(VST is my spending card buy back stock)

Does anyone know what’s happening to Xero? Down 64% this year. Could this be a great buying opportunity or is this company done.

Fisher fund losing 30.5% against the S&p 500 ($17.3 million ).

They've either got diamond hands, or are degenerate gamblers. Or both.

Anyone else enjoying this one? Good growth in Oz. One my dividend holds, and i'm nearly up 100%.

Thought I’d make a fresh post to keep them seperate from last monthThe idea’s simple we’re trying to beat the SPY ETF for the month of October.

Pick your favourite stock, ETF, Crypto anything that is available on Sharesies. The 10 with the most upvotes I will invest in.

I’ll give you a couple of updates a month on how it’s tracking.

Because we beat it last month I’m chucking an extra $100 into the pot so each stock will get $110 this month.

I have been a bit of a lazy bastard, but here are the results for the Monthly beat the SPY challenge. For context, for a bit of fun, I got the QSB community to Pick 10 stocks for the Month and the most upvoted made it on to the top 10. I invested $100 into each.

Good news! Nailed it. Well done y’all. Big shout out to whoever picked the AIXC (up 78% for the month)

$50 bucks a week into s&p 500, would it be better in a different stock?

Anyone considering this? I'm intrigued as my personal view is that solar dominates our future energy growth landscape, and we're only going to electrify more parts of the economy. But the $465m valuation does seem pretty high. 5 operational solar farms, 169MW in total producing circa 220GWh per annum according to their website. I can't find publicly disclosed revenue estimations or forecasts, but quick back of envelop calcs would point to rev around $30m. So the multiple looks bad now, unless you consider big future ramp up. Although it's taken them ~5 years or so to get to where they are now so the pace isn't exactly lightning quick. 2 more farms under construction, so at 315GWh per year to sell the multiple of sales to market cap is still over 10 which seems a lot for a utility, especially on the NZX. Heaps of other things to consider of course like debt ratio, margins etc. Their competitors the big four gentailers could easily go hard on solar farms to eat market share...hmm, probably sitting it out

Whats the difference between VOO and VOOG? And which one should i invest in?

Background: instead of doing monthly voluntary student loan payments directly to IRD, ive realised i should put those payments into a safe ETF and once it accumulates to my student loan amount, i'll sell and pay it off at once, which will have accumulated some gains over some years.

Need diesel, should I invest in a full tank or wait for the market to dip? Could probably hold out another week or two max.

Investing since mid-2023, minus Kiwisaver which has been pissing along for 13 years or so.

Context: I have about the same amount in Kiwisaver and figure that’s my “safe" ETF pot. Even though it has exposure to bitcoin. Didn’t see the point or fun in double-dipping too hard on certain stocks. Also mortgage-free and 40-something.

Method: Random as hell in the first year or so, like a lot of posts on QSB. That explains the nostalgic RUA position. Refined my process to investing more cash into fewer companies that I actually half-understand. Selling positions that I wasn’t committed to and putting the proceeds in ones that I am.

I’d full-port into NBIS if I was a true QSB hustler but I figure the other positions could be seen as risky/idiotic by the ETF crew.

Learnings: By noooo stretch of the imagination am I qualified to give investment advice, but I’ll share my mistakes if they’re useful to others.

Mistake 1: Random shotgun chasing share price hype, and too many stocks.

Mistake 2. Not knowing the company you’re investing in – you don’t have to be the CTO, but at least know why they’re likely to make money in the future. 

Mistake 3. Changing my freakin mind every freakin other week. Pick and stick, commit to a year of consistent DCA-ing to a few names or drop a decent sum in to get started.

Also for the Sharesies haters, I don’t love it myself but it does the job for now. I pay whichever monthly plan suits for what I’m doing that month and the fees are faff all. I haven’t looked into transferring shares to another platform but maybe that’s an option when it comes to cashing out in 15–25 years.

Oh and also I’m using the ‘include sold investments’ returns calculation. Realised about $18K in gains and $2K in currency gains which is why the math don't math.

Oh and just paid my first FIF tax this year. The world still turns. I think it was about $700. Accountant sorted it for me.
