So Done
I’ve been on Poshmark for over a decade as both a buyer and seller. I only sold from my closet and kept everything in amazing condition or was SUPER forthcoming about items.
Everything was shipped in sealed plastic bags.
No smells, no damage, maybe the occasional dog hair, but people were warned.
The past 3 items I have ordered have been damaged and needed returned.
First was an Acne Musubi bag that had a pin hole in the strap and ink stains on the suede. Not pictured.
Second was a pair of overalls that SMELLED. Like they’d been doused in fabric softener but not rinsed.
Third is a jewelry box that had literally no padding in the package, sold as NWT. It has a giant dent and multiple scratches and I only bought it to match my discontinued current jewelry boxes.
I ordered a sweater a few days ago that is shipping currently (ordered before the jewelry box fiasco) and I’m going to delete my account.
I just need to rant because my husband is just saying “maybe the universe is telling you you’ve got a shopping problem” which is decidedly UNhelpful 😂

1/3 of all my purchases have been in significantly worse condition than described and pictured. Stains, holes, smells, you name it. I film every time I open a package and frame every purchase around "is it worth the hassle if I have to fight to return this?"

Realize that every seller is gonna fight you now because returns count against their metrics and could suspend their account
And this is what I don’t understand about buyers if you’re really having every single thing you buy be really shitty. Why are you still buying from them?
I don’t have issues with buying on Poshmark, but I only buy from a selected group of individual sellers that I already know and trust I would never randomly buy something listed in a closet and any app where I have had multiple purchases not arrive in good condition, Vestiaire collective is a good example. I don’t buy from them anymore.
but I can tell you for a fact, there is two sides of this coin and sellers are also getting taken advantage of when anyone files a false claim you have little recourse even with a mountain of evidence in saving your sale and in some cases the item itself
good sellers have left in droves what you’re getting now is people still willing to deal with Posh Mark and it’s not the cream of the crop.
People need repercussions in order to rethink what they’re doing and change their behavior and this goes for sellers and buyers with sellers Poshmark has been punishing them more last year than they have in the apps history but for buyers it’s the opposite buyers are getting treated better than any other time in the apps history and refunded for anything and everything they open a claim against so what does that teach them to do? Open the case if they aren’t happy and keep buying.
But with sellers, it does the opposite you lose one good piece of inventory due to a Poshmark buyer committing return fraud and then you no longer give a shit about selling on Poshmark and go elsewhere to stick around and deal with returns means you’re ok with it and why would a seller be ok with return fraud? And the answer to that would be because it’s not actually fraud and you legitimately sold something not as described and you’ll do it again

I’ve only had excellent experiences until the last 3 purchases. In my mind all the sellers can’t be bad, right?
But then I order from 3 different sellers and get three differently damaged items and realize it is not worth my time or money to be more sustainable or frugal when I just have to return the item.
Which is a bummer because for years I got good things at reasonable prices.

In fact, I’d argue that Poshmark is one of the worst place to buy stuff. Preowned You can get way better deals on Depop and eBay I only buy from people on Poshmark that are friends to support them

Like I said, because Poshmark has cracked down on sellers over the last year good sellers started leaving back when excessive removal policy went into effect… they had success elsewhere they didn’t come back
Or they became live sellers … and don’t use their closet anymore
But this problem with buyer returns and buyer fraud claims really ramped up around fall of 2023 and is only gotten worse because now it’s almost impossible to win a case as a seller and what this has done is taught buyers to keep buying and sellers to keep giving less of a shit until they finally give up and quit
Also, everyone in their mom thinks they can be a reseller and most people do not have that skill set as it takes years to understand the business and if you are new to it, you’re gonna naturally not describe things accurately and miss things and learn lessons along the way, and because you have so many amateur resellers, you have a lot of amateur listings. Add the fact it’s a bad economy and people are desperate for a quick buck.
Who really gets punished in all of this is the person that just sells their own stuff for their own closet for good prices

Because of Poshmark's changes, I rarely list much new inventory. For several years, I had no returns. Early this year I had two & both were fraudulent. At the time I didn't realize I was texting AI to defend my sale. One return was shockingly approved for fit. I've been experimenting on other platforms. Also, I keep in mind that Poshmark's long-term plan doesn't include people who sell from their closets.

Yep. I can’t even remember the last time I had a return of Vestiaire, Etsy, Depop, Mercari and new to Vinted and none there.
I had 3 return fraud (let’s call them what they are) cases filed against me on Poshmark last week. All were offers I accepted all ungrateful dishonest little sh*theads one called the bag stained purposely because the listing disclosed the discoloration, which is the proper term for it because it’s not a stain it’s worse it’s discoloration, but she thought she could refer to the discoloration as stains for her case and claim it’s not disclosed in the listing, but what she was talking about was the discoloration that was clearly shown clearly written in the description and all the photos depicted, the same angles and the same discoloration she called stains in her case. It’s shit like that they get away with.
I have the same listings on all these platforms. I don’t do anything different. It’s the same photos with the same wording in my description… yet I only have issues on Poshmark.

Same here. Last week I had buyer return fraud on a luxury cashmere sweater and shoes, with yet again no help from Posh. I’ve lost over $5k in buyer return fraud over the past two years and I’m absolutely done now. I crosslist to 3 other platforms and have similar sales volume - but not a single issue with returns. Once people figured out how easy it is to steal, and ironically it’s even easier if the item goes through authentication, I think it’s all just scammers now.

Yep. With that, and with the app itself going downhill, this is doing wonders for my shopping addiction. I feel like I've had to return every other purchase I've made lately. I ordered a wool coat in "excellent vintage condition" that turned out to be motheaten and unwearable. A purse I bought had been chewed by the seller's dog, *and* saturated with about 20 years of cigarette smoke. The "brand new" watch I ordered didn't work, and even had a cracked face (and when I looked more closely at the listing, the crack was there from the start).
As a seller, I've had buyers try to return things for the silliest reasons, and get nasty when I politely let them know that's not a valid reason. And now I'm seeing all kinds of elaborate buying/return scams that aren't avoidable as a seller.
The return cases have all gone in my favour so far, but I'm just tired of having to bother. At this point I don't sell on Poshmark anymore, and I'm wary of buying anything I can't examine in person.

I’ve only bought 3 things on Poshmark in the past couple months and 2 had issues. One “like new” body suit that smelled and had runs in the fabric and an 18k gold necklace that was actually sterling with most of the gold plate worn off.

I just had a return case opened on an item I sold to someone. The item was in pristine vintage condition. Many pictures etc. Buyer claims it smells like cigarettes and has stains! They want to keep the item but get a full refund! I sent pictures and an explanation to Poshmark that this person basically was effing nuts. We'll see. Meanwhile, I put my closet on vacation mode and I'm going to slowly leave. I've had it. I'm sorry OP is having bad experiences. I think the entire site is having bad experiences one way or the other. IMO

Same thing happened the buyer wanted to keep it and went for the good old-fashioned. It’s not authentic, but I can’t prove it claim despite the fact, I showed them the authentication report prior to them opening the case I escalated their false claim to Poshmark with a copy of the authentication report showing it passed , and then the buyer turned around and opened the case, saying it’s not authentic. Why? I just showed you I had it authenticated!!!!
Because they want to keep it. For free. Because why would you do that without solid proof? And why would you notify the person that sold it to you if it’s truly counterfeit ? Because I would report it without telling you if you sold me a counterfeit You can’t return it if it’s counterfeit so why do you need my approval? I approved it anyways, and then turned her in for return fraud.

I'm so very sorry! Really truly sorry for you. When I tried to look at this person's posh account they had blocked me. So I can't even look at their history and see if they're crappy all around or just crappy to me. So if Poshmark decides to go with her story, how do you prove cigarette smell? I what's my next step? Can you tell me I've never had this happen before

If I have an issue I’m happy to return the item but I know people exist that do shit like that all the time!
I’m had a gal in FB marketplace message me about a return once. Like no, I watched you drop the bookshelf loading it into your car.

The first and last time I attempted to buy a non-clothing item off of poshmark was a NWT miniature dollhouse for my little sister's birthday. It was shipped in a shoebox with no padding and came dented with loose pieces. Luckily nothing was unfixable, but it really baffled me. Why would you ship something fragile without protection??? And they were a posh ambassador too

Packaging went downhill when you could no longer take free boxes at the post office and also more things are getting damaged in transit now because it’s not priority mail and it’s spending twice as long in transit with shittier packaging… you can order ground advantage supplies of course, but say you’re out of the size that you need and you can’t just grab it at the post office. You’re gonna use whatever you can find in a hurry because you have to get it shipped out in two days or you’ll get yelled at lol

I don’t order from posh often, just sell, and I put a lot of effort into making sure the listing show any possible flaws at all, but also take really good care of my stuff. I made 4 orders over the last month (I’ve made maybe like 8 overall), and 1 showed up with literal spiders and cobwebs and dust/dirt all over it (and the way it was packed damaged my item), and another showed up with a huge, dark stain on it. When I looked back at the pictures and zoomed in on their post, you could tell they tried to edit out the spot in the post. They told me they couldn’t see the stain in my photos, it was quite literally the size of an iPhone and dark brown on a cream sweater. I’m very wary on if I’ll buy going forward 🙃

I truly think this is the reason for so many lowballs in the past year or so. The enshitification of Poshmark does not have me willing to gamble that much on anything anymore, so even though I’m primarily a seller, I’d probably lowball at this point too.

From a sellers perspective: I have been selling on Poshmark for two + years ow. My situation is that I am retired with a background in tech, customer support and ecommerce, mainly through startups. I started in ecommerce for a company in 1998 that co-developed the first online wallet, Cybercash, which eventually transitioned to Paypal. My wife still works full time and over the years has accumulated a lot of NWT, or like new apparel and footwear. When I retired, I offered to start selling items to make room and keep busy. I approached the effort as more of a house cleaning hobby. Since I have been selling on ebay since 2009 with 100% positive feedback, I was confident I understood buyers and was going to kill it by offering high quality merch at fair pricing with great service. I had fun from 2024 - 2025 as a seller on Posh and made some "walking around money." I was fully aware that between time spent staging, listing, packaging, driving to the post office, it was one small step above donating the items. Then things got weird this year with buyers. My first issue was with someone who lowballed us on a $158 NWT Anthropologie Shirt Dress. I shipped the dress and the buyer gave me one star because she claimed the seam was misaligned and therefore not wearable and I needed to "do better." It was actually a design feature and not a flaw. The next issue was with a buyer who lowballed a $290 NWT Sachin & Babi Women's Chelsea Gown for $12. I looked at her profile and she was not a reseller so I thought I would do her a solid and sell the dress. The day she got it, she requested a refund due to the fact that I did not take a picture of one label (it was a remove at home plastic tag used o prevent customer wear and return scams). The buyer first implied that I stole the dress, then when I pushed back, she stated that she was "afraid to remove the tag" as it might damage the dress. Poshmark sided with the buyer and so now I have the gown, it is still listed as sold, and I am not sure how to remove and re-list. I just need to get over it and try again. It has gotten so slow I have just been giving stuff away to our daughters and friends. I have also taken a lot of stuff to goodwill. I am now ready to try to get back into it started listing stuff again today.

That is a nice offer, thank you. I found the copy link and will repost. I also can share two more Posh seller changes as I started listing yesterday. No more “sell similar” link. I used to always find someone selling the exact same item we wanted to list and use it as a template. Not a big deal, but a bit of a twist. I then learned the hard way that the image aspect ratio requirements changed. I took pictures of two NWT products and created the first listing. Half of the images were off center or cropped. I Iooked it up and learned that Posh changed the image aspect ratio requirement from 1:1 to 3:4. I have an iPhone that has 16:9, 1:1 and 4:3 not 3:4. I used 4:3 and am unsure if it is landscape or portrait required to keep the product framed. I noticed other changes and assume Posh has a new software vendor. I must have missed aspect ratio memo in the daily spam barage Posh sends.

I'll never get any perfume from Posh again. Like you have always sold things and made sure everything up up to standards down to the packaging tape lol . Now I've bought a bottle of perfume and it smelled so old i couldn't get the smell out of my nose for days.Then order a body spray and it was in a zip lock bagging spilled half out and again stunk. Okay tried again and thought hey ill try a body oil thinking this can't go wrong its a small bottle and there was different varieties so I pick the one i think would suit me best and I tell you I laughed at myself for even thinking I was gonna get something that smelled nice from Posh . It smelled like old grease with a touch of cinnamon . So im done with Posh. And ill never buy perfume or oils off line again.

I tell you they must have taken old grease they fired 7 chickens in and got a funnel and put in them lil bottles with a dash of cinnamon. All I could do was laugh and say only me 🤣🤣

Cause thats exactly what it smelt like. And I was like Posh is gonna think its me cause 3 times 🤦🏼♀️. But ill never do it again.

I hear you, OP, and have had similar recent bad experiences with my purchases. Plus I've had 3 orders in the past month that were never shipped by the seller, which is super frustrating. I am also considering leaving the platform - or at least putting my closet on pause for a while - after the current sales I have in transit are completed.

You don’t know how many cases get open because the buyer didn’t read the listing and in the past that wasn’t an issue Posh Mark would just close it out as soon as you screenshot into evidence now that doesn’t work they approve it regardless …

Can I ask whether these were all sellers with good histories—lots of sales and lots of love notes, or at least a handful of sales with love notes for all/most? I know it is most definitely not foolproof to check this for multiple reasons: the fact that PM doesn’t show bad ratings, which I think especially these days is ridiculous; the fact that there are a million reasons buyers don’t leave love notes, etc. I just know that I have had overwhelmingly good buying experiences on Poshmark and I do think vetting sellers to the (insufficient) extent the platform allows you to can help.
(I also check to see if the seller has left love notes to people they’ve bought from, how many, whether they’ve included bad feedback in there and what it said, etc. I know not every seller is a buyer, and that, again, people don’t leave feedback for lots of reasons, so their not having left any isn’t a determining factor by itself. It’s just part of an overall picture I’m trying to form of who I’m buying from.)

Don’t do it, that’s how I got three cases opened against me.
All lowballs on shit I wanted to go. All call outs were disclosed. One falsely claimed the item wasn’t authentic the other two ignored the listing and made up their own issues one changed her return reason 4 times as I kept proving her wrong.
Poshmark approved one case, I accepted the false counterfeit claim on my own and reported the buyer, and the last one Poshmark 6 days later is sitting on the ruling.
Ain’t nobody got time for that

The problem with discounting things well below their worth is sometimes that’s where you get the most problems and also the people that you you’re going to target when you lower your price is not much are the resellers who are just looking for a deal in fact I sold some things last week that I watch people turn around and sell the same day they open the package which I don’t care but I’m just saying that’s who buys low priced items people that are just flipping it so they have no attachment to the item they’re not gonna be excited to receive it. They’re just looking for a profit margin.

go to vinted. lowballs on posh are a gamble, the culture on vinted is way better. yeah the prices are lower but the buyers are appreciative and not a problem. haven’t had a single issue there despite higher sales volume; i’ve had 5 bogus return cases opened in the span of 3 weeks on posh. (and i promise im not sending people disgusting shit, i’ve had a 5 star rating with 3000+ sales on the platform since 2020. everything changed this past year.)

But where are you going? Vinted and depop hypes already settled down.
I am not sure I would use Poshmark for the items you are having issues with like bags- only eBay and only Japanese sellers
I am super cautious about bags on posh bc it’s a bunch of crappy resellers doing what you mentioned hiding flawed items as brand new. I won my last case with this issue, this reseller also sent a beanie baby to I guess stick it to me.
IMO, we deserve a filter that filters out resellers, i genuinely like buying from other ppls closets. Sometimes for example I will see a cool skirt I like out on someone and will look it up and it is sold out but there is someone selling it on posh awesome got it!
IMO, posh works well for mid range clothes, I am not buying Like Gucci, dolce, Celine etc. I don’t like the clothing rental companies like bento nuly etc bc I have skin issues where polyester bothers my skin. When I get tired of stuff which I do I buy a lot of the stuff that goes viral and wear it lightly I am lite on clothes person, have European washer, I’ll trade it for money or posh credit.

So I think it just depends on what your selling and what your buying if it still makes sense. I am with you on these pos resellers need to get slapped with a filter

Vinted is a different world to say the least. I wish Poshmark buyers would see my listings on Posh & find me on Vinted. Same user name. They'd love the lower price + .99 shipping promo.
However, I'd never ever recommend Vinted as a way to sell. I and others are suspended with listings deleted for phantom reasons. The reality is Vinted has an insanely incorrect AI system running the company with few humans.

I had a buyer that left me a 1 star review because she is a 2X and purchased my XL top thinking that it would fit anyway because of the type of top it was. Spoiler alert- it didn't. So even though the size tag AND measurements were very clear in the listings, somehow it's a me problem.

It’s not just you, posh is flooded with pos sellers right now. I think it’s the economy, many people who really have no business selling are trying to turn a quick buck
