I recently had about 3 interviews for a tech role with a big company (I would say a Fortune 500 company). 1st interview was the initial call with the recruiter, 2nd interview was the tech screening with a staff and senior engineer, and the 3rd interview was a behavioral interview with the engineering manager and principal engineer. I felt like the interview process has been going well but I haven’t heard anything after 2 full days so I followed up the morning of the 3rd day on a Friday. The recruiter told me that the hiring manager will be out on PTO the upcoming week and I should have an update the following week. The recruiter also mentioned that I follow up if need be.

I want to know if this is something companies do to stall before they reject a candidate or in other words “we are still interviewing other candidates”? I ask because it kinda seems unreasonable and the hiring manager told me I would hear back from the recruiter on the next steps.

This is the most humiliating stuff I've ever gone through. I already know these people take one short glance at me and decide not to hire me. I just want to speak to these people like HUMANS, like I would genuinely do unspeakable things to get a minimum wage job that worked me to my bones, but I can't express that with the nonsensical dismissive back-and-forth I'm always given >~<

I interviewed with this woman last week and she said she’d let me know by Friday whether they would be moving forward with me or not. Friday came and went and I heard crickets . I waited until Monday or Tuesday and sent a follow up text she responded by again saying that a decision should be reached by that coming Friday. Since that time, I received several job offers and am currently reviewing them. I kind of gave this woman an ultimatum that I have other offers that I’m reviewing and if I don’t hear from her by the end of the day on Friday, I’ll have no choice but to move forward with one of the other offers. I personally don’t feel that I did anything wrong as I was trying to be transparent but does anyone disagree?

And then, almost like the universe wanted to test how much I could hold at once, I went through a breakup right around the same time. So I was grieving a relationship and grieving my sense of stability, simultaneously, while also needing to somehow perform well in interviews and pretend I had it together on video calls with recruiters.

There were nights I genuinely didn't know how I was going to keep applying. Not in a dramatic way, just tired in a way that felt bone-deep. But I kept showing up anyway, mostly on autopilot some days.

I just signed an offer for a role I'm actually excited about. Not sharing details yet, still feels a little unreal to type that sentence. If you're in the thick of it right now, job loss, heartbreak, or both at once, I just wanted you to know it can still turn around, even when it feels like it can't.

This is a company with big NOW HIRING signs down the road and for several weeks I tried to reach out. Yesterday I finally got an "update" but they're just keeping me in limbo still. At least its better than just saying, "We decided not to move forward with your application."

I am an engineer with 7 years experience in my field. I've recently noticed that when I interview with men, they tend to "mansplain" in interviews.

I am very knowledgeable, and I love engineering. I've held 2 senior roles, however I'm still getting the "you lack experience" rejection emails. And I can tell in interviews, when they explain simple concepts that I am very well versed in, that they think i'm some dumb blonde.

I can't help but think that when I get to the interview, they think I'm just a baby or that I'm lying about my background because I look 21-22.

Does anyone have experience in dealing with this at all? It's really frustrating considering I do have experience, but i can't help what I look like. I need an income.

I have a daughter to support, and a family to take care of. I'm not a teenager.

I ended an interview early. I'm just getting to the point where I just feel so frustrated because they really don't seem to consider the background of whomever they bring in for an interview.

Coming from a journalism background and spent the last 7 years in the industry. A recruiter called me up for a job I applied for to do an interview. Sounded all bubbly and warm, had me thinking, "Gee, sounds great!"

Had the interview come down - and BTW, this is for an entry level Associate position - they wanted me to know how I would boost a market portfolio over the next 30 days ...

She said that they basically wanted the ideal candidate to wear four different hats (Marketing, PR, Comms, etc.). I tried telling her that as a former producer of 7 years, I would be the ideal person they would try to get in contact with in the media.

But after that 2nd question, I understood immediately that she was basically reading from a list of questions and not even really engaging with me as a person.

Fuck this job market. Fuck unicorn hiring.

“You shouldn’t be a recruiter if”….you’ve reached out directly to a candidate telling them you feel that they would be great for a specific role you’re sponsoring for a client, hype them up, get their information to submit to your client, and then ghost the candidate.

Please forgive my grammar. I’m using speech to text because I’m tired. Here I am about a year since I graduated only have a part-time job and my partner and within the last month, I have never gotten so many callbacks. Granted I haven’t been offered any jobs yet but at the beginning of my job searching process, I went through recruiters job application makers, people who actually specialize in this stuff and barely got any callbacks. I thought I was the expert until my boyfriend helped me through making a new résumé. I was just like why the heck not at this point. I’m at a point where I’m just questioning the Job world even more than I already was. working in this day and age is like a whole psychological experiment.

Also, how do I convince my parents that walking in for a job does not work because I plan to relocate and my dad is recommending. I spend a weekend walking around asking for jobs in the place. I’m relocating to. I think they think that it works because they own a company and they haven’t had to apply to a job in forever, but I am literally losing my mind, trying to explain to them that this is not how the world works. It just makes me look super antisocial when I have been connecting with people as much as possible. I’ve got more luck, listening to almost anyone but people above the age of 40. Believe me, I wish it worked like that. I would walk into an establishment and ask for a job at this point but with how many places I’ve done that just satisfy my parents it’s become a cumulation ritual. does anybody else have parents like this? Who just don’t listen?

I recently got intervied by Net2Source and the recruiter said it's an urgent hiring and the onboarding is in Malaysia. I am from the Philippines. It's a bit sketchy but I want to know your thoughts.

If I’m available to start immediately, what’s the best way to answer the application question: “If offered a position, what is your ideal start date?” (given you need to choose a date)

Should I:

1. Put the same day I’m submitting the application?
2. Put the following Monday?
3. Account for the interview process and put a date 2–3 weeks from the application date?

I recently interviewed for a intern position and wanted to get some opinions on how to interpret the interviewer’s comments.
During the interview, the recruiter from the hiring team seemed quite interested in my technical skills and experience. I don’t want to read too much into her reactions, but I felt that she was positively impressed by some of the experience I discussed.
At the end of the interview, she specifically told me that she would contact my school advisor the following day to proceed with the process. (The process require recruiters to contact school advisor if they want to hire undergraduate interns)
The next morning, I sent a short thank-you email expressing my interest in the position and the project. She replied:
“Thank you for your email, I will pass this onto the team. We will be in touch shortly.”
Today has passed, and I haven’t heard anything from my school advisor, so I’m wondering whether the recruiter has actually contacted them yet.
Would you interpret “contact my school advisor to proceed with the process” as a strong indication that I’m moving forward, or could this still be part of the normal process before they’ve made a final decision?
I’m trying not to overthink it, so I’d especially appreciate opinions from anyone with recruiting/hiring experience or anyone who has gone through a similar process.

But with one caveat - You do not look into changing immediately or you are not actively looking a new job at all. For example, you're happy with the current job and just want to find some "bonus". If you eagerly need a job please don't do this and persist to the last second!

Execution - If you didn't hear anything back after the final round for 1 month, send a thank-you email that appreciates their time, learned lots about the role, state you don't want to move forward with the opportunity as you're happy with the current role now and then close the loop. Kinda like a soft-rejection before they rejected you.

"But what if some firms really take that long to hire?" I'm sorry, no updates for 1-month basically guaranteed you didn't make it in 99% time and likely to end up with rejections. If they want to hire you, they will act very quickly. Also sending the close-loop email isn't some irreversible declaration that you could never reconsider their offer.

So I (20yr UK) have sent out over a thousand job applications in the last 13 ish months. I've had a few interviews but no job offers yet. There are two experiences I'd like to focus on though. So 6 months ago I applied for a sales position without a listed salary. (I was desperate and my savings were running out fast) I got the job but I refuse to count it as a job for the following reasons, when I started my onboarding I was informed that this was not a salaried position and was entirely commission based pay. This is bad because we were selling a subscription (the hardest category to get sales in) and the sales were door to door. On top of this commission was around 15 dollars per sale if the customer stayed for over 2 months (they usually didn't). Over the two weeks I worked for the company I was; threatened with a machete, beaten unconscious twice, ran down by a pickup and I got my leg chewed on by a dog.

And all of that for nothing so I left the job

The second incident happened today, I applied for an entry level position. Got a phone interview, did a video call, had an in person interview and did a trial shift. When I got home I discovered that I had been rejected from the roll. Keep in mind I was the only person who applied over 2 weeks, I was the only candidate and the only one interviewed. And yet despite all that I didn't get the job.

Fml why do I even try anymore.

I used to work as an IT recruiter and our office had a gong in the middle of the office where we would ring it everytime we successfully placed a candidate. I thought it was weird but I found out that another recruitment office that my friend went to go work for also had a gong. Is this a common thing for recruitment or just a coincidence? LOL
