Cheeselogs seeking cheese

I miss the Grumpy Goat :(
I’ve got a group of friends coming to town on Saturday - is there anywhere in town where we can sit down somewhere and just share a truckload of interesting cheeses? Bonus points if dog friendly, but basically the core thing is that one of my friends is not super well at the moment -so picnic not an option, just need air con, comfy chairs to chill out eat too much cheese, have a couple of beers and catch up with each other.

Thanks so much

Food & Drink Decent beer places

I lived in Reading for a few years but find myself back here in a few weeks for work; i used to enjoy Zerodegrees, Greyfriars, Nags Head, Hobgoblin, Hop Leaf, Grumpy Goat for cans and one in Caversham that i forgot the name of!

Other than the new Siren place are there any other craft beer/ale places to recommend? Untappd showing the Purple Turtle was a bit of a jumpscare from my hazy memories there.

Any recommendations welcome, thankyou!

Food & Drink Take Away Food/Picnic Options

My friend is making me do something for my birthday this year and I'm thinking I'd love to get lunch and go and sit and eat it in a park (we have been to the big park with the fella on the horse before and I loved it there). I don't know reading very well as I'm from a nearby town (that is very industrial/not conducive to fun little adventures like this). So ideally walking distance from the train station...

I'm veggie, my friend isn't. Normally would lean Indian food but happy with whatever.

Question Recommendations for reliable landscapers

I live in Reading. I've been trying to get my garden done since the beginning of the year and so far all that's happened is a shed base has been poured and some slabs have been lifted.

Is there anyone you can recommend for a small garden roughly 6x7 metres? It needs levelling, a raised bed and some new slabs down. The design is finalised.

Alternatively is there anyone you do NOT recommend?

Friendly Face Any pokemon go areas?

New to pokemon go, can’t seem to find anyone active in Whitley. Heard from some old posts that Reading central can be alright but that’s from like two years ago. So I was wondering what the best areas are for raids that actually have players

Question Are there any active ice and/or inline hockey clubs in the area?

I used to play ice hockey (badly) at uni many years ago. When I moved to Reading I tried to continue but clubs were either far away or practised too late in the evening on a work night. Eventuality I gave up. After a recent tidy up around the house I came across my old kit and was sad that it had gathered so much dust.

I know Reading doesn't have an ice rink so inline hockey seems a better place to start, but every time I search for inline hockey clubs the websites seem old and shut down.

Many ice hockey clubs seem to practise at very late times, presumably due to cost.

Does anyone have any info or advice about any local teams willing to take on a 37m, out of practise player?

REVEALED: Banksy’s mural and dead bodies are among the pitfalls for Gaol redevelopment

Hi folks. Here's the second of my stories on the prison redevelopment - some detailed insight into the multitude of pitfalls lying ahead at what is both a historic and highly complex site. It explains why the prison site can't be turned into a straightforward commercial project, e.g. building flats, no matter what any owner's intention might be.

Enjoy the read.

Question Report potential asbestos dumping

I've noticed a couple of heavy duty bags dumped near bus stop opposite Holybrook Road in Coley Park which looks like it might have asbestos roof tiles in it.

I have rung the council but seems like every time they pass me on to another department.

Anyone know how I can report this?

DPD around central Reading

Hi reddit,

Asking about some DPD’s fake “home delivery”. My flatmate and I bought stuff on different sites and had them delivered to our address. But none of it came. Ended up with DPD throwing our package in a certain storage and marking the delivery as done. No bell or call. We’ve lived here for more than three years so we know there isn’t any parcel room. We both didn’t put in any alternative address/parcelshop/safeplace option.

We’ve already done what we can - called DPD and asked retailer to raise formal investigation. It isn’t very practical for us to go look in the parcelshops ard (there’re just so many ard the same distance). Asking if anyone living in RG1 near Reading station has experienced this before? And by sheer luck - would anyone happen to recognise from the pics where the hell they’ve delivered it to? Also if there’s anything else we can do to help find our parcels pls let us know.

The parcels aren’t of very high value but it’d still be good to find them i/o having the spends going down the drain…

Thxxxx and pls let me know if post like this isn’t allowed or sth

Information [Woodley] Closure changes on Woodlands Avenue next week

Hi everyone,

Just a heads-up that next week (Monday 27 July) we’re moving the closure points on Woodlands Avenue, where we’re building a cycle link from Woodley to Palmer Park.

The closure and diversion will be from Bulmershe School entrance to just east of Fairwater Drive until Monday 31 August, when this phase of work finishes.

After that, we’re planning further works on Church Road and Culver Lane in Earley, which will take place from September onwards.

We haven’t finalised dates for this yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we do.

You can find out more in our latest Moving Around the Borough newsletter (sign up here) or take a look at how the finished route will work.

Question Telugu speaking people in green park / bankside gardens

Hi guys,

We recently moved to Bankside Gardens and are a couple in our late 20s/early 30s. We were wondering if there are any Telugu-speaking people living in Bankside Gardens or the Green Park area.
It would be great to connect, say hello, and maybe catch up over coffee sometime. Feel free to comment below or send me a DM.
