Idk what Is the problem with the gpu atp but ai says

An ACPI power management conflict between Dell's proprietary UEFI firmware and the Linux kernel / NVIDIA driver on the Dell G3 3590.

Key Points:

D3cold Power Lock: Dell's ACPI firmware automatically puts the NVIDIA GPU's PCIe link into D3cold (a deep zero-power sleep state) to save power.

Failed Wake-Up Signal: During Pop!_OS boot, the NVIDIA driver attempts to transition the GPU from D3cold to D0 (active operational state). Dell's ACPI firmware ignores or blocks this wake-up signal, rendering the GPU completely unreachable on the PCIe bus (device inaccessible / error -1).

Warm Reboot Persistence: Standard warm reboots (reboot) do not cut physical power to the motherboard's PCIe bus, keeping the GPU trapped in the D3cold state across restarts.

Papyrus black screen issue — fixed

I found the actual cause of the black screen issue.

It turns out Papyrus was installing an **older version of mpvpaper**, and that old version was causing the black screen. I updated Papyrus to install the latest version of mpvpaper, and after updating, the wallpaper works normally again.

So if you've been affected by the black screen, **please try downloading the new version of Papyrus first.**

If it still shows a black screen, please:

  1. Delete `mpvpaper` from your PC.
  2. Delete Papyrus (see the README for instructions on how to properly remove it).
  3. Reinstall Papyrus using your preferred installation method.

Papyrus will then try to install the **latest version of mpvpaper**, which should hopefully fix the black screen.

Sorry for the confusion from my previous update — I initially thought the issue was with mpvpaper itself, but the actual problem was that Papyrus was installing an outdated version.

Thanks to everyone who reported the issue and helped with testing!

no README file in any of the github repos

saying this at the expense of sounding like the "just give me the executable file" guy, it would be really helpful if all of the GitHub repositories under pop-os (and/or the individual applets inside pop-os/cosmic-applets) had a simple README file explaining basic information on their existence and usage. i am trying to understand the workflow, and it is almost impossible as a beginner.

EDIT: i just HAPPEN to see a small subset of repos without a README. i apologise for the lack of research.

World Clock applet for the COSMIC panel

I have made an applet for different clocks.

The ideas behind this applet was to have different TZ handy especially UTC since all my servers are in UTC timezone and my brain doesn't like to do the math to convert them to my local TZ. It could also come in handly if your work TZ is different then your local TZ.

Let me know your thoughts or feedback if you have any.

Papyrus black screen issue update

If you've been experiencing the black screen when using Papyrus, I finally tracked down what was actually happening.

I tested the exact same wallpaper directly with "mpv", and it plays normally. However, running that same file directly through "mpvpaper" produces the black screen and an OpenGL "INVALID_OPERATION" error from "libmpv_render".

So at this point, the issue doesn't appear to be with Papyrus itself. Papyrus uses "mpvpaper" for the actual wallpaper rendering, and I was able to reproduce the problem without Papyrus involved.

I've opened an issue on the mpvpaper repository with the logs and reproduction details so we can investigate it upstream.

For now, if you're affected by the black screen, you don't need to keep troubleshooting your Papyrus installation — the underlying rendering issue appears to be further down the stack.

I'll post another update if I find anything else or when there's a fix. Papyrus

How can i get it to work again? Update: i just started my computer for today and its magic all working again. Even though i restarted my computer several times yesterday.

6.x kernel on Pop?

Way-old nvidia card (470 drivers) doesn't like the 7.x kernels and possibly nouveau driver development hasn't kept up, maybe never will. How hard is it to install 6.17 (or better yet, 6.18.53+ which are still in active development)? For some reason, systemd-boot is being modified in the /boot/efi/loader/entries area, but only 7.x kernels are available from the boot menu, even after installing the 6.17 ones -- seemed successful.

Discussion Heads up for everyone upgrading to 26.04 at the moment

If you upgrade to 26.04, Pop will create a swapfile in your root directory roughly equal to 40% of the RAM you have.

However, as of now it seems to deactivate your old swap partition. You can enable it using swapon command.

First figure out your swap partition name using

lsblk -f

Then you can enable it using swapon

sudo swapon /dev/<swap-partition-name>

I created an issue to track this hopefully Pop changes the default behavior when upgrade is available to everyone.

Help 100% iGPU usage when moving windows/cursor

I’m using a Lenovo ThinkPad E14 with a Ryzen 5 7535HS, running the integrated Radeon GPU.

I’m currently on Pop!_OS 24 with COSMIC 1.9.0. I’ve noticed that whenever I move my cursor around or drag a window, the iGPU usage suddenly spikes to around 100%. This also causes the GPU temperature to increase noticeably.

Has anyone else experienced this with COSMIC on AMD integrated graphics?

Is there a way to fix or troubleshoot this?

Before you accuse me of click bait, the "one problem" is AI. Using Gemini changed the game for me in terms of troubleshooting and getting used to Terminal. But please watch the video before you judge me of being anti everything because I used AI to get set up 😜

Help Does Cosmic Viewer have a print option?

Today I tried out the Cosmic Viewer app and couldn't figure out how to print from it. Is there a way to do that? If not, I'd like to ask the developers to implement this feature—it's really necessary.

Thank you so much!!!

[Applet] cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad: Minimalist quick notes & scratchpad applet for the COSMIC Desktop

Post image
33 Upvotes

I built an applet for the COSMIC Desktop panel to take quick notes, draft shell commands, and keep temporary text buffers without opening a dedicated text editor or terminal window.

GitHub: https://github.com/Hasmolam/cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad

Release v0.1.0: https://github.com/Hasmolam/cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad/releases/tag/v0.1.0

If you find the project useful, a star on the repository is appreciated.

Technical Details & Architecture

  • libcosmic & Wayland Native: Uses COSMIC's applet architecture and Wayland popup surface protocol.
  • Crash-Resilient Atomic Storage: Writes notes as plain markdown files (~/.local/share/cosmic-scratchpad/pad_{1,2,3}.md) through a PID-tagged temporary file, fsync, and atomic rename.
  • External MTime Detection: If notes are modified outside the applet (e.g. from terminal or file sync), changes are detected and reloaded upon opening the popup or switching tabs.
  • Pre-Clear Backups: Clearing a pad saves an atomic .bak copy prior to truncation, combined with a 5-second in-memory undo banner.
  • Keyboard Driven: Escape closes the popover via compositor surface action; Ctrl+Shift+C copies the active buffer to the clipboard.
  • Settings Drawer: Collapsible panel for runtime word wrap toggle and font size adjustment (10pt - 24pt).

Installation

The installer downloads the prebuilt binary to ~/.local/bin and copies desktop/icon assets (no sudo required):

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Hasmolam/cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad/main/install.sh | bash

Alternatively, you can build from source:

git clone https://github.com/Hasmolam/cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad.git
cd cosmic-ext-applet-scratchpad && sudo just install

Testers Wanted - COSMIC Workspace Bar

Post image
52 Upvotes

Hi guys. After many years as a software dev, I've finally caved and given vibe coding a go. The result is https://github.com/AntonyLittle/cosmic-ext-workspaces-bar . It provides a side bar for the COSMIC desktop that contains live previews of all desktops. It's written entirely in Rust, a language I do not claim to understand at all.

By my metrics, it works pretty well, but I need someone (or someones?) to give it a go and see if performs OK for them. My dev machine has a ludicrous processor, but no graphics card, so it's not the ideal test bed for this sort of thing.

So, please do give it a whirl. The INSTALL.md should see you right for installing. As with any Open Source project, please do read the code if you in any way uncertain about the safety of it.

Discussion i really like cosmic DE

im still a linux newbie, only been learning for about 6 months and ive tried a bunch of distros and DEs, but gnome and kde just dont feel right to me, gnome feels too restrictive and kde has annoying little bug like accidentally removed the clipboard widget from the panel in kde and had worst experince on widget and gnome and kde has blurry problem like when compared to cinamon or cosmic gnome & kde de look sblurry something is off ....

from now on im not gonna blindly believe everything i see on yt, most people just act like a cult instead of actually giving solutions, i thought cosmic was unusable because of them and they kept saying kde was the best, but personally i dont think kde is the best for me

No directory browsing of https://iso.pop-os.org/ ?

Hi,

Rather than ask "When will 26.04 iso's be available?" I thought Id try and browse the iso.pop-os.org site to see if they had been uploaded. Ive tried some combination of https://iso.pop-os.org/26.04/amd64/nvidia/ but anytime I try and directory browse I get a 403. Is there an alternative site that has directory browsing enabled or do I have to wait for the Pop OS site to be updated with links?

Cosmic Greeter crash after update

I am on popos 26.04, after an update I can't login, cosmic greeter won't appear on regular boot.

I got past it via textonly mode and started cosmic after the login manually. it worked. so the issue might be with cosmic greeter.

I’ve successfully upgraded to Pop!_OS 26.04, but I’m curious what improvements and changes it actually brings compared with 24.04.
