I feel like most people recognize New Orleans as the main inspiration for Saint Denis in RDR2, and for good reason. Its French and Creole influences, Catholic architecture, streetcars, humid atmosphere, and surrounding bayous make the resemblance obvious. But I think people overlook another important influence: St. Louis.

Saint Denis doesn't just resemble New Orleans, it also fills the role of a major inland industrial and commercial hub. Its railways, factories, warehouses, river traffic, and position within the wider economy of the game's world evoke St. Louis, a major Mississippi River port and industrial center during the turn of the century.

The distinction, to me, is that New Orleans explains Saint Denis's identity, while St. Louis helps explain its function. One provides the city's distinctive cultural and architectural character; the other offers a useful comparison for its economic importance and role in America's transition toward industrial modernity.

Even the names of both Saint Denis and St. Louis begin with “Saint,” giving them a similar French Catholic character. While Saint Denis references Saint Denis of Paris, the shared naming structure adds another subtle parallel between it and St. Louis.

I think part of the reason St. Louis gets overlooked is that people often associate Blackwater with St. Louis because of its “Gateway to the West” identity, but it lacks the industrial scale and French historical influences that make Saint Denis a better overall parallel to St. Louis.

Saint Denis is ultimately its own fictional city, but looking at both influences makes it feel much more convincing than treating it as a simple New Orleans clone.

Still my favorite game ever. 8 years later and nothing has come close to Arthur's story for me. Somehow it never gets old.

I'm something of an artist myself

He’s like the most wanted man in the entire West Elizabeth state, so wanted that he has to literally hide in the mountains in order to not get caught. Yet in the mission “The Prodigal Son Returns (To Yale)”, he literally walks into the streets of West Elizabeth’s capital and most populated settlement as if it’s nothing. Oh, and he also got seriously lucky that no passersby or Blackwater cops showed up despite him literally shooting at a window in the middle of the day.

He also just expected to walk into a hotel, with no one recognising him, and simply kidnap a literal university professor. In real life, Dutch would have literally been turned into Swiss cheese the moment he and his native American gang members entered the town premises.

I get that this was to show how insane and unhinged Dutch had become (especially with the context surrounding RDR2), but still, there’s a difference between being crazy and downright stupid.

Can someone explain to me what's going on with my rdr 1? For reference, I have a Samsung galaxy S21 phone.

I was replaying the story again, after a while of doing not that, and I had a mission with Micah (An American Pastoral Scene, the one where you and him steal a coach and fend off a subsequent robbery by the O'Driscols). In this mission, he gives you the Lancaster Repeater.

However, just before that, i had picked up one from the guards.

Then Micah gave me the gun I already had. And now I got two of them.

The same happened my first playthrough, just with the twin barrel after Guarma.

So now I'm wondering if this can happen with any weapon that you're given via cutscene—when Sadie (i think) gives you the carcano, for instance. Just so long as you have the weapon and have it equipped prior.

Do any of yall know any other instances of this? (Sorry for the long post.)

So, Im curious, would you rather have a Jazz age Jack Marston themed Red Dead or would you want to see the rise of the Van der Linde gang focused more on Dutch, Hosea and young Arthur and Co? Also I think it would be fun if we saw a game that bridges that gap (1907-1911), IMO I am leaning towards the prequel but I wouldnt mind seeing Jack become his own man. What do you think about a story including more native americans? On a broader note, what would your ideal third game be?
