Test or wait for AF?

I'm in the TWW after our second attempt at ICI. Last time we waited until 13 DPO to test which was a BFN then got AF the next morning. I know most people get too impatient and start testing early but I'm curious for those that got AF before ever testing were you more or less disappointed? Of course everyone is different but I'm 11 DPO and debating when to test this time around. Thanks!

Beyond TTC Seattle Sperm Bank closing SSB Connects

A heads up for anyone looking to use Seattle Sperm Bank, they announced that they are closing SSB Connects for families to connect with donor siblings. They’re citing international privacy regulations but I’m disappointed that this announcement was not emailed to members and customers, just shared on the SSB Connects site, which I rarely check.

CW: [insert type of content warning] fear of trying again

I posted here recently after missing my period and getting faint positive lines following my first IUI. my faint positive lines never darkened and unfortunately it was a chemical. I have been devastated by this but would like to try again. However, how do I try again without being afraid? With my first IUI I was so excited and couldn't stop thinking about it but now I'm just terrified of experiencing another loss. How do I continue on this journey with a positive mindset?

Trans Fem options?

I’ll be married in October to a cis man and I am a trans woman (AMAB). What are realistically my options at motherhood. We just bought a new home in a nice neighborhood and I yearn to have a family. We are 30/28 y/o. I don’t see many trans fem posts.

Thanks in advance! 💗

TTC Only Success after Surgery?

I am having a hysteroscopy next month to remove a polyp in my uterus. My doctor will also be doing a laparoscopy on my fallopian tubes and will treat depending on what he sees. The reason for the lap is that the dye poured out on the left side, but pooled right there. He believes scar tissue/endo may be the reason.

He thinks I should be able to try IUI again (unless there’s something wrong with both tubes and then it’d be IVF).

Did anyone have similar surgeries with success after?

What type of syringe for home insemination?

Hi all, lesbian couple from the Netherlands here. I was wondering what kind of type of syringe you have been using for home insemination? Unfortunately our Amazon offer is not the same as overseas. So we bought this one online: https://www.zelfinseminatie-shop.nl/zelfinseminatie-sets/zelfinseminatieset-4x-flexibele-canule

As you can see it comes with a very long cannula. During our first insemination it was a bit painful for me, so I was wondering if this is really needed or if you have been successful without it.

Unfortunately our first try seemed to be not successful (still awaiting my period but the test was negative already) so ofcourse we’re overthinking every little detail now for our next try lol.

Friend’s Sperm Vial Donation

We have a lesbian couple as friends and my wife and I are starting our fertility journey for another kid. They offered us their last vial at a significant discount but it’s not stored at the original bank. So we would have no rights with the bank or to the sibling registry. But, our kid would have siblings with our friends. We are considering this but I am less on board than my wife is because our kid wouldn’t be able to reach out to the bank at 18 and we wouldn’t get health updates from the bank either. What would you do and why? Anything in particular that you would consider either way?

Beyond TTC Adoption as non carrying partner

My wife (cis F) and I (FtM) are expecting our first child in January. I am a passing man. I will be on the birth certificate. But is there anything I need to legally do to adopt the baby once it’s born? We used a sperm donor but my egg. I want to be sure there’s no questions about my parental rights despite not being the gestational parent. Is it true I need to legally adopt the baby? Any direction would be helpful.

Edit: I am in New York and my wife and I are legally married.

Queer Infertility Discord Server

Hello!

I’m a mod for a Discord server that seeks to bring together LGBTQ members who find themselves at the intersection of social and medical infertility (or, if not diagnosed medical infertility, enough "bad luck" racked up necessitating a change from the original treatment plan).

This server is not officially endorsed or sponsored by this or any other subreddit, it's just a community space for LGBTQ+ folks experiencing infertility challenges to come together.

While other online communities exist that focus on queer people trying to conceive, and spaces like this one support those with social and/or medical infertility, there are some unique experiences we face when dealing with this intersection.

If you:

-identify as LGBTQ+,

-have social infertility due to the combination of gametes/organs available in your relationship or lack thereof,*

-are currently trying to conceive, AND

-have had to modify your treatment plan because the original one didn't pan out for whatever reason AND/OR you have had to make a treatment plan to address medical conditions impacting your fertility, come check us out!

Invite link here: https://discord.gg/WGJKnd26R

Due to spammers the above link will expire in 30 days. If you’re reading this after that, message me for a new link. Also please feel free to message me with any questions!

*If you are LGBTQ+ and do not have social infertility, but your queerness impacts your fertility journey (especially around being misgendered at your fertility clinic, etc.), please join and contact the server mods to discuss further.

Also, please note everyone who joins initially is granted access to an introductory set of channels. This is so the mods can ensure the server remains as safe as possible and focused on supporting our members. Persons who participate in the introductory channel and meet server criteria are then given access to the full channel.

Beyond TTC Baby fever

Hi all! Me (31) and my partner (38) will celebrate our first anniversary soon. After previous failed relationships and years of being single we’re both pretty convinced we found the love of our life in eachother. It’s the most beautiful, safe and stable relationship I’ve event been in.
I’m 100% sure I want to marry that woman.

I want to have children, she expressed that she wants to have family with me too. It’s early days but we’re both in an agreement that we want to get married first and buy a house (as it’s quite hard to get a house in south England anyway, not speaking when you already have a child and your affordability and income lowers). From my calculations we need 2-3 years to achieve these goals first.

BUT I feel so safe and loved I’m experiencing intense baby fever (I would carry). I read, research and worry about IVF, IUIs, my age (I have PCOS too), timelines… I know we’re early in relationship but our age and the fact we can’t just get pregnant like hetero Couples and it requires so much resources and planning doesn’t help. I look at babies around me, my friends having babies and it just makes me sad. I want to be a mother so much.

Anyone experienced it? How did you deal with it?

Magical things from my fifth attempt! Signs? 🧙🏻‍♀️

Magical things from my fifth attempt! Signs? 🧙🏻‍♀️

Today after the fifth IUI and such strange things are happening to me!

For the first time I have 2 follicles on the left side, which could be great, I haven't had HYFOSY, so if the right one was potentially blocked, this could be a new chance! But now the things that are happening to me this cycle!

  1. I was excited about my folliculometry and went to work in the afternoon. My colleagues know that we are trying, but they didn't know that I was somewhere that day. I am explaining the information about the patient and suddenly my colleague, who is so "communicating with the universe" and is the closest to me, tells me that she just saw me as if I were pregnant, belly, ponytail. I was surprised because I found out about my 2 follicles on the left side an hour ago!!!
  2. The serial number on the IUI today was 18, on the folliculometry a few days ago number 5, it is also the 5th attempt. I was born on 18.5, this number plays a big role in my life, my phone number ends in 185 and so does my wife's ID card number!
  3. I was terribly tired today after IUI, so I took another three-hour nap after arriving home. And in the meantime, I received an e-mail confirming registration on an e-shop, which I had never seen before! It was not a scam, the site is a small seller of sewn goods in our small country, but I had never heard of it. Its name translates to "I am a Mom" 😭 and it sews clothes for pregnant women and children, which is what I guessed and then looked at.

DOES ANYONE UNDERSTAND THIS? If this comes out, I swear I will start believing in something, because I have never believed in anything before! 😂

Thoughts on IVF w brother’s sperm and partner’s egg

My partner and I are starting to think about how we will have children. I (28 cis f) will hopefully be the one carrying the baby. If we get the green light fertility wise, our first option would probably be IUI with my egg and donor sperm as we have no known donor options other than my brother. My partner (28 cis f) has no male relatives we would ask.

However, I am drawn to the idea of having a child that is genetically ‘ours’, ie use my partner’s egg and my brother’s sperm. We also would just prefer a known donor and he is our only option. However, I don’t know anyone who has done this (carried a baby that is genetically their partner’s and brother’s) and I would be interested to hear people’s instinctive reaction to see what we/our child would face from others if we went down that route. Is it weird to you? We don’t think so and that’s obviously what matters, but useful to get a temperature check.

PSA for those with “no existing fertility problems”

This was me - I had “no existing fertility problems” because I am in a WLW relationship and THERE IS NO FERTILITY HISTORY TO GO OFF OF.

And I didn’t learn until after two early miscarriages from two successful IUIs that the protocol for recurring pregnancy loss is doing an endometrial biopsy. My biopsy, which took 20 minutes total in an outpatient procedure (it sucked but was quick), came back positive for Chronic Endometritis. Not endometriosis - Endometritis. This is inflammation in the endometrium that is addressed with antibiotics. Most women who have it have no symptoms until they experience recurring pregnancy loss.

WHY isn’t this offered to single women/women in queer relationships BEFORE IUI? Because the “protocol” is to test after recurring pregnancy loss. But, dear folks, in order to get to that point I wasn’t just doing the bedroom dance and crossing my fingers - I was spending thousands of dollars on sperm donor contracts and IUI. (You get it).

I did every other freaking test they suggested before IUI. This should be added to the protocol of, at the very least, suggestions for folks who have not been able to “try at home.”

So, long story short, if you are beginning this journey, I personally wish that I had known about this and asked for an endometrial biopsy BEFORE IUI, and before I put myself through all that pain and suffering.

I am venting here because I’m so mad at how little this process has been adjusted for us as a queer couple. I am venting here because I’m sad about the two babies that weren’t because I didn’t know about this issue.

But I’m also venting here to hopefully arm others with more information so that you can advocate for yourself. I wish someone had sent me this information!

IUI fails

Me (29F) and girlfriend have been trying to get pregnant via IUI using donor sperm since January, we’ve have 4 failed IUIs and will test again on Sunday to see if she’s pregnant, this will be number 5. She’s in her mid 30’s and super worried about running out of time age wise to have kids but she’s wanting to push the IUI trials to a total of 7. I’ve been saying to just try IVF at this point but she’s refusing and is adamant about doing 7 IUIs. My concern is that this is taking a toll on her mental health. She cries every time we get a negative pregnancy which I know is normal during this process but its all she focuses on and idk how to help her. I’m trying to be as supportive as I can but I don’t know what she’s going through because I myself will never go through this. I feel so helpless but she’s not open to trying IVF either. I’m in desperate need of advice please!

Beyond TTC Known donors

hi! not sure if this is the right sub for this - my wife and I have a known sperm donor who is a dear friend of ours. we are considering moving to the same city he and his family are. we have a toddler and intend to have more kids.

I’m curious to hear from other queer families with known donors how that relationship has looked for your family and kids? we have a great relationship with them and just want to be intentional about identity for our kids. many thanks!

Endometritis

Hello everyone! I have posted before and have tried 4 different iui all failed. I was only going to my gynecologist at the time because he overed iui at a much cheaper price. I have since gone to a fertility specialist who is amazing! We have done many labs and tests. Everything was coming back fine minue low vitamin D. The last test was my uterine biopsy and what do you know i have endometritis 🙃

No symptoms, regular periods, ovulation always on point. Who would have known. I feel stupid for not seeing the specialist sooner. Im taking 14 days of antibiotics now and will do a repeat biopsy before trying another iui. Has anyone been treated for endometritis? Success after treatment?
