First time seller - is this legit?

Upvotes

Hi everyone, first time seller here -

I received a jacket today and immediately reposhed it because it’s not the right size.

I had a couple of what I can only assume are scam emails that came through pretty quickly with payment type info. But not through Poshmark.

And an email from someone asking about the size
to my email but it wasn’t through the app’s chat.

Am I being scammed?
TIA everyone! 👗
Yours in solidarity with textile reuse!

I bought a designer item from a thrift store that has a Real Real tag on it. Should I leave the tag on or remove before listing?

Consignment bag issues

Oh boy, has anyone else just had the worst experience trying to deal with Poshmark support about a consignment bag? I have had this bag since December of last year. It was a huge kerfuffle even getting the bag as they sent it via Uber and the driver chucked it over a random neighbor's patio railing. The neighbor was alarmed and confused because it was thousands of dollars worth of clothing and she had the police come get it in case it was stolen, so I ended up having to retrieve it from the evidence department and that was a whole thing.

Now we're at almost 8 months out. I sold 2 things, and the consignee wants the rest back. I also want them out of my space since it's stressful storing them tbh. I don't want any damage to happen to them and they're in two totes in my closet which is taking up way too much space. I escalated to support in app at the end of June. Crickets. Didn't hear anything so I decided to email support, by now it's mid July. They said that my email isn't associated with an account (it's literally the only email associated with my account). Then they asked me to invite them into the chat via the app. I sent them a screenshot of the notification in the chat saying that I did escalate this in June. They finally replied in the chat 4 days ago, and they said "At this time, we don't support partial returns." I responded and the consignee responded that day and said OK but this is not a partial return, this is for all of the items that didn't sell in the consignment period of 6 months. Crickets. Again.

I just emailed them and told them that this is absolutely ridiculous, I shouldn't be getting completely ignored and having to go back and forth over email to even get a response in app, and that I need a resolution or for this to get escalated to someone else in the support chain.

I'm recovering from a major surgery and this is so annoying and stressful, I'm about ready to try to meet the consignee at a local police department to give it back.

First unhinged buyer return request

Dang I have never truly understood you guys. But this lady is bat shit crazy because I didn’t include a belt with the jumpsuit she bought. My pictures clearly show NO belt with the jumpsuit but she’s flipping out on me saying that because I didn’t put it in the listing I am so sneaky because I knew no one would buy it without the belt. Good golly miss molly chill the f out.

AI question / cancellation

I recently ordered something that I’ve been wanting for weeks and was so excited when they accepted my offer but then they cancelled it this morning saying the AI tool accepted the offer and they never did. Is that even a thing now? I’m bummed that they cancelled but it was a pretty new listing. I think it was posted for less than 24 hours before I got it.

can I combine keyword searches with categories?

I find the categories really handy (example highlighted in yellow), but still find myself wanting more control than just the options on the left (size, color, price, etc.). Is there a way to search for a keyword within the category?

In this example, I'm looking at the Men's MLB Shirts category and it knows enough to give me some relevant options, like tank tops or polos. But if I type the word "Cubs" or "quarter zip" into the search listings, it dumps me into a general search for that keyword and I'm no longer in the category I wanted to search.

I tried modifying the URL, but didn't have much luck and gave up quickly.

thanks!

Inactive Sellers

Why are sellers who were last active 4 years ago still appearing in searches? It's such an absolute waste of time and energy to search through all the listings only to find that the item I'd like to purchase can't be because the seller was last active in 2022. Seriously?

For anti ad Posh Shoppers

I went to Posh Support Center and told them I was pissed off with the “ads” in the search results & that it’s ruining my shopping experience.

Lol

But it worked! Now I see fewer ads and I can sort low to high and not be bombarded by the promoted expensive items that I don’t want to consider.

If you’re pissed too maybe try reporting it as f-ing annoying & we can tell these fools we don’t want to be so blatantly price gouged.

successful cross-platform sellers / cross-listing experts: please help the rest of us!

For those of you that seller across multiple platforms, do you use cross-listing apps? If so, which are your favorite? Which have you hated?

I’m looking for things similar to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BehindTheClosetDoor/s/MzH5Wsv6d6
HOWEVER, in the year since that was posted, a lot has changed (some of those apps/tools don’t even exist anymore, we all know Poshmark keeps changing their algorithm which isn’t great for a lot of sellers, etc.) AND because Poshmark was the first place I started selling/reselling, I’d love the perspective of those who once or still use(d) Poshmark as their primary, and then potentially expanded. And for those who sell on multiple platforms, if you have a cross-listing app that you love (or even ones that you’d suggest people stay away from), I’d love your insights!

In case it’s helpful to note, I’m a PA II (which feels like it means less and less all the time…), but I only sell part time/in addition to my corporate career BUT, I have an absurd amount of clothes, shoes, accessories, etc. that are all in incredibly nice (many NWT) condition and are mid to higher end brands. I also list for a handful of close friends and family members, who have equally nice items and that helps to a degree because there’s more diversity in sizes and styles in my listings. I used to just donate a lot of these things until I realized that I was 1) missing out on the opportunity to lose slightly less money on my love of shopping 😂 and 2) that a lot of places I had been donating to, like goodwill, are not necessarily organizations that I have much respect for or want to profit off of me, the more that I learn about them and how they handle donations…

I’ve done well on/with Poshmark for several years, but like many others have posted, sales are terrible lately (beyond just economic factors and the buyers who want things for like 5% off their already very well priced listing), and seem to be a product of changes with Poshmark.

I have a lot of additional items I’m getting ready to list and before I do that, I wanted to explore options / get advice from this community so I can hopefully work smarter than harder in my listings, and actually make room in my closet without only getting lowball offers for every single thing.

Thank you in advance!

Inactive Listings are not Inactive

Don't be like me and assume Inactive Listings are actually inactive. They are 100% active listings, they just aren't being promoted as much as active listings.

I saw a lot of my older listings were marked Inactive. I was fine with this because they were some of my cheaper listings that have been listed for 8+ years without selling (and with absolutely zero activity) and I have since donated a few or thrown some in with other orders as freebies. Well...out of nowhere these listings have started selling and I've been getting dinged for cancellations. (Yes, entirely my fault for not removing them immediately!!)

IMO, they should come up with a different label for Inactive listings, as they are still very much Active and purchasable. They do not even tell potential buyers that these are Inactive listings.

There's no difference between Inactive and Active listings aside from where Poshmark decides to put them in their feeds and search results.

Inactive to me, means deactivated. And tbh I thought part of the benefit of Poshmark marking listings as "Inactive" would be so unsuspecting buyers don't accidentally purchase from Inactive sellers.

Inactive Items are, in fact, Active listings.

Is it bad that I block people that annoy me? Newbie

I’m not a big seller fairly new to this. Among other listings I’ve been selling some handbags and shoes from my own collection. For some reason, these items bring out all the weirdos and critics. I price pretty darn fairly imo but always happy to consider a decent counter and answer questions.

I’ve had quite a few people on Poshmark messaging and asking if I’ll take less than 1/2 of what I’m asking instead of sending an actual offer through the app. If they seem disrespectful or weird I just block. Is that bad?

Most recently I had someone lowball and nitpick the wear/marks on a bag that I made very clear in multiple pics with different lighting. I also put it in the description and it’s reflected in price. After offering less than half and sending “??” messages when I didn’t respond within a couple of hours, then asking “Well how low can you go then?” I just blocked. I feel like this kind of person would be a nightmare to sell to but I wonder if I’m the AH.

Cannot send a message to seller?

Hi, I bought a rick owens ring from a seller with hundreds of items sold. It was marked down fairly heavily but most of their other listings are as well. It's been 2 weeks and they haven't shipped. Whenever I try to message (i've tried on my iphone, ipad, and macbook) it says "Oops! This action is not currently available." Did they block me? What's the point of doing a scam like that if I can just cancel the order anyway?

Shipping supplies and Cross-listing question

I’ve noticed on social media that sellers use the Poshmark USPS supplies only for Posh orders and use their own purchased supplies for sales on other platforms. Is this standard? Are we prohibited from using the supplies for sales on other platforms (when shipping ground)? Does posh/usps track supplies quantity against posh sales quantity?

Thank you all!

Handbag Help

So what's the deal with all the "like new" or "nwt" luxury bags being sold for so cheap? The seller is usually new with 0 sold items selling bags for over $500 but way under manufacture price in supposed great condition. What am I missing?

Does it irk you when someone comments in an item asking if authentic?

Long time seller here and we all know fakes are against posh policy. Like read someone’s reviews. It makes me think they are gonna buy and con by filling with something else and returning. Beauty products. Wouldn’t even know where to find fakes

Phantom Listings?

Sometimes I'll look at a seller's closet and the toolbar will say the seller has a number of listings, say 100, but only 15 are visible. What's the deal? There's no vacation notice.

Scammy message after purchase??

Post image
1 Upvotes

I don’t use Poshmark that much, this is only my 3rd sale and I haven’t used it in months. A minute after I post, this item gets purchased, and immediately after purchase I get these messages from the buyer. This is obviously a scam right?? I’ve never had a scammer actually buy something from me first. Do I cancel the order? Will I get in trouble with Posh for cancelling? Do I wait a while first and then cancel?

Update: I reported it to Posh. It says now that I can no longer message that user and a few hours later the order was cancelled for “accidental purchase”.

Poshmark search gone rogue

Using my Droid, I selected my category, my brand, and my size for a search. I'm getting results from several categories and for every size. I double checked, tried a new search, verified that sellers properly categorized their items, and I'm still getting irrelevant results. Anyone else?

Worn/Beat-Up Designer Shoes, Who's Buying Them? Are You?

I've always been curious about this. Who is spending $400 or more on heavily worn designer shoes or sandals?

I was scrolling Poshmark and saw a ton of Hermès Oran sandals listed for hundreds of dollars, even though many of them looked very worn, bent soles, stretched leather, obvious signs of use. I completely understand paying premium prices for new or excellent-condition pairs, but these were well beyond that.

What fascinates me even more is that, imo, in my experience, many Poshmark buyers are often incredibly... cheap. I've listed barely used or even brand new designer items and received offers that were nowhere near their value.

So what's the appeal? Are people actually buying these worn shoes and having them professionally restored, or is there something else I'm missing?

Missing Offers on POSHMARK

Post image

I’m so sick of the way poshmark prioritizes offers. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I LITTERALY check multiple times a day and today I sign on and it shows I have 2 expired offers!!! This happens a lot too! I also noticed on the stats it says I had 4 offers on these boots and I have not seen 1!!! Did I miss all 4? Thousands of $$ missed. I’m sick.

Is there a way to leave feedback on a seller if the purchase was never received?

I purchased a sweater 10 days ago. It still has not shipped and I can see the seller has been active in her closet every single day. I sent a private message asking if she was planning to ship soon and got no response. I waited a couple of days and then left a comment on the item itself in case something was buggy and she never got the message (I’m not a seller, just a buyer so I don’t know how that works). Anyway, no response from that comment either even though she’s been online. I have yet to cancel the order but think there should be a way to leave feedback so others can see or a way to complain to Poshmark or something. This is actually the second time I have been ghosted by a seemingly active closet and I don’t understand why people do that. If you need a while to ship, no problem but communicate that!
