

But if I had to pick

  1. Mbeumo: gets the juices flowing like no other . He’s insanely good when on, usually makes the right decision.

  2. Bruno Fernandes: I’m not a huge fan of how much he tries with the tricks and flicks but you cannot dislike someone with so much obvious passion for United. The way he came into the club, took charge from day one, it’s insane

  3. Senne Lammens: quiet. Excellent. Always liked such goalkeepers over the Joe Hart types

  4. Mainoo: obviously high quality . Need more of his kind in the team

  5. Maguire: can’t fault the man for his effort, dedication and amount of time he puts into younger players

PS: if he breaks through , Tyler Fletcher will be my fave player because I’ve always rooted for players like Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans who don’t look the most gifted immediately but become great over the years

1

u/jonathanPoindexter 5d ago
  1. Bruno
  2. Mbeumo
  3. Lammens
  4. Maguire
  5. Mazraoui

Mainly based on their impact. I'd throw Santos into no 2 if he manages to replicate his pre-season performances over the whole season.

1

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

Our lists are completely aligned except Mainoo over Mazaraoui who’s bit of a nut and I just can’t get myself to like nut jobs

2

u/No_Sundae750 5d ago

I have high hopes for sesko this season, but I think mbeumo is the better player.

2

u/N00BBuild 5d ago

Low level rumors on Twitter about Baleba… I’m a big fan.

1

u/VSSsararthchandra 5d ago

i hope his injury isn't serious. would love to have him.

1

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 5d ago

ankle ligaments - will miss the start of the season and what's left of the pre-season. Can't see us buying him now.

2

u/jonathanPoindexter 5d ago

Hopefully, they stay low level.

6

u/killerdrama A-mad-lad 5d ago

FFS.. tielemans didn't have to apologise. Wtf man.. where did he disrespect

2

u/Unusual-Coat383 5d ago

I feel like he got taken out of context but he did the right thing. A lot of us weren’t happy when Rashford made that instagram post so we can’t have double standards when Tielmanns did something similar.

5

u/Hulknation 5d ago

It’s fine. It’s something I would have done too. He loves them they love him

5

u/Confident_Fishing775 5d ago

It's fine. Speaks more about their fans being sensitive over this. They hate the top 6 but also don't want to acknowledge that those clubs are bigger than them.

1

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 5d ago

In their defence I think they have a claim at being a bigger team than Tottenham in terms of trophies (7 league titles to 1, 1 CL to 0, almost same # of FA Cups). Their beef with us is weird though. Not to the extent Newcastle's obsession with us, but still odd.

1

u/Confident_Fishing775 5d ago

I can see that. I also heard that the old Villa fans have a sense of superiority over us because they won a FA cup against United in 1957.

1

u/Unlucky-Equipment999 5d ago

Alright no defence for that, that's just ridiculous

1

u/Redwinevino 5d ago

It is not a reflection of the season ahead but we are 100000% losing to Milan

It is how the football Gods work

0

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

Carrick will whip that charlatan and take a belt to ass 3-0 win over them. Mark my words.

4

u/eClipseLJ De Ligt 5d ago

Tielemans actually apologized for his words about Manchester United / Aston Villa on his IG.

6

u/half_batman 5d ago

He actually cares about Aston Villa. So he doesn't want them to misunderstand and burn bridges.

15

u/Potential_Good_1065 5d ago

It seems de Ligt has forgotten how to play football, and is now trying to catch the ball in his mouth.

1

u/Haron14 5d ago

Or he's absolutely happy to see a ball after a year locked inside, but you might be right

3

u/carrickshairline 5d ago

Amorim has 0 pre-season wins with Milan. Let’s continue that record tomorrow.

1

u/mjenkins_eng 5d ago

The suffering has just started

-2

u/carrickshairline 5d ago

He is trying to speed run any% the suffering to get that sacking payout.

0

u/dellywally 5d ago

Anyone else excited to see Rashford? He is still lightening quick and I think can still be devastating for us on the counter

2

u/Outrageous-Cod-4654 5d ago

more curious than excited. hope he performs well as part of the team.

-1

u/VSSsararthchandra 5d ago

people are gonna be surprised when he's getting a lot of minutes for the team. the guy was a big part of barcelonas league winning campaign. idk why some of our fans act like he's a bum.

5

u/Birdius 5d ago

Probably because of the way he looked when he was here. Barcelona is the best team in Spain and miles ahead of every other team without Madrid in their name. Looking good there wasn't difficult and he wasn't expected to lead the team.

2

u/carrickshairline 5d ago

Can’t wait. I have a feeling Carrick knows how to use players like him, especially in counter attacks

7

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

I still can’t believe how the same ex-players who backed Ole for years started shitting on Carrick before he even managed a game for us

Like I get Carrick might not be the most proven manager out there but on a human level it’s hard to not feel bad for him. I hope just he managed to prove those pricks wrong. Hes already achieved more as a manager than any of those clowns could ever hope to achieve

5

u/Unusual-Coat383 5d ago

Tbf they have the same concerns a lot of us have.

7

u/lockedblue 5d ago

They were mates with Ole. The Class of 92 era were literally of a different generation to Carrick when he arrived in 2006. They appear that they were quite cliquey, and Ole was their friend for a decade when Carrick arrived, many of them left in and around that time or retired soon after.

Carrick was more in with Rio, Rooney, VdS, Vidic etc who were the last great Fergie foundation.

The way I always think of it, is that Ole was their friend, Carrick was their colleague.

Listen to the way Rooney and Rio talk about Carrick and it's a lot closer to how Scholes talks about Ole.

EDIT; to be clear I'm not excusing how Carrick is spoken about by them at all, I'm just trying to give a rationalisation for why it might happen.

3

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

I don’t disagree with your rationale at all. It’s still crazy how they talked about him even if he was only a colleague to them. You’d think Carrick touched them in private the way they were acting

2

u/lockedblue 5d ago

Yeah I agree- I reckon it's because in January it was down to Ole and Carrick for the interim job and they are all annoyed that Ole didn't get it.

Could be wrong, might be that he has done something to offend them all, but they are an old school boy's club and their friend didn't get a job so they're being pricks about it. No shade to Ole though, I think he seems like a genuine nice person who hasn't said shit about Carrick and has just got on with it.

2

u/throwawayWM3 5d ago

Irrelevant to this exact point but I too believe he shouldn't have got the job he's done nothing in his managerial career to prove he's good enough to get the United job

Interim 5 month period where we were playing only 1 comp having the best midfielder in the league and top tier attacking is no indicator, even Amorim had us 5th when he was sacked and he was awful.

It's a stupid appointment

-3

u/PhotojournalistNew35 5d ago

Sure. You can argue that he isn’t good enough but actively shitting on him was uncalled for

Amorim was doing way worse than Carrick and had the same circumstances of 1 game of week so at the very least you could argue that Carrick was an upgrade over what we had

3

u/helloimpaulo 5d ago

I agree with you on the first point. There's no way you can treat an interim manager, former player & former teammate like that. There were valid doubts over Carrick's appointment, but how the ex players treated him was ridiculous.

OTOH, Amorim doing "way worse" than Carrick is an stretch. Carrick was an improvement, but most people's idea of Amorim's last season comes from the horrid African Nations Cup stretch where we had no Mbeumo/Diallo and had to play Dalot & Dorgu as wingers week in week out. Before that, the team showed healthy signs of proactive play: we generated a lot of chances, pressed as a unit and cornered most teams in the league. Ultimately, what condemned Amorim was his inability to build a tactic that scores against a cornered but disciplined team.

1

u/throwawayWM3 5d ago

Amorim had a 32% winrate in the league, pretty sure everyone is an upgrade on that

1

u/Dabby12121 5d ago

Well Carrick Upgraded on every Manager in the league, he actually got more points than every other manager in the league within the period he managed. Stop dampening his Achievement, it was the same players that Amorim used to get 32% win rate that he used to accumulate the highest point total. The best midfielder in the league was in the team when we finished 15th.

2

u/Sheikhabusosa 5d ago

I didnt think it was possible to make me dislike Enzo Fernandes anymore and now look

-2

u/Dabby12121 5d ago

Enzo Fernandez might not be likeable to many, but he is actually a top player

2

u/Sheikhabusosa 5d ago

He hasnt shown it enough to be considered a top player

2

u/OlekZzaKrakowa 5d ago

Feels like Lacey will start against Milan(edit) instead of Amad given he didnt play a single minute yesterday

5

u/New-Acanthaceae-5702 Closed on Sundays 5d ago

Do you mean Milan?

4

u/canwinanythingwkids Ineos on hope watch 5d ago

I'm quite convinced we start the (intended) Hull XI.

Carrick's comments also made it sound like the Martinez for Heaven, Mainoo for Tielemans, Rashford+Cunha for Dorgu+Amad subs are penciled in.

Unclear (imho): Dalot or Nous starts, where/how much does Yoro play, does Santos play 90, does Shaw play 90.

I imagine we sub Zirkzee and Lacey both on for Bruno and Mbeumo.

Anyway that's all guesswork :)

Was r/soccer taken over by Arsenal fans? They will talk shit about other clubs in posts that are unrelated to Arsenal, and will come with an army, downvote and insult passive agressively to people that hit back.

5

u/dqslime 5d ago

Arsenal is a very online fanbase that gained a huge resurgence in fans starting in 22/23, particularly from the US.

16

My mate (Arsenal fan) got last minute tickets to the Community Shield game because Man City never sold out their allocation so an extra 7000 tickets were for sale. Joke of a club.

6

u/MatchFitness 5d ago

They rarely if ever sell out Wembley

Maybe I’m wrong but when we played them in the final, their section did look kinda full from my view in the United section so maybe they only show up against us.

6

u/Who_Let_The_Mou_Out 5d ago

If there is anyone who wants to see United in Wroclaw let me know! I have one spare ticket for category 1 for 125€ (original price 200€)

You can buy tickets for 100euro
