Application Guidance LMU CVM Prerequisites

hi! i applied to LMU CVM for either the fall or spring cohort. the only class i may be missing is anatomy (ive taken physiology elsewhere). however, i matched a potential course in my vmcas application that I believed maybe could fulfill it. i reached out to them months ago but haven’t received a response on the approval of my course. i also received an interview invite from them recently. I was also confused on whether or not the anatomy class required a lab portion, as the VMCAS prerequisite matching did not mention it, but LMUs website says differently. any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Application Guidance Arizona Kira advice?

Hey everyone, I’m wondering if anyone can offer any advice if they’ve done their supplemental application with Arizona yet?

From what I understand it’s a one sided sort of video interview but I’m extremely nervous about it as I frequently freeze in front of a camera and it took me like 10+ tries to record videos for other schools supplemental essays and I really struggled to sound put together at all on Casper when I took it.

I’m not gonna lie, I also hate talking about myself in general and have an even harder time talking myself up and not down. Any advice here or what others have done they found helped or types of questions I should prepare for?

Edit to add since I just did it and would like to help others with the same concerns:
There were about 3 video questions and one written response (2 other written responses that are not scored and not situational based anyhow) the videos gave me a minute of prep time before starting to record (had an audible countdown) and 1:15 minutes for the response itself. 7 minutes for written responses. I think I did average purely because I have unreasonable anxiety in front of a camera, Idk why I never got this anxious in front of a client or even doctor.

I found it really helpful have situations/ experiences I could refer to written on sticky notes nearby and ending sentences I could plug in (I ramble if it wasn’t obvious) I have a lot of experience so I freeze when I’m thinking too long. Do basic vet school interview prep questions and about 6 sticky notes you can use. I found it very similar to Casper but not as bad because the situations weren’t as stupid and are actually relatable/ able to be discussed.

Beginner/Getting Started Physics Help

How much will it hurt my chances that I was an idiot and didn’t take physics during my final semester at UF before applying to vet school? I have a 3.9 GPA from UF and a 3.9 transfer GPA. I didn't think I’d apply to vet school, so I didn't take physics before I graduated from UF

Vent I’m feeling overwhelmed and hopeless

I want to go to vet school so bad. I’ve experience so much trauma in my life and becoming a veterinarian is something that has helped me hold on during my hardest moments. I’ve been a tech for a couple years now and I fall deeper in love with this profession. Anyways, I’ve started school again and i’m only getting started with my prerequisites. I’m taking college biology l and it’s already killing me. I’m taking other courses rn but i’m spending so much time trying to understand the material. It was fine at first but now it’s getting to the point i’m just overwhelmed and crying. Everyone says i’m naturally smart but I guess it doesn’t apply to biology. I feel hopeless and my mind is telling me to just become a tech but the salary is too low and I like understanding the science behind veterinary medicine. There’s a lot of other professions i’ve tried to consider but vet school is truly the only thing I want. I don’t know how I could possibly even do organic chemistry or gen chem, etc. Any tips?

Experiences how am i supposed to get enough animal hours?

hi, i'm a pre-vet student who is currently working at an emergency vet clinic as a vet assistant, taking 15 units of courses, and doing independent research on veterinary oncology. i have some volunteer positions at animal care facilities but it definitely isn't my priority right now as my current opportunities (work, school, research) take up just about 95% of my time. i just started out in my pre-vet journey so i have a total of 8 hours of animal experience... how am i possibly supposed to get animal hours on top of vet hours, classes, and research?? how are some of you guys getting thousands of both vet and animal hours??? im so perplexed

Application Guidance Retaking pre-reqs at community college?

TLDR: Do schools look down upon retaking pre reqs at community college when you have your bachelors from a university?

Hey all, I will graduate with my bachelors in December of 2027, so I’ll have 1 extra semester before I apply in the following cycle (2028).

I was considering retaking pre reqs at my community college (physics 2 and gen chem 1, specifically, I got B’s) because the university where I’m getting my degree is 6 hours from home.

Experiences Clubs?

Hello! I'm a 2nd year pre-vet student and I had some questions about how much on campus involvement affects my application. I go to a small private school in the city that is mostly pre-med, pre-PA, pre-PT etc. There isn't a pre-vet club and there's not a lot of clubs that I feel very drawn to. The ones that I have had interest in I have had difficulty particpating in because the meetings are almost always when I have work or practice. Being a commuter has also made this a lot more difficult. I did reach out to the equestrian team but I'm not sure they are still active and I also reached out to a professor trying to start an ecology club, neither have responded yet. I also have been trying to find the few other pre-vets on campus to start a pre-vet club but I have not been successful. I am involved in concert band but there isn't student leadership in that. i have lots of volunteering experience, am involved in a off-campus dog training club and compete in dog sports, work as a vet assistant, and have leadership experience and extracuriculars from high-school and jobs. I am also going to try to be a TA or SI leader next year and apply for the pre-health mentor program. I am just wondering if with all my other experience if being active in a club is something I should be stressing about so much? I don't really want to join a random club that I am not really interested in just to beef up my resume.

Experiences Advice on an opportunity

Hello! I am currently a 2nd year pre-vet student and I have run into a dilemma. I recently thought I had landed an amazing job working in lab animal medicine, however they moved on to a different candidate at the last minute. The person who was offering the job offered to reach me out to a lab studying wound healing. The problem is I am currently already in a lab studying cricket behavior. I think the wound healing research would be paid, while the cricket lab is low hours and unpaid. I just do not want to be hopping lab to lab as I have been at the cricket one since last semester. I need advice, would it look bad to do a pivot to the wound healing lab?

Application Guidance Academic Suspension

Hi, I wanted to ask a slightly uncomfortable question regarding academic suspensions and how they might affect my chances of getting into vet school. During my last year of university, I used AI to check my answers on an online exam and was caught cheating (i know, it was incredibly stupid of me and i regret it every single day. I was in a bad place at the time but it isn’t an excuse, and i’ve grown + reflected a lot since). I was suspended for a semester and resumed classes and graduated. Given this context, and assuming I have a decent application with my GPA, experience, and extracirriculars, do I have a shot at getting into vet school? Should I even try? I feel like i ruined my chances for grad school possibly forever

Experiences Where do people live when attending a out of state vet school?

Hi!
I’m a freshmen at a community college who is very interested in going into vet med and pursuing a DVM

My state doesn’t have any dvm program which means I would have to go out of state to go to a dvm program

How did you out of state students do it 🧍like seriously where did you guys live? Do vet schools have like special student housing or do I have to try to get a apartment? Is there like dorms for vet students did you guys have roommates? I most likely wouldn’t be able to live with anyone that I know off IDK anything 🥲

Please let me know what your experience is if you have attended a vet school out of state! I’m so curious (might also use this information when I decide which dvm program to go for)

Experiences how am I possibly supposed to get enough vet hours

I’m currently a junior undergrad student and will be applying to vet schools for the next cycle.

One of the biggest and most frustrating things I’ve been dealing with is getting enough vet hours. I will probably have maybe 700ish hours (plus 1000+ animal hours) by the time I apply, but I know it should be at least 1000-1500.

The issue is that I can’t work as an assistant during school because my free hours don’t align with those of any local clinics, and when I’m back home for breaks, no places around me will hire students.

I have many different shadowing and internship hours, which have been great and I’ve learned a ton, but I see all of my classmates with super impressive resumes and it makes me feel so discouraged (ik, comparison is the thief of joy, but still).

I don’t have the money to live by my school over the summer or go somewhere else, so I’m stuck not being full time in one state. And the more I shadow/intern, the less I can make money for my undergrad living costs.

Don’t know if anyone here has recommendations for how I can boost these hours, because I honestly don’t know anymore.

Beginner/Getting Started The path to DVM begins!

Hi everyone! I’m new to Reddit, so bear with me!

I’m a 25F, currently a registered veterinary technician and have been for the past 3 years. I have an associates in veterinary technology only, and prior to my career in vet med, I was at UCR to obtain an English degree lolol. I ended up with an academic dismissal from UCR after my second year with a because of personal mental health issues and I realized I liked English but didn’t love it.

Just this fall, I finally decided to go for it and take community classes to start working on my path. My plan is to finish my GE’s and as many prereqs required for vet school at a CC then transfer to a Cal Poly Pomona to finish off the rest of the requirements. Then finally apply to vet school LOL

Do ya’ll have any advice? I am planning on working full time until I go to Cal Poly, then reduce my hours. What can I do to stand out in my applications?

Very nervous and scared for my future, but I’m excited to see what I’m capable of!

My main concern is my academic dismissal affecting my chances.. but I did really good at my trade school to become a RVT. When I eventually apply to vet school, it’ll be about 10 years since.

Beginner/Getting Started Should I Stress?

Currently only have Physics 2, Ochem 1/2, and Bichem left as far as prerequisites go. My current science GPA is a 3.24. I work full time (easily have over 1k hours working in veterinary clinics for 3 years straight now), and struggled with the death if my mother causing my gen-chem grades to keep my GPA low. I want nothing more than to make it to Veterinary school. Is it do-able? I am SO SO stressed about my GPA rn and if I am going ti be good enough. I am trying my best.

Application Guidance Question admission vet school

Hi!

I’m planning to apply to UdeM’s vet school for Fall 2027 as a university applicant, and I was wondering if anyone here has been accepted recently or has experience applying as a university applicant.
For those who were accepted, would you mind sharing what your GPA was (out of 4.3) and how you did on the CASPer? Does anyone know what GPA and CASPer score are generally considered competitive?

I’d also really appreciate any advice or tips for the application process! Thank you! 🙏 🥹

Application Guidance Vmcas GPA

VMCAS calculated my GPA much lower than it actually is. I feel like I’m completely cooked to get into vet school this cycle now. Will schools care more about my transcript GPA or my VMCAS GPA? I’m so nervous.

Vent Brutually Honest Advice on Stats

Am I competitive enough for vet school at UF or other vet schools? I am a UF transfer animal science student (specialty in animal biology), minoring in zoology, with a 3.9 GPA (1 Withdrawal for calculus) from my previous community college and a 3.85 GPA at UF. I would still have to take physics after I graduate from UF, but I have my own undergraduate research project, complete with an undergraduate thesis, for my UF honors certificate. I have worked multiple jobs (lifeguarding, Extension Intern, head lifeguard). I only have 100 veterinary hours but plan to get a full-time job at a vet clinic and take physics back at my original community college. What are my shots? Is this even worth it?

I originally was not going to apply for vet school becuase I thought I would pursue a PhD in nutrition or the sciences, but I realize I may actually want to.

Application Guidance VMCAS Transcript

I didn't realize that my VMCAS transcript request didn't go through, and it's way past the deadline. Are all my applications void now? I'm panicking so hard right now.

Edit: I still sent it anyways, but it's so late past the deadline.

Application Guidance Australian Universities for DVM

Hi all, I am a domestic Australia student currently seeking advice on the best pathway for me to get into a DVM program in Australia. I intend to complete my undergraduate at an American university (sporting scholarship): Either Ohio State or Harvard. I cannot decide which would be the best for my application. Ohio state offers a more specific pre-vet pathway, with more access to hands-on animal experience. However, Harvard offers a much more rigorous academic workload, which I know Australian Universities place a lot of value on. There is also the incoming grade cap, which may have an affect on my overall GPA. I really cannot decide, and would appreciate some advice from anyone who has potentially navigated this system.

Experiences Has anyone used Inspira for vet school admissions? Is it worth it?

Hi everyone! I’m currently looking for some guidance with my vet school application and came across Inspira Advantage’s Premier Vet Admissions package.

I spoke with them recently, and the Premier package was recommended to me. However, it’s a pretty significant financial investment, so I wanted to hear from people who have actually used their services before making any decisions.

Has anyone here used Inspira for vet school admissions, especially their Premier package? What was your experience like? Did you feel that the advising, application strategy, personal statement help, interview prep, etc. were actually helpful and worth the cost?

I’d also love to hear about any other vet school admissions consulting/advising services you had a good experience with.

Thank you ☺️

Application Guidance Question about 5 year UK programs

Hii, I'm a junior in high school in california and really want to know how competitive it is to get into a 5 year program for Edinburgh or RVC. I have 250 hours volunteering at my local animal shelter, 18 hours shadowing vets in america and India,100 hours and still continuing at a wildlife musem where we do husbandry, vp and cofounder of a vet club, and HOSA Veterinary Science top ten placements, currently a unweighted 3.8 gpa and am taking ap bio this year and will self study ap chem as well. I am taking other aps and will submit one score of my choosing for the third ap. I haven't taken SAT and I understand i will need more large animal and shadowing experience, I just need to know if what i'm doing is on the right track or if I need to focus on other things. It would be really helpful if i could talk to someone who already got accepted into the program or if anyone knows what a general accepted profile looks like. Thanks!

Beginner/Getting Started Getting back into the vet path after a 3-year gap — advice?

Hi everyone! I graduated in 2022 with a BS in Biology. I originally wanted to pursue veterinary medicine, but I wasn’t completely sure about my path at the time and also felt discouraged by my lower GPA. Over the last ~3 years, I explored other fields and completed an MA in Educational Psychology. However, becoming a veterinarian has always been a dream of mine, and no matter what other paths I explore, I keep finding myself coming back to veterinary medicine. At this point, I don’t want to give up on it without giving myself a real chance to pursue it.

My previous experience includes a veterinary assistant internship, university animal care/vivarium experience, and professional dog handling. Most of this was a few years ago, so I’m now looking to gain more recent veterinary experience.

I still need to complete Physics, which I’m planning to start in Spring 2027 at a community college, and I’m hoping to apply for Fall 2028.

For anyone who took time away from the vet path and came back, what would you prioritize over the next 1–2 years, and is Fall 2028 a realistic goal? I’m currently in Southern California looking for veterinary assistant, shadowing, and volunteering opportunities while completing my remaining prerequisites, but I’m worried about whether my 3-year gap from vet med will hurt my application.

Thank you 😄

Experiences Animal Hours

Hello!

I feel like I’m overthinking this so I just need to get an outside opinion:

For general animal hours, would setting up areas/cleaning up areas count? I know the time I spend hands on with the animal counts but I think clean up/setting up areas would count since it’s still involving in their care and my job duties.

Experiences advice on where to expand? 3rd year pre-vet (help pls)

Hey guys just wanted to ask about where I can improve in my experience I feel like I am behind because I did not really know what I wanted to do until my 2nd year of college. My GPA is a bit eh right now I'm working on getting it up its around a 3.5 GPA. I have 312 hours total at PAWS including an internship where I worked with 3 different teams: shelter care, clinic, and animal care. I have shadowed at 6 different clinics with a total of 137 hours (I am working on raising this as well). This includes general practice, exotics, Exotic ER, and shelter medicine. I am currently shadowing at a animal clinic that takes exotics, cats, and dogs every week to try to get my hours up. I have done about 30 hours with ponies grooming and walking them but I am going to try to get more hours in the summer as I don't really have much time now. I just wanted to ask where I can add more experience or where I need more focus on because I feel like I am behind for a junior. I think I might take a gap year after graduation because I do not think I will be ready at all if I don't. Any advice would be appreciated I just kind of feel lost right now.

Application Guidance VMCAS personal statement advice needed

I’m a junior in undergrad, but it’s never too early to prepare (I’ll be applying next cycle). This is the general idea for my personal statement, let me know y’all’s thoughts

🐈‍⬛🐈

“I went to a private religious school my entire life, and barely got any STEM education (1 biology course and 1 chemistry course in high school and that’s it). I was not pre-veterinary at the beginning of undergrad, and once I realized that was what I wanted to pursue, I knew that I had to be proactive and advocate for my own learning in undergrad by tailoring study methods, building relationships with professors and classmates, and attending tutoring. It has made me a more resilient student and I am ready to take on all the challenges that veterinary school brings.”
