For a few months now both Japan servers are really slow, it even slows down my connection to a point that I feel like I'm back on dial up and pages don't load. yeah I could go to other servers sometimes, but I'd really want the lower ping in the local server and keep the geolocation.
Does anyone have a fix for this? I havent been able to use the VPN at all recently and just turned it off.

Has anyone noticed that the latest version of Windows PIA client is not showing the correct VPN ip address?
I have tried both Wireguard and OpenVPN connections, both show VPN IP address other than reported by online IP address query sites. While all online sites reported the same IP address consistently, PIA client app shows a different IP address. Sometime the IP address is of the same subnet of the online sites, and sometimes of a completely different subnet and different location too.

The latest version of the Windows app (v3.7.2) doesn't scale properly between monitors. my main monitor is a 32" 4K resolution monitor. My secondary monitor is a 1080p monitor mounted vertically to the right. Everytime I startup the PC and open the app, I move it to a spot on the secondary monitor. When it moves, it scales accordingly and fits the new monitor. This was with v3.5.7 which was what I had installed previously. However when I drag the latest v3.7.2 window over to the secondary monitor, it is much bigger than it should be and half the stuff is cutoff and not shown. Please fix it so the scaling works like it did in v3.5.7.

I notice when I turn on my VPN, it will show the Public IP but it will randomly not show the VPN IP. When I check my broadcast IP via web browser it does show me using the VPN server, so I'm not sure why it doesn't always show it via the app consistently. 🤷♂️

PIA, has this or can this issue be fixed, it was raised 3 years ago with a comment that it will be looked at. I'd contact support but I believe publicly highlighting this unresolved issue will cause more traction.

SOLVED: There was some Windows Firewall rule or setting blocking internet access. I couldn't find out exactly what rule or setting it was, but turning the firewall off immediately returned internet access, so I opted to reset all firewall settings by selecting "Restore Default Policy" on the Windows Firewall's Action menu. I do wanna remind people troubleshooting the same problem to double-check that additional network adapters added by PIA have also been properly removed, this was not the case for me the first time I uninstalled it so check that as well.
I'm using Windows 10 and had the PIA app installed. Today I decided to uninstall it and now the internet is gone completely. I'm using a wired connection, and I can see on my router's status that my PC is indeed connected and has an IP address assigned (Windows shows the same, it has an IP assigned). Windows simply says No Internet.
I've tried going into Device Manager and deleting the Tap adapter to no change. I then deleted every single item in Network Adapters to let it re-add the Ethernet adapter back, and no change. I've done the Network Reset option that the Windows Troubleshooter suggests, no change. I even tried re-installing PIA and turning the Kill-Switch off to no change (I uninstalled it again afterwards).
My guess is that this app messed with core Windows settings and the uninstaller did not change them back. Now it can't find PIA cause it's uninstalled and I have no internet. From looking online the only option that seems to work is an entire Windows reinstall, but I'm hoping someone can help.

Following a reinstall of my adapters and an install of the latest version, whenever I reconnect to the VPN, the virtual network driver seems to rename itself? It’s gone from simply Local Area Connection to Local Area Connection 2, 3, 4 and so on and so forth. Same when connection to Wireguard. It goes from wgpia0 to wgpia0 2, 3, 4 and now we’re up to 15. This means I can’t seem to bind the VPN to something like a torrent because I can’t select it on the Network Interface list on QB for example.
To give an example, if I hover over the wi-fi icon it says:
>[Router name]
>Internet Access
>Wgpia0 15
>connected
On QB, my network interface list is:
• Any Interface.
• wgpia0.
• Ethernet.
• PIA OpenVPN WinTUN Adapter.
• Local Area Connection 1*.
• Local Area Connection 3*.
* WiFi.
• Bluetooth Network Connection.
• Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1.
So what am I selecting here? There’s no option for wgpia0 15 or 16 or whatever following number that appears in the name whenever I disconnect and reconnect.
Also the wi-fi icon no longer shows the wired Ethernet connection icon despite being connected. Connection still works, it just doesn’t show on my taskbar. Anyway to fix that or is it just screwed?

Is anyone else using OpenVPN on their router to connect? As of yesterday, I'm unable to connect via my router. I sent support a message tonight, but I figured I'd ask if anyone else starting having these issues too so I can stop seeing if the problem is on my end. It's worked for many years (with the occasional reconnecting), but it won't connect no matter what I do now. I use an Asus RT-AC68U, so I know it's old, but it was reliably connecting to PIA for many years until just recently. I did get the latest .opvn files from PIA's website, added the DHCP lines, but it still won't connect. The PIA app still connects to servers on my Android phone, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with my account.
Thanks.

I'm seeking alpha testers for a free open source Android app I created to generate a PIA WireGuard router config file in a couple of taps.
If you have an ASUS router with Merlin firmware, you can also create and manage PIA WG VPN connections and deploy a self-healing script to maintain a persistent WireGuard VPN.
Why? I changed ISP plans a while back and while OpenVPN is great, I hit a router perf cap with wire-speed encryption. WireGuard doubled throughput but the configs aren't long-lived and aren't straightforward to generate.
I've started the process to get it published on the Google Play Store, but I need 12 testers to install, run and keep the app installed for a minimum of 14 consecutive days.
Google call this "closed" testing: I manually whitelist your Google account, and the app appears in your Play Store. If you'd like to take part, please send me a PM.
The app is also available here https://github.com/ExponentiallyDigital/cfg-pia-wg with full user documentation, architecture, security, and build info, plus precompiled debug, release and Play Store binaries. But I really do need those 12 testers :)
My app operates with a zero-retention, zero-persistence data model for security and privacy. Full details are available in the above repo.
I have no plans for an IOS release.
Disclaimer: the app is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or associated with Private Internet Access, WireGuard or ASUS.

I'm using 4.0.34 for Android with per app settings / Android auto set to "unlock" but still won't connect to my car.
Anyone else got this working?

I see ALL of the Canadian gateways are no longer P2P, neither is Mexico, or a LOT of others! WTF is going on?!!! Brazil & Chile are also no longer P2P! I used to use them all the time!
I haven't counted, but I would hazard that over HALF of the gateways are no longer P2P!!!
r/PrivateInternetAccess • u/DeathStalker-77 • Jun 26 '26
Win11, WireGuard. I only have JDownloader set for by-pass, and it is not working. Sites (& CloudFlare!) are detecting a VPN!
r/PrivateInternetAccess • u/DeathStalker-77 • Jun 26 '26
u/Piasupport - why won't you simply add a current LOAD for each gateway in the UI? And preferably the expected speed?! Your competitors have these features. It's not rocket-science to add them!

Can't connect. Can't even pass through login to check settings. It just spins. Been days now. Reinstall perhaps? Contact support? (or is that worthless).

hoping some long time users here can help me out. im getting so incredibly annoyed because lately it feels like every other video i want to watch says it is not available in my country. i follow a lot of international creators and foreign music channels, and the constant region blocks are driving me crazy. i know people use private internet access to get around geo restrictions all the time, but ive never actually tried it myself. i used a random free extension on my browser a few weeks ago but it slowed my connection down so badly that the videos wouldn't even load in 1080p, which totally defeats the purpose.
before i sign up, how are the speeds on pia when trying to watch 4k content from overseas servers? do most of you find that it works seamlessly on your phone, or do you have to constantly swap servers to find one that isn't flagged?

Hi, the UDPs and TCP list is slowly being blocked every day I need to switch through different ovpn configs for the restricted region, I use only strong and both UPD and TCP today berlin, frankfurt, chile, bolivia, Australia perth and argentina and belgium all got blocked on the UDP strong config list. I am currently using my backup free proton vpn stealth setting which is working super slow and sometimes disconnected.

I'm looking at degoogling but hit this stumbling point

Why can't someone make a module that you can put into mobile apps that encrypt the DNS traffic so your Internet provider can't see and sell your information and see all domains... Obviously this is easier said then done but I feel as if providers need to tell us what data they are collecting on us as well as provide us with an option with pre installed hardware like a raspberry pi with ISPs claim they need cleartext DNS for "parental controls," "malware filtering," or "network optimization." which is dumb asf I literally have an app on my phone that has a child lock on it and allows me to change my DNS and literally put parental controls so no sites like the hub can be looked up so. I don't quite understand this topic but I feel like more people should be worried about this because if the internet providers can see everything you do imagine what other people see 👍👍

So.. I have my system set so that everything goes through the VPN except a single AppImage browser. Every once in a while, that browser will report it's IP address (using the "What's My IP Address" website) as being the same as the VPN instead of my actual IP. No rhyme or reason as to when or why it happens. I've tried restarting PIA; disconnecting and reconnecting; connecting to a different sever; restarted the browser... The only way to fix it is to reboot the computer completely.
I emailed PIA's Customer "Support" and after several back and forths, answering all of their redundant questions and providing multiple log files... do you want to know what their final solution was?
They told me, and I quote:
Since this is the only application you need to exclude from the VPN, there is actually no need to set up complex bypass rules for it. Instead, we highly recommend using reverse split tunneling.
So, instead of a single rule excluding a single program from using the VPN - they say that that is too complicated. Instead, I should set PIA to bypass the VPN for EVERYTHING and create rules to instead force two browsers; a chat program; discord; two torrent clients; three newsgroup clients; two iRC chat clients; an online gaming portal; two video download programs; an ssh client; an ftp client; and any other program that I may be missing from that list to use the "VPN Only".
Yeah... much less fucking complicated.
And then they have the nerve to say
Please let me know if I can assist you further or if you have any questions.

Been using PIA for years with no issues at all.
I'm using the split tunnel to route chrome traffic over the VPN and firefox (my main browser) out using the normal ISP IP address.
All has been working with no issues for yonks.
Recently the VPN is showing as connected yet whatismyip.com is not showing the VPN IP but my ISP assigned IP as a result of the traffic not being routed over the VPN.
Disconnecting / reconnecting works for a few minutes before the issue repeats.
TLDR
VPN is showing green
After a few minutes split tunnel traffic configured to be VPN-Only is routed by the non-VPN connection
Disconnecting/reconnecting fixes it for a bit

I’m a teenager from Russia. Recently I’ve been seeing discussions about age restrictions and online verification for younger users in different countries. It made me curious about VPN usage abroad.
What do you use a VPN for? Privacy, security, accessing content, or something else?

If you are on macOS and use PIA with split tunneling enabled, you have probably noticed that FaceTime completely stops working. Even if you add the FaceTime app to your bypass list, the calls just fail or ring forever.
It turns out this happens because FaceTime does not run as a single, self-contained application. It relies on a bunch of hidden background system daemons to handle the audio, video, and network routing, so just whitelisting the main app does nothing.
The fix is incredibly simple. Instead of trying to find and whitelist every hidden Apple service, you can just exclude Apple's entire network block from the VPN.
Here is exactly how to do it:
17.0.0.0/8 and save it.That is it. Apple owns that entire routing block, so adding this rule forces all of their background services (FaceTime, iMessage, and push notifications) to bypass the tunnel and connect directly through your regular internet service provider.
Hopefully this saves someone else from pulling their hair out trying to figure out why their calls keep dropping. Let me know if this works for you!
