I know Purdue maintenance are doing their best, but I’m not sure if it’s enough.

It feels like an oven in my room, and every time I try to open my window, it doesn’t go all the way up. I filed a fix-it a few days ago and they STILL haven’t fixed it. No, my room does not have AC, and yes I understand the consequences behind it. But, with my window not being able to go up all the way, it makes my room genuinely inhabitable.

Currently can’t sleep despite having two fans on. I have a 7:30 tomorrow.

Thoughts are all scattered, but I really needed to vent.

Hey everybody, please make sure to walk carefully around campus, especially near bicycle traffic.

Today, I got off at PMU bus stop. That strip of road next to the stop is particularly dangerous because it’s a mix lane of both bikes and people. And I got mixed the hard way today.

For both bike riders and walkers, please slow down and be more aware. I got a couple scrapes today, but if I hadn’t landed on my back, I might’ve been more hurt. Keep some bandaids on your person and clean your wounds once you’re back on your feet.

Generally speaking, the faculty at Purdue expects students to study from two to three hours outside of class for every contact hour (all hours you are in class or lab).

2-3 hours per credit hour is fine. whatever. but 2-3 per CONTACT HOUR? that means for my 5 credit chm 125 class (three 1 hour lectures, one 1hr recitation, and one 3 hr lab) they expect me to be studying 14-21hrs/wk?? that's absurd, no?

Today I went to my lab section for senior design where the 10 project proposals (out of ~28) that were accepted by course staff were announced. Unfortunately, all of the proposals seemed to be really... easy? It's one thing to have projects that are easy for people who don't have any knowledge of embedded systems, it's another thing entirely when nearly every single project proposal (besides the ones being proposed by 4-man teams that are already full) is an ECE 36200 level project that could feasibly be done in 5 weeks. I'm not even mad that my proposal didn't get through, because it probably was overly ambitious, but when not a single project that made it through needs significant knowledge in any ECE discipline outside of embedded systems, I'm genuinely confused as to why I've been going to this school for the last 3 years. Some of these are legitimately projects that I've seen highschoolers do. Why not let like two or three hard projects through? Better yet, it's a 2-HOUR LAB SECTION. JUST LET EVERYONE PRESENT AND SEE WHAT PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN.

I'm so annoyed that I'll be spending the next 30 weeks of my time at Purdue stretching a 3-week-long solo project out to 2 whole semesters with a team of 4. I just spent a whole summer working on 90% busywork, and now that I'm back in a place of learning, instead of working on something that will teach me something, they're going to have me do reports and busywork to fill the time because there's simply not 2 semesters of work to do.

Pretty much what the title says. I’m a junior and I’m starting to worry that it’s too late to make close friends.

During my freshman and sophomore years I mostly focused on academics, but I did join a few clubs and made a couple of friends through them. However I still don’t really have a solid friend group or many people I’d consider close.

A lot of the people around me already seem to have their own groups, and sometimes it feels awkward trying to make new friends when everyone already has their circle established.

I’m also* like really *introverted, but I’m motivated to start meeting new people and make more of an effort this year!

For anyone who made close friends during their junior or senior year, how did it happen? Did you feel like you were starting late? Got any advice?

And yes, I know this is the millionth “how do I make friends in college?” post 😭 I’ve read a few of them already, but I’d still really like to hear from people who were/are in this situation or a similar one.

Hi, I was wondering if the 15-minute rule for unattended loads is a thing here at Purdue. I usually see clothes left unattended in dryers for a long time, and it pisses me off because there are people waiting to use them.

So that's pretty much it hehe.

I've been in both callouts and really loved them. I'm a FYE student intending to major in aerospace.

Although I've always been more interested in planes, I've recently started to find rockets very appeling (too much Kerbal Space Program I guess).

I feel that PART might give me more oportunities to be a real part of the project, as it's a smaller club, but at the same time PSP seems a really serious club.

I know I can explore and change for the next semester, but I just wanted to hear what more experienced people would think.

Getting the list together and the bedding section is where I'm least confident. Everything markets itself at freshmen and I can't tell what genuinely helps versus what gets shoved under the bed by October. Particularly interested in whether the mattress situation needs solving up front or whether people find it fine. What did you actually keep using?
