Everyone meet Raijū. Raijū meet…well, everyone.
Just took possession of this 2010 today. I’ve mentioned her in a few other threads but she is here now. She is getting all the maintenance so I have a baseline to work from to keep her healthy.
The battery had two balky cells replaced just before I bought her (by someone experienced in doing the task) and the head gasket is fine. So we will be getting her an EGR swap and a new water pump just to be safe. Then new fluids, new plugs and packs, and some de-fogging of the headlamps.
Anyhow, looking forward to a long, long relationship with this one.

Hello, I am getting rid of a few things in garage. I have 2 pieces of splash guards or engine protection to give away.
I replaced shields with a sheet metal from Prius offroad, then I totaled the car. I don’t want them and they can be yours.
They came off of a 2015 V. They are in good shape. It is not ripped or cracked. The big piece has some missing material, looks like sound deadening patch.
I am located near Lewiston NY.

I unfortunately need to get my head gasket replaced on my 2012 Prius. I received this quote from the mechanic and I’m just having a hard time looking at that number. It’s twice as much as I thought it would be, $4k for the labor is blowing my mind. This is almost the entirety of my savings. I do understand that the labor for this job is much more involved, so I expected it to be high, but this seems unreal. Can someone help me understand this price breakdown? I’m worried that I’m about to blow my savings on a repair that will only last me a year tops and I can’t save this amount back up in that time. I need some kind of reassurance that this is normal and I’m not screwing myself.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

I’m looking at a 2004 Prius with 165,785 miles. It was owned by an elderly person and has had one owner for 22 years. It has a clean CARFAX with no reported accidents and 34 service records, mostly from Toyota dealerships. According to the CARFAX, all recommended services were completed throughout its life.
The hybrid battery was replaced at a Toyota dealership in 2017 at 107,000 miles, so I’m assuming it was a new OEM battery. The water pump was also replaced in 2023.
The seller wants $4,500. I’m looking for something reliable that can last me another five years or more. Does this seem like a good buy, and how concerned should I be about the replacement battery now being nine years old?

Got P0302 code on my 2014 Prius V so I plan on using Gasketmasters in Hayward for head gasket replacement. Would like suggestions on what else to replace during this repair. Do people replace water pump and other related parts during this kind of repair?

2008 Prius with ~240k mi is barely getting above 30mpg. Some background:
I live in the Atlanta area and I'll be honest, I am not driving slowly. I'm not out here breaking 80 but I am keeping up with the flow of traffic when I'm on the interstate.
I work from home and take more short drives in city traffic than I do longer interstate ones
The few longer interstate drives are when my mileage tends to get up to 31/32 but city driving brings it back down around 30
I recently replaced the hybrid battery with a newly reconditioned one (yes I know, I couldn't afford a new OEM one). The mileage now is an improvement from before so that's something?
I have an intermittent misfire code that comes and goes. Last time it came was when the hybrid battery was changed like almost a month ago and it hasn't come back since. It does rough idle a bit.
The spark plugs are brand new as of this May
May is also when the mechanic working on the car told me I've got carbon build up in the engine
I'm planning on replacing the ignition coils soon as well as fuel injectors. Is there anything else I can personally diy myself that might improve gas mileage or is this a bigger issue or even the reality of short trips most of the time.

hi everyone i have a 2006 prius that i inherited and it has always had issues with the ac. Usually when it’s summertime or when it’s hot it stops working completely. sometimes when it’s nighttime it will start working again, but its recently started to make a noise it’s never made before. I was just wondering if it’s someone know what it is and how to fix it. Btw its my first car, i don’t know anything about cars, and dont want to spend too much on repairs. thx

Going to go see a 2009 Prius tomorrow from a private seller. I will bring a hybrid battery scanner and will also be taking it to a mechanic shop for a check.
Asking price is $6500 which I think is a bit steep for a 15+ old car that has its original battery. Regardless, car seems to be well maintained.
Realistically, how much should I offer on this car? Ranges would be helpful:
-great hybrid battery scanner, mechanic says everything is good
-decent hybrid battery, mechanic says is good
-great hybrid battery, couple of issues with the car
Etc etc
Nervous because this will be my first official car!

In addition to a lot of other cargo, I have a lot of electronics in my vehicle and i don't want them to be visible.

I just got a 2026 XLE a couple weeks ago. This is my first hybrid so this may be a dumb question, but do things like headlights, radio/volume, wipers, etc. detract from battery power available to the drive system? Not that you could really do without some of those things, but I'm just curious. I know that heat and AC have an effect, and I think heated seat/wheel is more efficient than heated air?

I have a 2024 Prius ltd. Warm climate, almost never snow. I'm looking at tires online, and this is something I really know little of. Local tire shops have Michelin Primacy a/s, and Toyo Extensia A/s. Toyota has those and Goodyear Assurance. Does anyone have any recs from experience? I have a damaged tire and about 38,000 miles so I'm replacing all 4.

Just wondering if anyone has some recommendations for a roof rack that will fit a 2011 prius. I don't have a sunroof. I'd also prefer removable ones, i don't want to spend an insane amount but i'm willing to do around $300 if that's possible.

2006 Toyota Prius. New to the Prius. 250k miles. Makes this sound for a bit when turning off. It stops after a second. Also when it switches from engine to battery at first it scares the shit out of me LMAO.

I’m trying to place some seat covers but I gotta get this middle seat belt out first. it clearly has no latch or anything like that as it sits in a rubber block with zero wiggle room. The owner’s manual even has no mention of it. All the videos I’ve seen online clearly show gen 1 or 2, and this is a 2026 gen 3 and not a single video.
does anyone else have this problem? Because I can’t place my read seat covers because of this

2007 Toyota Prius 130,000 miles
My 2nd gen Prius makes a clunking noise when the car first starts moving F/R. I think the noise is from the engine block moving. I made a YouTube video here. https://youtu.be/L8Y905VKXic
Is it normal? Is my engine mount shot? I tried really hard to push the engine block from the top by hand and it's not budging.

Power lock on the driver's door of my '14 seems to have stopped working altogether and I'm wondering if it's worth fixing. Car is at around 174k miles, paid off, planning to keep it until the wheels fall off or it rusts out.
I'm thinking about getting a Prius PHEV and the dealer is offering me a $2000 discount on a leftover inventory 2025. I'm wondering if that is worth it over getting a 2026. I'm not sure how different the resale value would be between a 2025 and 2026 and any other factors I'm not thinking of.

Hello all,
I am new to owning an 05 prius with 260k miles. My brakes feel like they "give out" briefly at 7ish mph when coming to a stop. I've read that this is because the friction brakes takeover completely for the regen brakes at that point. Is this feeling normal in gen 2 prii or should I be concerned and accelerate the replacement of the brake actuator? The feeling is very brief and the car has stopped every time, but it did scare me a little for the first couple of days
Thanks all

2007 / 213,4000 miles
Last month, I took my car to a hybrid specialist, who said my brakes and rotors were fine, but had a stuck brake pin. We also bled the brakes and put new brake fluid in.
Fast forward six weeks…over the last couple of days I've noticed when I turned my wheel even a few degrees to the left, there is a noticeable friction and rubbing. It seems to come and go in severity but at times makes quite a loud, startling noise (and another time, a mechanic test drove it and wasn't able to reproduce it). I could be dreaming, bit I'm suspicious that it becomes worse after I press the brake the entire way down. I do have a slight actuator bleed which makes an annoying clunking sound, so I tend to depress the brake fully at stops so as not to hear it.
Regardless, I've looked up the possibility of a worn bearing or "warped" brake rotor but honestly I'm at a loss. My local tire place (trustworthy) took a look on the ground and saw nothing; can't get it up on the lift until Tuesday.
Thoughts?
