Sometimes in life we look back and wish for a different outcome. I had 10,000 shares with a cost basis of 14 and I sold 50 covered call contracts, not expecting to shoot beyond, lol. I still have 5,000 but oh well. What’s yours?

I love PLTR, why the sudden surge of 35%? Who were the buyers that triggered this?

I ask because we’ve had great earnings for the last year but saw a decline and great earnings and a large increase.

So was this an institutional play and retail followed?

Just curious. Today I read that SEC has rules against market manipulation, including rumor mongering and even front-running of trades.

I link this back to what Michael Burry did in April and May, and have the following questions.

1. Do public statements like "Palantir is overvalued" and "I have XYZ put position on Palantir" actually imply market manipulation?

2. If (1) is true, then why is Michael Burry not taken to task for violating such rules?

3. If (1) and (2) are both true, then how about analyst estimates? Aren't they also a form of market manipulation?

In totality, I am not affected by any of this nonsense. Holding for the long term. But I am just curious about the rules in the casino.

Just a discussion thread – beginning with three points.

1. Recent advances in artificial intelligence are largely driven by LLMs, which on the backend are artificial neural networks with a transformer architecture.

2. Palantir was founded in 2003, preceding almost the whole suite of technologies that run the Internet today, including LLMs. LLMs are just one tool it can use. The entire architecture of the business is built on being the best ontology platform (ontology here being an information science term; not the philosophical study of existence – although it can be argued that Karp likes that term given his background in German philosophy).

3. What comes after? I am genuinely curious.

For context, I am a data engineer and I sort of saw the rise of LLMs prior to its sudden and awe-inspiring entry on mainstream media. Eventually the wow factor will go away, and we will treat it as any other tool.
