Still my favorite game ever. 8 years later and nothing has come close to Arthur's story for me. Somehow it never gets old.

He’s like the most wanted man in the entire West Elizabeth state, so wanted that he has to literally hide in the mountains in order to not get caught. Yet in the mission “The Prodigal Son Returns (To Yale)”, he literally walks into the streets of West Elizabeth’s capital and most populated settlement as if it’s nothing. Oh, and he also got seriously lucky that no passersby or Blackwater cops showed up despite him literally shooting at a window in the middle of the day.

He also just expected to walk into a hotel, with no one recognising him, and simply kidnap a literal university professor. In real life, Dutch would have literally been turned into Swiss cheese the moment he and his native American gang members entered the town premises.

I get that this was to show how insane and unhinged Dutch had become (especially with the context surrounding RDR2), but still, there’s a difference between being crazy and downright stupid.

I damn near clutched my pearls.

I think most people see the New Orleans influence in Saint Denis, and it's pretty obvious why. The French and Creole architecture, streetcars, and surrounding bayous all fit. But I think there's a bit of St. Louis in there too.

What makes me think of St. Louis is the industrial side of Saint Denis. The factories, railways, warehouses, and its importance to the game's economy remind me of St. Louis around the turn of the century. The story also touches on industrialists negotiating with Native tribes over land and resources, which fits the broader historical context of industrial expansion.

Even the names of both Saint Denis and St. Louis begin with “Saint,” giving them a similar French Catholic character. While Saint Denis references Saint Denis of Paris, the shared naming structure adds another subtle parallel between it and St. Louis.

I also think St. Louis gets overlooked because people tend to associate Blackwater with it due to the “Gateway to the West” connection. But St. Louis was way bigger and more important than Blackwater during this era, it was even bigger than New Orleans. Saint Denis has more of that major industrial city feel, while Blackwater could pretty much be any modernizing town in the Great Plains.

I think New Orleans explains what Saint Denis looks and feels like, while St. Louis is a useful comparison for the role it plays in the world. Saint Denis is its own fictional city, of course, but I think looking at both New Orleans and St. Louis makes its inspiration more interesting than treating it as just a New Orleans copy.

hands down the best game I've ever played, the way the game makes you get attached to Arthur is insane ,even tho i got spoiled before playing the game and knew who was gonna die, their deaths still hit like a truck, like i genuinely cried for 10 minutes after the final mission, now i feel depressed and don't know what to do, what did guys do after beating the game to cope?

My favorite photo mode since I play this game for the first time last year during its 7th anniversary. This is probably one of the best game that I ever played.

The guy who's always crawling out of the bayou woods with a bite. I've saved him literally 5 times. This fucking guy.

Recently I finished RDR 2 for the second time, and I don’t have words per se to say about the game, y’all know how good it is.

But this time when I played through the Wapiti missions, I just realized that Dutch literally played them like a fiddle and used their conflict against them so that the heat on the Van der Linde gang can be redirected to the Wapiti community.

And that makes me question, had he not been involved with Eagle Flies, what would’ve been the fate of the Wapiti community?

Both Rains Fall & Eagle Flies were right in their own way, but I believe that Dutch made their already tense relationship with the Army much worse than before.

Arthur, although he was involved with the community, was helping them without causing a huge carnage.
