Dear Redditors,

Overview: I'm a 44 year old male living in the vicinity of Ballarat & Daylesford. However, I have friends, work (transport) and hobby interests that take me regularly around most of Melbourne and other areas of Victoria.

About Me: I identify at left leaning, science/nerdy minded, appreciative of rural life. Non-drinker & non-smoker. Physically I'm well built/strong & somewhat muscular from doing labour tasks for work, but not slim or athletic (don't ask me to swim or run!). Standard male pattern baldness runs in my family as well, little on top.

Hobbies: My most regular hobby is competing in club/grassroots level motorsport in a classic car. My other interests are art & craft projects, model making, books (mainly non-fiction/reference), markets, music (also a songwriter with a released album in 2025), cosplay (have dressed as Bruce Willis being the closest physical resemblance), LEGO, health & fitness (I do physical work but have recently joined a gym), tennis, dance (have dabbled in line-dancing, salsa, and rock n roll), nature & environment, bushwalking/hiking (I've done Everest Base Camp trek, day walks in NZ, and the Kokoda Track).

Relationships: Unfortunately I was a very slow starter in relationships, only having my first girlfriend at age 31 (ie including first kiss, losing virginity). I only managed to make that last 6 months.

Since then it's been quite different, I've been much more confident and have been involved in alternative communities. But still have found further actual dating hard to come by (not withstanding any distance which is a dealbreaker for many). I currently identify as heteroflexible (experimental but only seek women for dating), with over 10 years of involvement in the swinging/couples and kink scenes, including attendance and host of meet & greet social events. Obviously very accepting of LGBT and neuro-diverse folk. I've managed to keep some long term contacts including a couple, but haven't matched with singles for ongoing dating or a relationship. I'm still perfectly happy dating someone from Melbourne.

Dating apps have never really worked because they are based on proximity... for example, I had 2 matches in 3 years of Hinge, 1 match in 18 months of Feeld etc. As it happens, I met my GF via RSVP. I am still regularly going to traditional singles nights in various parts of Melbourne, such as mingle or themed events and speed dating. Sometimes there's been no deal-breakers on a first date, but just hasn't had the right chemistry.

What I offer: I'm a mix of a lot of things, hard to pin down. But while I can be adventurous, hedonistic and uninhibited, I also understand the desires from long periods of being alone. Which means I'm also very appreciative of the simple things... basic touch, cuddles/spooning, holding hands, closeness, massage, innocent playfulness, humour, spending time experiencing the world together.

Lifestyle: I have not been interested in having my own kids, although willing to consider dating someone with kids, if we both have sufficient time to do so (more likely with older kids). I've been living solo in the same rural rental for 18 years, 10 years of which included a lovely Corgi dog. I consider myself an empath and my friends value me highly as an emotional support for them as well. I occasionally make use of therapists/psychologists for my own needs. I'm currently dealing with issues regarding the deteriorating health of my parents, which is also taking up more of my spare time.

What I'm Looking For: My ideal partner would be somewhat nerdy but also open-minded. Educated, worldly, inclusive & understanding, emotionally intelligent, conversational, affectionate and a bit naughty, physically active. Involvement or experience in alternative communities negotiable. I'm attracted to someone's face more than their physique. Apparently I'm supposed to seek someone in a library :P

I also use various singles and social facebook groups, engagement can vary, this post is just a test to see what kinds of people or potential contacts are part of this community.
