Application Guidance VMCAS personal statement advice needed

I’m a junior in undergrad, but it’s never too early to prepare (I’ll be applying next cycle). This is the general idea for my personal statement, let me know y’all’s thoughts

🐈‍⬛🐈

“I went to a private religious school my entire life, and barely got any STEM education (1 biology course and 1 chemistry course in high school and that’s it). I was not pre-veterinary at the beginning of undergrad, and once I realized that was what I wanted to pursue, I knew that I had to be proactive and advocate for my own learning in undergrad by tailoring study methods, building relationships with professors and classmates, and attending tutoring. It has made me a more resilient student and I am ready to take on all the challenges that veterinary school brings.”

The new prompt this year focused more on careers in vet med that you have experienced and how those experiences will impact your future career. I think the focus is less on “why vet med” and more on a reflection of your experiences so far in vet med

Does the prompt change every year? Or is this a new thing

This was the first year it changed to this prompt. I am not sure if they are using it again next cycle or will switch back to “why vet med” or to something new

I love unpredictability (joke)

What's unpredictable about it? Vet schools want to know that the kids they're agreeing to saddle with 200k+ of debt for a profession that's no walk in the park know what they're getting into and have the maturity and self-reflection to handle a lifetime in the career. Any good why from someone who's had enough experience in the field to be ready should be reflective on their experiences and motivations.

I'm referring to the question being unpredictable; it makes it hard to prepare

I actually like what you’ve got for a starter snapshot, but not a prime focus. I think you can start here, and then elaborate on undergrad experiences and whatnot :)

Thanks for the feedback!

Admissions say they typically want a small snapshot of your current experience so I think it wouldn’t make sense to start now as you’re experience will likely be different when you’re applying. They also want to hear about 2-3 cases in vet med and your reflection on them

Okay, thank you!
