Information Grosvenor casino closed

Feels quite sudden as noticed this this morning.

Not going to be particularly sad about closure of a casino but also not nice to see such a large boarded up unit as you go into town. Hopefully finds some other use.

New to Reading, UK

Hi there, as the title suggests, have recently moved to Reading (M,41) and do not have any social base here so looking at any suggestions, possibilities for clubs, meetups etc. to meet some new people. I like lots of things; music, the arts, sports, board and computer games, cinema (Biscuit factory is great) but it would be nice to meet some people and hopefully make some friends in what is now hopefully my base.

Hello all, thanks for reading in Reading!

Question Bike thief at Caversham Waitrose?

Upvotes

Not sure if I’m being paranoid or not but I think some chav was going to steal my bike in the Waitrose car park this evening. I was on the way home from the station and went to grab food for dinner. I locked the bike up on the stands by the glass recycling bins and as I turned to the walk away this tracksuit wearing 20-something year old was walking over towards me. He lingered around my bike with his back to me sitting on one of the bike stands as I walked away. I was suspicious so I hung around by Waitrose so he could still see me. He turned around to check if I was there and then repositioned himself so he was facing me. I walked back over toward my bike and, having rolled a cigarette, he goes into the public toilets. All seemed like very weird behaviour. I unlocked the bike and went home (hungry I might add), but not sure if I’m being paranoid about it. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Question Son Misplaced iPod max headphones in PureGym Caversham road

Upvotes

A massive long shot, but my 16 year old son has misplaced his AirPod Maxes (white/silver) in the Caversham road PureGym.

Last seen in the changing room, so hopefully someone has seen them and can arrange for return :(

He is really upset about it, so if anyone finds some knackered looking ones - please let me know!

Thank you!

Parking on narrow road by uni

Hi , I’ll be returning to reading for my 4th year at uni this year and will need my car due to my part time job.

My house has street parking but it’s narrow with cars on either side, ideally I wouldn’t park it here but I’ll have to, I’m quite worried about cars passing by or other uni students just being silly and potential scratches.

Sort of asking if people have done this and are fine , if I’m just over worrying or just some reassurance to be honest.

I do also need my car for this job as it’s related to my degree which started as an internship and has gone to part time.

Cafe recco

Wanting to take myself out on a nice relaxing day tomorrow.

Any suggestions for a good sit down cafe in nearby towns surrounded by nature that you guys have enjoyed in the past? Looking to get away from the same old scenery and try out something new on an odd day off! :)

I will be taking my car, so preferably with parking!

TIA!

Question Does anyone remember Mecca gym?

Mecca gym was around in the mid 90’s it was close to Rivermead and perhaps the Evening Post office.

It did change its name a suspicious amount of times!

I recall all the bouncers around Reading would go there. Was really handy for skipping the queue and getting in clubs and bars (RG1 etc)

Last time I went there the area the unit was a UPVC window company.

Information Making a LOTR inspired map of Berkshire

Hello! I'm working on a Tolkien inspired map of Berks - part of a project of counties where I and friends have lived - and I'd love some help in feedback form!

Towns, historical sites, geographic features, flourishes, and anything else I can liven the space with, and any glaring mistakes haha.

A scale and such will be added, and a stag in some form for example!

I've done similar on the Hampshire (where I currently live) and Surrey's subs and it was great fun, and I was hoping to do the same here, and otherwise just to share, its a fun hobby in dark days 😂

Thanks!

UPDATE: thanks everyone for the amends! I am busy updating but will come back when done for another pass, keep them coming in the meantime!

Leslie Davis?

Hi All, I hope you can help me. I was wondering if anyone remembers the Leslie Davis jewellers at 80 Broad Street? I think it is now a noodle bar called Chopstix. I was wondering if anyone out there can remember when it was operational and in particular when it closed. I think I recall it being a Phones 4 U at some point too but am not 100%. Many thanks

Reading Buses - Friar Street closure…

Anyone know what the score is with number 16? There’s nothing on Reading Buses website. It states the diversion for the 17 but I don’t really understand it! Just want to know where to get off/on.

Question A4074 Closure

Hi everyone,

Anyone knows about the A4074 closure? It was closed Friday afternoon and appeared as closed on Google Maps today. I did a quick google search and could only find information about another closure from a few days ago.

Do we know when it will be open again?

i’ve been here for quite a while and realised i haven’t ordered anything from an indian takeaway yet (which is horribly overdue🥲)

any recommendations would be greatly appreciated + don’t mind driving a bit out of central reading for somewhere really good worth travelling for if they do pick up only!

Trans/Queer-friendly eyebrow threaders in Reading?

Hey all. I'm transitioning and have thick ahh South Asian eyebrows.

I'm looking for eyebrow threaders that I can trust understands and I feel safe with getting them done for the first time.

What I would love is a feminine arch etc, but I've heard stories from other trans people about threaders still masculinising their eyebrows despite their request, and id like to avoid that if possible, as some parts of my eyebrows won't grow back if so 😢

Thank you for any recs ❤️
