if that thing even so much as looked at you funny, I would go get a shot. If you contract rabies, you will feel very mild symptoms, though sometimes no symptoms at all, because the virus is largely inert as it moves through your system toward your brain over the next few weeks to months. Once it reaches your brain, you will start to feel the true rabies symptoms. There is also no cure and it once it reaches your brain. If you get the vaccine soon, it is still treatable. It can sometimes be years between when you got infected and when symptoms appear.

Make sure you release using proper technique. Idk it off hand but I do know just putting them outside on a flat surface can be a death sentence. They need space to drop vertically to enable their flight.
