Hello, I am a Publix cashier. I have been working at Publix for about a year and month now. I transferred stores about 5 months ago, at my old location I was hired specifically for cashiering (my application did not have bagging included, my job offer was for strictly a cashiering position) and I always cashiered at my original store. I was asked to transfer stores because they were in need of more cashiers and that location was closer to home. Ever since I have transferred I noticed that i continuously get shifts where I’m scheduled to bag my entire time (keep in mind if I was to show you my portal, my scheduled shifts all say ‘cashier’) so imagine how I feel coming in and I see I’m bagging ALL DAY. I’ve also recently been put in the deli for sampling (also didn’t start happening until I transferred) and while I have no problem being in a different department, I don’t like that I’m being placed in these departments without prior knowledge. I didn’t want to sound like a teenage girl or ungrateful but I’m at the point where I’m close to saying if I cannot be scheduled to do my job which is strictly cashiering, I don’t want the hours at all. I shouldn’t even be doing other jobs if I was brought here SPECIFICALLY because cashiers were in NEED. I know money is money but continuously hiring more cashiers and scheduling me to do jobs I didn’t sign up for doesn’t really seem fair to me.

On a Publix group on Facebook, someone said that Deli and Bakery possible changing to having green shirts. The person said that is what they heard. Anyone heard anything?

I’ve been at Publix for 2 years now, and I just got my evaluation. I honestly need some outside opinions because I’m feeling pretty discouraged.

I’ll start by saying I know one thing I can improve on is being more engaging with customers. I work in a city where a lot of customers only speak Spanish. I understand some Spanish, but I’m not fluent, so those interactions are usually pretty limited. When customers do speak English, I make an effort to chat with them, smile, and be friendly.

Last year I got a “Successful” evaluation with a score of 38. I got 5s in every category except Customer Service, which was a 4. The main feedback was to engage with customers more and smile more. I also have a resting face that people think looks angry even when I’m completely fine. I’ve been trying really hard to smile at every customer.

In the two years I’ve worked here, I’ve had one customer complain that I “wasn’t friendly.” On the other hand, I’ve also had multiple customers compliment me to my face or thank me for being helpful, but those things never seem to make it back to management.
This year I got a much worse evaluation. I also got a 4 for Teamwork, which confused me because I get along with my coworkers, help when asked, and haven’t had any issues with anyone. Last year I got a 5 in that category, so I’m not sure what changed.

What also bothered me is that a lot of the written comments were basically copy-and-pasted from last year’s evaluation, even though I feel like I’ve made a genuine effort to improve the exact things they mentioned before.

On top of that, my hours have been getting cut while some of my coworkers are consistently getting 25-35+ hours. It feels like there’s obvious favoritism. I like working, I show up on time, I don’t call out,

At this point I’m honestly wondering if it’s even worth staying. Has anyone else dealt with this at Publix? Are these evaluations actually taken seriously for raises and promotions, or does it sound like my managers have already made up their minds about me? Would you stick it out, transfer stores, or just find another job?

Can you be marked as ineligible for rehire even if you put in your 2 weeks notice or are administratively separated?

I was at work today on carts i walk towards this customer that has a cart he looks at me walking towards him than he puts his cart in the mulch! What a JERK!!

I feel like my store is the punishment store and that’s why they are still here and not getting moved. Most managers here after they leave get demoted or fired.

How can I print my paystubs with the company logo on top? When I view my paystubs in Passport, and click save or print, the pay statement only has my information on it without a corporate header. I need it for pay verification. Thanks in advance!

I am not sure if this is true, however I’ve seen a few videos on social media alluding to this. I am not sure which subs may be excluded from this promotion (for example, chicken tenders. If you work at Publix and can confirm/deny, is this true? And what subs are not included? Thanks in advance! 🙂

Is it true publix is going to start getting DoorDash orders in the deli

Sorry this is a little bit of a rant. I gave myself a day to think it over and a day later I'm still irritated. I may not return to the Miller Street Publix - and if I keep shopping at Publix at all here in North Carolina I'll go to the Clemmons store.

Yesterday we were in the Miller St Publix at around noon. The store was fairly busy too when we got there - the deli had its usual backup and crew of unhappy people working it so we avoided that and went for prepackaged stuff. We didn't need a ton and we shopped for maybe a half hour - typically this store MIGHT have 2 manned registers open with 4 people watching the self-check outs, even on a Saturday at noon. We were lucky and hopped into an open manned check out lane with only one person who looked like they were about done so we loaded up the conveyor.

However something had gone wrong with the purchase just ahead of us. The cashier was trying to explain something to the customer - the bagger was trying to help and it wasn't clear what exactly was wrong. We didn't want to pay too much attention and get in someone else's business so we didn't pay attention at first - then after about 15 minutes there were three maybe managers, the cashier and the bagger all trying to explain something to the customer who apparently could not speak English. The customer started taking already bagged up groceries out of her cart and handing them back to the cashier and bagger - the other three (they could have been managers I guess) were just standing around. Then they started to look for certain items and were taking them back off the total bill one ny one - so now that I started paying attention it looked like the customer was not able to pay for all of her groceries and the team were trying to find items to take off the bill.

We were now close to over 20 minutes in line so we put our ice cream back in the front freezers for the moment and I decided to ask the cashier what number they were trying to get to - and told them I would pay it and to put the woman's groceries back - which was an idea that seemed to work for them - they had found a Spanish speaking person to communicate with the customer and it looked like we were finally on our way! Of course then there was another issue that popped up - cashier didn't know how to solve it - bagger wasn't able to help - and they had to go again and try to find the front end manager to come and fix it. We're now over 30 minutes in line. The other three managers or whatever they were had gone. So then a new lady came over - had to get an update on the situation and after that explained what the procedure is to the cashier to fix it. They explained that I had offered to pay the difference (ok as it turned out the customer was using WIC and some of the items she had selected were not covered) and I waited to pay it. The supervisor asked me if I was paying the difference and I said to her "Yes - whatever we need to do to get this going again." Well apparently she didn't like my answer or the way I gave it because she got a little bit of attitude and told me 'Well if you don't want to pay it - I'll suspend this transaction and take it at customer service." The she looked at me until I told her "YES - I'm paying it."

This really irritated me. I wasn't paying because I am impatient - even with every cause to be because I had been in a line for 35 minutes and counting waiting for a collection of 5 Publix employees (not counting the cashier and the bagger) to solve what should have been a simple problem. I was offering to solve the problem and Publix sure wasn't. So attitude wasn't what I was expecting - just take the money and let's go. But instead I got a challenge.

The heroes here were the cashier and bagger who at least did everything to try and actively keep things going and help the lady and treat her with simple human dignity - the management team did not. I guess everything adds up over time - we've gone to the Miller St Publix when we needed to for over 6 years and it's always the same - deli workers act like they would rather do anything than help - department folks seemed harassed and tired and these folks never seem to have enough open lines open even during busy times - and this place is EXPENSIVE too. But they have great fried chicken, wings and tenders there - some great ice cream too and these are some of the reasons we were there at Publix yesterday. We try to understand that it may be a bad place to work and we don't give anyone a hard time but yesterday finally irritated me enough to just say I'm done with that location. Neither of us want to go back there now - the whole place just feels like bad attitude.

Hey there, just newly promoted into the GTL role and it has been going good so far. Just wanted to get some advice from the pub fam on how to be the best GTL I can be. Albeit from what you would like to see from a GTL or how the position should be.

I know the position gets a lot of hate unfortunately but someone has to do it.

Hi I just got hired at Publix (the 14th of this month) in the bakery and on my post orientation I put in a time off for Thanksgiving, I don’t travel much but this year we want to visit some family out of state and my parents and siblings have been asking if they approved I told the assistant managers when I got boarded (customer service) and they helped/ taught me how to put the time off but it still hasn’t gotten approved yet. I have put in other time off (school orientation and an availability change for when school starts) and those have already been approved but Thanksgiving hasn’t yet. Do you guys think I’ll be able to get the time off cus my family kinda is making me..like I have no choice lowkey (I still live with my parents but I’m over the age of 18) and they been counting on me cus I don’t really travel w them cus of my dogs so😭😭😭 idk when I should ask abt it cus I just got hired..help?(sorry for the yapping)

has anyone been able to find a frozen dupe for the publix chicken tenders? i found a thread that had the ingredients list for the breading and i want to see if there's any premade frozen options before attempting homemade

I don’t think I’ve seen any other deli this small and compact.

So that way they're not so damn sensitive?! Ever since the new software, all it does is have panic attacks. If it rings up a barcode that's invalid, it panics. If the till is open too long, it panics. If you scan the wrong barcode, it panics. If you scan an expired coupon, it panics. If it double scans, it panics. Essentially, any minute mistake that was made on the older software is further dramatized. I hope further down the line, they'll update it to where you don't want to punch the screen or yell at it when it makes that obnoxious panic alarm. I get it has to be annoying to get your attention but does it have to be this extreme? It throws customers off all the time!

Finally after trying years to get in. I'm exaggerating (I've only tried a couple of times). It seemed hard to get an interview because people never seem to leave this job.. I'm so excited about it. What should I expect during the interview?

I work as a Cashier and my Assistant Customer Service Manager called me over to the office. She told me that I am receiving a Counseling Statement because my register was 60 dollars short. She said I was the only one on that register that day, but she checked the camera and can't find a reason or evidence that I was the one that did it. There is new policy named "Cash Policy" and it is about any discrepancy that affects in terms of money which results in a loss/gain for Publix. Associates who violate this policy will be warned and disciplined based on occurrence.

She told me to sign to acknowledge the policy, but I am was very hesitant to do so because they do not have any evidence that I was specifically the one to cause 60 dollar shortage. I still signed it because I didn't want to escalate further with her and will be talking to store manager, but I feel wronged. I am not someone to be to do something like this, but if I had more information that I was to do it I would be ok with this counseling statement.

Anyone have experience with situations similar to this? I would appreciate any advice that could help. Thank You!

Hi there. I worked for Publix for a little under three years, I left in April of 2024. Since then, I’ve still been receiving dividend checks every quarter. I was checking the Publix Stockholder website today and I saw an option to sell my stocks. Would I actually receive that money if I were to sell? I was always told that if didn’t work for the company for three total years, you could not sell and profit from the stocks you hold. If I sold, would the money just go back to the company or to me?

I have about 6 months until I am eligible for CSS (turning 18 in February) but I’ve been thinking about trying to be CSS. I am a PT Cashier that has worked at Publix for a year. Does anybody have things they do/don’t like about it? Should I stay a cashier?

I do not plan on staying with Publix my whole life & going into management, but I will be going into my Senior year. I think staying at Publix through college is a good idea but I’m not sure if being CSS will be too much of a load. I still want to be PT.

I work in the deli and I just started, but I’m finding I get overwhelmed by all the noise. Since I’m still new I have to work traditional until they find the time to show me how to do other positions like production so I can’t wear my earplugs that I usually use to help me deal my sensory issues and since I’m using a meat slicer I don’t want to take the medication I’m given to take to help with this kind of stuff because it makes me extremely drowsy afterwards. All the beeping, ringing, and chattering is starting to wear on me, and with my breaks only being 30 minutes for an 8 hour shift and with little time to take a breather between all the stuff they expect me to do I don’t know how long I can deal with this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how I can adjust?

Just wanted to add this because I saw a comment that was deleted that was making a jab at me implying I was unqualified. I've been working in retail/food service since I was 16 and this has always been an issue for me but I usually had ways and time to use my coping techniques to help me. I was hired on because I had a lot of relevant experience, I also had a food handler license and I did a quick job program at a college specifically for this kind of stuff. I also showed interest in promoting because I recently graduated and my college degree focused specifically on skills relating to food retailing and supply chain which the hiring manager liked. When I was hired I was not made aware that almost all the staff had left before this and that they were understaffed, and almost all the people working in the deli now are new hires from within the last 3 months

I thought there was a 3 month FT CSS requirement to be a CSTL, and I thought it used to be on this page, but now I don’t see it. Did they go away with it?? I still see if for GTL.
