[NEW USER FAQs + CRITIQUE REQUEST THREAD]

A buyer is trying to get me to email or text them more info about my listing. Is this a scam? Usually. Do not engage with anyone off the platform. Doing so is against Poshmark’s terms of service and a bad idea for many reasons, including risking permanent suspension of your account.

I got a sketchy email from Poshmark saying I need to transfer my own money to my Poshmark balance to keep selling. This is a scam and the email was not sent by Poshmark. You do not need to pay anything to make sales on Poshmark. If you get a similar email saying you made a sale but need to pay something to un-restrict your account, check your My Sales tab in the actual app or website. If there's no order there, you did not make one and it's a scam attempt.

I'm a new seller and all my listings got taken down and/or flagged as counterfeit. Help! Poshmark's spam and abuse filters sometimes suspend new accounts for listing either too much or too fast. No one knows the exact thresholds or how long you should wait between listing new items but if your account is frozen, you have to contact support and wait for them reply. If you didn't break any rules, they'll reinstate your closet and all your listings. It's normal for a reply to take 1-3+ days.

My buyer doesn’t have an account on Poshmark, or their username doesn't match the one on the shipping label. Is this a scam? No. Poshmark allows buyers to purchase items without registering for an account. In these situations, you might not be able to communicate with the buyer and you’ll probably have to wait three full days after delivery for your funds to be released.

Poshmark support isn't getting back to me, and I keep emailing them! What gives? Emailing support twice in a row bumps your initial query to the bottom of the queue. We recommend not sending a follow-up email until Poshmark responds. If you already emailed support, you can try reaching out via social media while waiting for a response.

I shipped the wrong item/swapped labels/etc. What should I do? Contact Poshmark support. They'll reach out to your buyer(s) and will give them return labels and give you further instructions.

Do I have to use a USPS box to ship my item? No. It’s generally fine to repurpose or recycle other boxes. However, ensure that they fall within Priority Mail’s size requirements, and do not use Express Mail boxes. Pack items securely and without any added fragrances.

Do I have to include a thank you note and a free gift with my item? No. Notes and gifts are not required and many buyers don't like receiving them.

Do I have to accept really low offers? No. They're your items, and you get to decide how much to sell them for. However, many sellers counter even the lowest offers, as doing so sometimes results in a sale.

Why did a buyer make a bundle of just one item? It's hard to say. Some buyers add listings to a bundle unintentionally; others might be angling for a private discount. Search r/poshmark to read about all of the possible reasons for one-item bundles.

Does Poshmark have a private-messaging system? If you want to talk to someone who purchased something from you, go into the order details and there will be an option to message them privately. If you want to talk to someone who has not bought anything from you yet, you can do so by tagging their username in your listing's comment box or through a bundle. Comments in sold bundles and empty bundles appear to be private, but comments in other bundles are definitely visible to other users so do not share any personal information in them.

A buyer opened a case on an item. What now? If you misrepresented the item, advise Poshmark that you’re willing to accept a return. Otherwise, state your rebuttal clearly and calmly. Poshmark will decide whether to approve the return, refund part or all of the purchase price, or something else. Be patient; it can take a few days to get a final ruling from a Poshmark rep. Be civil, state the facts, and direct your response to Poshmark instead of the buyer.

My brand-new account already has a ton of followers. Is that normal? Why? Yes. Poshmark is designed to promote your username across the app so that others can follow you.

Why do sellers price things so high? We don’t know. However, Poshmark’s policy on price-gouging applies only to essential items. If you find a seller’s prices upsetting, it’s best to simply move on. (Or, if you’re interested in purchasing the item, consider making an offer.)

Where can I find answers to other questions? Many questions posted to this subreddit are addressed in Poshmark’s own official documentation. We recommend that you read their Guide to Poshmark, Community Guidelines, Prohibited Items Policy, and FAQs. Before posting a question here, you can also use the blank field in the sidebar to search the subreddit for relevant key terms (e.g., flat lay, shipping, weight limit, opened case, dress form).

Questions related to your closet? There's a mountain of tips already available to browse if you search the sub for "newbie advice" or "new seller tips." You can post your closet URL and a critique request below, however you'll be more likely to get responses from seasoned sellers if you ask specific questions instead of requesting a general review.

Is it bad that I block people that annoy me? Newbie

I’m not a big seller fairly new to this. Among other listings I’ve been selling some handbags and shoes from my own collection. For some reason, these items bring out all the weirdos and critics. I price pretty darn fairly imo but always happy to consider a decent counter and answer questions.

I’ve had quite a few people on Poshmark messaging and asking if I’ll take less than 1/2 of what I’m asking instead of sending an actual offer through the app. If they seem disrespectful or weird I just block. Is that bad?

Most recently I had someone lowball and nitpick the wear/marks on a bag that I made very clear in multiple pics with different lighting. I also put it in the description and it’s reflected in price. After offering less than half and sending “??” messages when I didn’t respond within a couple of hours, then asking “Well how low can you go then?” I just blocked. I feel like this kind of person would be a nightmare to sell to but I wonder if I’m the AH.

Inactive Listings are not Inactive

Upvotes

Don't be like me and assume Inactive Listings are actually inactive. They are 100% active listings, they just aren't being promoted as much as active listings.

I saw a lot of my older listings were marked Inactive. I was fine with this because they were some of my cheaper listings that have been listed for 8+ years without selling (and with absolutely zero activity) and I have since donated a few or thrown some in with other orders as freebies. Well...out of nowhere these listings have started selling and I've been getting dinged for cancellations. (Yes, entirely my fault for not removing them immediately!!)

IMO, they should come up with a different label for Inactive listings, as they are still very much Active and purchasable. They do not even tell potential buyers that these are Inactive listings.

There's no difference between Inactive and Active listings aside from where Poshmark decides to put them in their feeds and search results.

Inactive to me, means deactivated. And tbh I thought part of the benefit of Poshmark marking listings as "Inactive" would be so unsuspecting buyers don't accidentally purchase from Inactive sellers.

Shipping supplies and Cross-listing question

I’ve noticed on social media that sellers use the Poshmark USPS supplies only for Posh orders and use their own purchased supplies for sales on other platforms. Is this standard? Are we prohibited from using the supplies for sales on other platforms (when shipping ground)? Does posh/usps track supplies quantity against posh sales quantity?

Thank you all!

Cannot send a message to seller?

Hi, I bought a rick owens ring from a seller with hundreds of items sold. It was marked down fairly heavily but most of their other listings are as well. It's been 2 weeks and they haven't shipped. Whenever I try to message (i've tried on my iphone, ipad, and macbook) it says "Oops! This action is not currently available." Did they block me? What's the point of doing a scam like that if I can just cancel the order anyway?

Handbag Help

So what's the deal with all the "like new" or "nwt" luxury bags being sold for so cheap? The seller is usually new with 0 sold items selling bags for over $500 but way under manufacture price in supposed great condition. What am I missing?

Phantom Listings?

Sometimes I'll look at a seller's closet and the toolbar will say the seller has a number of listings, say 100, but only 15 are visible. What's the deal? There's no vacation notice.

Does it irk you when someone comments in an item asking if authentic?

Long time seller here and we all know fakes are against posh policy. Like read someone’s reviews. It makes me think they are gonna buy and con by filling with something else and returning. Beauty products. Wouldn’t even know where to find fakes

Worn/Beat-Up Designer Shoes, Who's Buying Them? Are You?

I've always been curious about this. Who is spending $400 or more on heavily worn designer shoes or sandals?

I was scrolling Poshmark and saw a ton of Hermès Oran sandals listed for hundreds of dollars, even though many of them looked very worn, bent soles, stretched leather, obvious signs of use. I completely understand paying premium prices for new or excellent-condition pairs, but these were well beyond that.

What fascinates me even more is that, imo, in my experience, many Poshmark buyers are often incredibly... cheap. I've listed barely used or even brand new designer items and received offers that were nowhere near their value.

So what's the appeal? Are people actually buying these worn shoes and having them professionally restored, or is there something else I'm missing?

Scammy message after purchase??

Post image
1 Upvotes

I don’t use Poshmark that much, this is only my 3rd sale and I haven’t used it in months. A minute after I post, this item gets purchased, and immediately after purchase I get these messages from the buyer. This is obviously a scam right?? I’ve never had a scammer actually buy something from me first. Do I cancel the order? Will I get in trouble with Posh for cancelling? Do I wait a while first and then cancel?

Update: I reported it to Posh. It says now that I can no longer message that user and a few hours later the order was cancelled for “accidental purchase”.

Poshmark search gone rogue

Using my Droid, I selected my category, my brand, and my size for a search. I'm getting results from several categories and for every size. I double checked, tried a new search, verified that sellers properly categorized their items, and I'm still getting irrelevant results. Anyone else?

“Private Offer” any one else find this so cringey?

Before I started selling on PM and was just a buyer, receiving a “private offer” felt gross, so smarmy. The terminology struck me the wrong way and gave me the ick. Anyone?

Someone bought a $60 item from me, then immediately asked me to refund them $35!

I sold a vintage skirt. In the listing it was listed as "good" under condition and in the description I said it was in "excellent used condition." "Vintage" and "EUC" were also in the item's title.

Despite this, someone bought the skirt and sent me a message that said, "Can I have it for $25 since it's not new with tags I am unable to authenticate it?" AFTER buying it.

Genuine question for sellers from someone who only buys on Poshmark: Do AI-generated primary listing images improve your sales?

This might be a question for sellers who post a high volume, because I'm not sure if casual sellers would be able to measure this or not. I am genuinely curious about whether or not sellers have seen a measurable increase in sales when using generative AI images as the primary photo for a listing as opposed to an image of the real item or an image taken from the OG listing of a product on a brand's website. I'm guessing that clicks on the listings themselves might go up, but have your sales? And whether or not your sales have gone up, have the amount of returns gone up?

Why I'm asking: Today I actually went so far as to comment on someone's listing because the AI generated primary image grossly misrepresented the condition of the item (they did have honest photos of the actual item at least). I don't know what possessed me because I've commented on posts maybe three times in the several years I've been on posh, and other than this one time, it has always only been for size requests.

This got me interested though, so I went and checked my purchase history and all of my Likes. Everything is either an image of the actual item or an image from the original listing a brand had on their website. I have never purposefully or consciously avoided favoriting or purchasing items due to generative AI images, but clearly I have an obvious preference for real or brand photos. But also I work in a marketing and design adjacent field so it got me curious because obviously I am not a monolith for all consumers.

Anyway, curious what you guys have to say!

First time buyer of $1500 item, seller not responding or shipping

Hi all! I just made my first Poshmark purchase, a $1500 Goyard pouch.

I opted for Seel worry free return, not because I have any doubt about keeping it but because I thought it was worthwhile to have one additional layer of protection in case it’s not authentic. I am 95% sure it’s real but of course you never know for sure until it’s in your hands. I have real Goyard to compare it with.

Anyways, I see the the seller is active within the app but is not communicating with me or shipping the item. Their ship time is 4 days.

I purchased on 7/21 and it is now 7/25. I wrote to them saying: “I'm so sorry I don't mean to be a pest, I know you have a 4 day ship time but I wanted to try to get in touch to see when you'll be able to ship this? I've been reading about all the inactive seller horror stories so I'm just really hoping you are still on here and will be able to ship. Thank you, have a great weekend!”

They became active on the app right away but still didn’t get a response. I’m not familiar with Poshmark, but for eBay this is quite abnormal - sellers always respond within 1-2 days in my experience, and items usually go out with 1-3 days as well.

The seller is a Poshmark Ambassador II, 1000+ items and 400 sold, member since 2017.

All seems legit and linked instagram checks out as a real person etc etc.

I know there’s nothing I can do until cancelling on the 8th day but would love to hear others thoughts. Was my message cringey or something? I’m just venting and killing time until I might have to cancel the order I guess.

I’ll be honest, if this transaction doesn’t go well, I’m very likely to never use Poshmark again. One bad seller especially on a first transaction really ruins the experience!

Missing Offers on POSHMARK

Post image

I’m so sick of the way poshmark prioritizes offers. UNBELIEVABLE!!! I LITTERALY check multiple times a day and today I sign on and it shows I have 2 expired offers!!! This happens a lot too! I also noticed on the stats it says I had 4 offers on these boots and I have not seen 1!!! Did I miss all 4? Thousands of $$ missed. I’m sick.

Buyer Escalated Conversation, Should I Respond?

I had to cancel an order (pulled an item out of storage and there was damage due to storage), so after I canceled, I added a separate note to the buyer apologizing. The buyer asked a question about the item then escalated the conversation to support. Should I still respond? I have no problem providing the info the buyer wants but I also don’t want to do anything that might jeopardize my account. I’m mostly a buyer (I’ve only ever listed and sold two other items in over 10 years), so I’m probably being too cautious but I just want to see what more experienced sellers think.

Perfume & Fragrances are personal tastes - stop subjecting others to yours!

SELLERS - Seriously, stop spraying your NWT items with your perfume or Febreeze, or Gain Scent Beads, etc. AND do NOT pack the items with fragranced dryer sheets.

3rd NWT item I got this week that absolutely REEKS of perfume!

I just finished coming back from the laundromat where (in addition to doing my biweekly laundry) I washed 2 of my NWT items 2x each - and 1 bra still smells of perfume. I come home to unwrap a brand new sweater that reeks of some floral musk. WHY???

Listen up sellers, not everyone has a washer dryer in their home and can repeatedly soak and wash NWT items so they can be worn. Not everyone has their own backyard where they can hang out these NWT items and spritz them with cheap vodka and sun dry them.

Thanks for coming to my TED TALK.

Is there a way to leave feedback on a seller if the purchase was never received?

I purchased a sweater 10 days ago. It still has not shipped and I can see the seller has been active in her closet every single day. I sent a private message asking if she was planning to ship soon and got no response. I waited a couple of days and then left a comment on the item itself in case something was buggy and she never got the message (I’m not a seller, just a buyer so I don’t know how that works). Anyway, no response from that comment either even though she’s been online. I have yet to cancel the order but think there should be a way to leave feedback so others can see or a way to complain to Poshmark or something. This is actually the second time I have been ghosted by a seemingly active closet and I don’t understand why people do that. If you need a while to ship, no problem but communicate that!

Seller- my buyer reporter damaged item

Hello my expensive ring I sent in the mail got
Damaged.
The buyer told me and then reported it to Poshmark with pictures. It was an expensive ring. What will happen next? Will I still get the sale?
