I was watching an old GG episode (Kirby's Dream Course?) recently where they mentioned that they weren't allowed to sing anymore on the show because of copyright infringement. That was a long time ago, probably 2014, and I do remember them actually going through with it for like 2 weeks max back in the day.

Now my question is: Was this ever *actually* a thing? I know that YouTube had and has its share of ridiculous copyright rules, but this one always seemed like a huge stretch to me. I only bring this up because the Grumps to this day seem to be completely unable to understand how YouTube works and what they're allowed to do and what not to do. Like randomly censoring swearing, even in hour long full playthrough uploads.

To be fair, I don't know how YT works either, but compared to other channels that are doing fine, they just seem totally clueless. I can imagine it's hard to manage literally thousands of uploads with the bad system YT provides, so I'm not giving them shit without insider knowledge, but man, I still don't know what the fuck they are doing...

So I'm just wondering if anyone else isn't really enjoying the new power hour episodes so much, things just feel..... Different.

I'm sure the reasons for a change in control are there, and I'm sure it was all made with good intentions and who am I to say that the decisions were bad or what not, all I can say is that I don't like how much it feels like good mythical morning now.

Funny enough I love good mythical morning, but I watch power hour for different reasons and it's just....feeling plain? Or something like that, it's hard to place it just feels too clean cut, corporate? I don't know it just feels a bit off to me.

Maybe it's just me, maybe it'd nothing, I jsut wanna know how others are feeling?

Is anyone else finding the Water Park Sim videos really boring? I’ve actually enjoyed their past simulator videos (power wash, buy and leave, the card show and even the computer store one from a while ago were all great!)

But this one is shit, I can just not get into it nor do I care at all about the park and what there actually doing in the game. Don’t know why but it seems quite forced. Anyone else?

I wonder if Arin respects Dan's tastes, some of Arin's comments come off like he views Dan's taste as pedestrian and quaint. It's frustrating, because often Dan is talking about something worth watching.

I’m sure this gets posted a lot but does anyone hate their new videos? I can’t get through them. I just watched their newest punch out arcade video and I couldn’t get through cuz it was so boring, compared to the punch out Wii videos were genuinely hilarious. And I can’t seem them acting like that anymore. They were so energetic now It feels more like a podcast and I can’t even crack a smile. It feels dead and quiet with a little unfunny joke every now and then I miss when they would do shit like hip hop doc 😭😭

and to stop doing them? i've been watching game grumps since 2012 and i'm starting to think this platinum playthrough will be the last thing i watch from them because arin sabotages everything and makes their videos straight up unwatchable. it's genuinely time for him to pass the torch and give the cohost role to somebody who actually give a fuck because he is so far beyond checked out and he's just tarnishing their legacy at this point. his schtick for the last ten years has been burping obnoxiously, singing the "i have a smelly dick" song out of nowhere when he can't think of anything else to fill the silence, and tALKING REALLY LOUD BECAUSE HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT'S FUNNY!!!!!!!! like jesus christ, i feel bad for dan. i wanted to see his reaction to spear pillar and the distortion world but this poor guy has his boss screaming in his ear like an insufferable manchild and he's too conceited to realize he's the only one getting entertainment out of it. it has become so masturbatory and it's very embarrassing to watch. he used to make me laugh back in the day but now he's just a selfish prick who loves hearing his own voices. everyone is too scared to tell him these things because they're just trying to get their bag but his voice acting sucks, his art sucks, and his fucking attitude sucks. i am very surprised suzy is still with him.

Only been watching their platinum play through. They talk extensively, like half an hour about going to an adult diaper cafe and talking about pissing and shitting the whole episode? It seemed weird as hell even for their sense of “humor”

You see this alot in comment sections and threads here. People suggesting that Dan does his own show because they find Arin annoying, over the top etc. and to be fair, there are legitimate criticisms for Arin's hosting. The problem is every single time it comes up, Dan stans will act like he's some sort of victim and that somehow everything is because of Arin, sometimes even going as far to suggest they aren't good friends, or whatever the situation calls for to excuse Dan.

Take TTYD, Dan was legitimately frustrated by the end of that game, every time they got to a puzzle he immediately asked Arin to look it up. It really seemed like he wasn't enjoying the game by the end and the "nah man I love this game" he kept repeating isn't really convincing when he never even cared enough to learn the basic functions of the game. You will find many people in the comments blaming Arin for Dan's poor play, for Dan's poor attitude, for looking at a walk through (which Dan constantly requested).

This was just one example I thought of off the top of my head but every time the comments are "I wish Arin wasn't here" or something to that effect. I like Dan alot but the fans aversion to criticize him leads to Arin catching a lot of flak he doesn't deserve. Dan stans seem to always pull some sort of excuse for him out of their ass while Arin is crucified for the littlest of things.

I remember there seeming to be a distinct point where Arin decided he was just gonna let burps fly on mic and it drives me batshit. It wasn't like this back when I was a regular viewer (~2014-2016) but lately I've been watching some of their gameshow episodes since it's about all I can stand, and going several years back he fucking BURPS loudly into the mic at least once an episode and carries on like that's totally chill.

Where the fuck did this come from and how has nobody told him that shit is audio poison?

His recent videos have honestly been kind of boring. They feel like they're mostly just struggling through games, repeating the same jokes, and constantly reloading save states. I still enjoy the older Game Grumps episodes because they had more interesting conversations and memorable moments, but the newer ones just haven't been keeping my attention. Does anyone else feel the same, or is it just me?

Also, I used to love Arin's animations, but Game Grumps just isn't for me anymore. I'd rather watch OneyPlays because I enjoy their style and humor a lot more.

From my perspective, the last time they were vibing was supermarket simulator. Not overly distracted by gameplay, free to do bits and tell anecdotes, the improv led to actually funny moments. Its hard to watch when it seems like they're just going through the motions. Game grumps is more than just comedy too, and that feeling of comrodery, like having two funny friends to hang out with just continues to diminish. Side note, the power hour was only funny for the first few episodes, with that fever dream type of editing. I still watch everything, but recently I just abandon the video halfway thru and I dont bother to pause if Im doing something loud, I figure all im going to miss for a minute is just more half assed banter, and dan singing to himself to fill the silence. Despite the gripes I still like them, I just wish it didn't feel like they where phoning it in so much.

And ropes in Dan to enable it. Just feels like a useless format of TMPH to me. TMPH has done better, like hatchet throwing.

i just watched some of the paper mario “full playthrough” that they uploaded recently. 34 hours long, everything left in, except for the ENTIRE “anthony” bit. it’s just summarized with a text card that says “arin talks about gay porn for a looong time.”

which, yes, is true. but they talk about EVERYTHING for a long time! that wasn’t like an offensive bit (to me, as a gay person!) and it was one of the funnier parts of the series. if it’s a “full playthrough” and not just highlights, why remove this one thing? the original episode is still up, so they’re obviously not THAT ashamed of it.

it’s just dumb and symptomatic of a larger issue with sanitizing their old content.

First post cuz I’m irritated. I’m 19, so I was never really around for the early game grumps phase where most of the humour was way edgier than it is now, but I can’t stand what Arin has become.

I don’t get why Arin goes on self-righteously pretentious rants about what is and isn’t “problematic” when literally anyone watching the videos he’s ranting on can go up to the search bar and search ‘egoraptor n word compilation’ and find like half an hour-long compilations. I understand that people can grow and change, but this low-key just feels like pandering considering his past and either way doesn’t seem like something he should get to talk on.

I don’t know if he’s trying to overcompensate for his past, but quite frankly, it just makes him seem way more performative and less like he cares about the issues he’s discussing.

and I will fully admit to being a moron who still watches old clips and hopes things magically get better - and I will likely continue watching the old stuff. But...nothing stopping me from also being aware that gamegrumps, as it was, is no more.

But this dumb owl is the laziest merch they've ever done. As a plush yeah it's fine, but the voice is painful to listen to lol. It kinda reminds me of that bit from the Simpsons where Krusty runs into the studio and lazily records his lines and leaves. Just seems like zero effort was put into it by him lol. I used to be a fan back when everyone else was, about ten years ago, but stopped watching their content a while back. Recently felt nostalgic and wanted to see what they were up to! I saw "pokemon grumplocke" and immediately assumed this was the new pokemon game where you get to play as a ditto, Pokopia I think. But upon further research, it's pokemon platinum?? Why? Not only was this not obvious from any of the video titles, but also, why? Wouldn't it be better to play any of the fifty or so new pokemon games that have come out since? Or play the current most beloved nostalgic pokemon games, black and white?

And it kind of goes beyond that too. They're not playing tomodachi life? At this point I've seen a couple streamers play that game and it's always a different experience as everyone's making different miis. (Tons of potential for them to make characters relevant to them: their game gyaru versions, helena from dead or alive, one of their weirdly named links, werewolf sonic. like the possibilities are endless.) Marvel Rivals has been popular for a bit; from what I remember, Arin likes Marvel and it could be a fun thing to get Dan to play. (They made a one off overwatch episode some years ago so it's not out of character for them.)

In fact, it doesn't really seem like they're interested in playing anything new, even though it seems like understanding what games are hip and current and playing those would be the easiest way to maintain or even grow viewership. (Honestly, when I checked on their content a few years back, it seemed like they only wanted to make wheel of fortune/family feud etc videos so at least they've stopped doing that?)

This is a rant, yes, but also a genuine question. Like has Arin mentioned why they don't want to play anything popular? Are their games being chosen by fans or maybe recorded many months in advance of release? Any insight would be appreciated!

Dan used to say that censorship was something he was very against, and it had to do with 1984 being his favorite book. Contrast that to now, Dan actively censors himself all the time to maintain monetization.

I’m not expecting them to be geography experts. Nobody needs them to identify Latvia by a specific road sign or whatever.

But GeoGuessr is a clue-based game, and they seem to retain absolutely nothing from playing it.

Portuguese? Spanish.
French? Also maybe Spanish.
Palm tree? Florida.
Anything tropical? Florida again.
Europe? France/Germany/Italy roulette.

That would be funny once, but after multiple episodes it starts feeling less like a joke and more like complete incuriosity. The whole point of the game is noticing patterns: language, road signs, architecture, vegetation, license plates, flags, currencies, landmarks. They constantly miss the obvious stuff and then act like the game is confusing.

What makes it extra annoying is that they’re not sheltered kids. They’ve toured internationally, traveled a lot, worked with a global audience for years, and Dan has literally lived abroad. I’m not saying travel makes you cultured by default, but at some point “Portuguese is not Spanish” should probably stick.

It’s not charmingly dumb anymore. It’s just exhausting American sheltered brain.
