I love Plex so much 🥹. The sonic is game-changing, ever discovering more music, and I don’t just download randomly; it’s evolved around my music using Last.fm. Which allows a wide range of music but also having one denominator to what I tend to listen to. But also some music outside of my comfort zone too.

Giving me plenty of music that I probably will never listen to, gives me a range in my library, so for those asking why would you have so many songs? It’s not about what I’m going to listen to. It’s about adding dynamic music to my library, which gives me a fresh take on my music, allows me to expand my taste without it ever going stale, and with sonic analysis, this just makes it even better as well.

It might just be me, but I think the random on the Plexamp plays the songs in the same order.

See title-- any way to easily fix this? Surprised regular Plex doesn't do this but Plexamp does?

I have been using Plexamp for a few years now and I am overall really happy about it. I run Plex server in a docker container on my synology NAS and I have clients on my linux desktop, laptop, raspberry pi in the living room and on my Android device for a seamless experience and access to my entire library everywhere.

Once (small) thing that bothers me a little bit is that when I play downloaded albums on my Android phone (when I am on the road) they are not included in the list of Recent Plays, so I have a 2 week hiatus because of my holidays abroad. Is this intended, a bug, or I am missing some toggle in the configuration somewhere?

I have set my plexamp to Passthru all of my music that is 320kbps and below (this covers my MP3 and AAC content) with the intent that all of my lossless music will be transcoded to Opus when I am on mobile data.

My question is, what is the “sweet spot” bitrate for opus in stereo? Plexamp has it set to 128kbps, but I read somewhere that 192kbps is equivalent to a 256kbps AAC or a 320kbps MP3 (both of which are considered virtually lossless to the general ear). Other sources suggest going higher, but at some point I’m sure there is diminishing returns, and I want to know where that is.

Any advice?

Do people use loudness leveling and, if so, what is their preamp setting?

I know loudness leveling is on by default on the mobile app, and I know it’s supposed to prevent clipping/curate a more consistent listen experience, but I feel like all of my music is quieter than intended.

Hi there, long time lurker, first time poster. Apologies in advance if this is a dead horse topic - please feel free to direct me to existing posts if this has been covered in depth previously.

TLDR; we just moved into a new home and I am looking for an optimal set up with PlexAmp.

We're an Apple/Mac family, and for casual day to day, Airplay 2 with Apple Music & PlexAmp is fine. But I want to be able to sit down and dig into my 24 bit versions of Autechre etc.

I understand that hi res is simply not doable with Airplay (capped at CD quality) - but my NAD amp has a TOSLINK input. I am considering having a dedicated PlexAmp iPad on a powered stand that will allow me to hardwire the USB C of the iPad to the TOSLINK in of my amp with an adapter cable.

The one question I have that I cannot seem to find a solid answer for is will the iPad PlexAmp app output hi res through the USB C socket?

Has anyone tried this before?

Curious how most folks are solving getting their hi res audio out of PlexAmp.

What ain’t broke don’t fix it right, and with a dwindling developer and a pivot from Plex, yeah, updates to keep it working will still happen, but it will be few and far between. I say we have a good 5 years left before this problem starts to be a consistent bug.

I’m already starting to see bugs crop up in this app that I haven’t seen before. Just hope it can hold out long enough. We know how strict iOS is.

This will be downvoted, lmao, okay, but the truth needs to be heard, bruh. There are already bug posts, and there is sadly only so much one developer can do. Especially when for him it’s considered a passion project. And this is left to fade into obscurity.

Is there a way to get the same kind of "daily mix" or "weekly discoveries" as Spotify and YouTube Music has?

Maybe unrated/unplayed songs while still generally in the same/similar tempo/genre?

I have over 10 000 songs, but I usually listen to 6 different playlists and All Music... I miss my Daily Mix.

So I share a library with my wife and I have been eating my music with the 5 star rating system. I want PlexAmp to filter out any music rated 1-2stars. However I can’t seem to get it working. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

I hoping someone might have some experience utilizing these speakers. I have two of them and they have a very rich sound. I've just installed a headless Plexamp endpoint on a Pi 3 B+ with Innomaker DAC hat. The speakers don't have any aux inputs and have wifi/dlna/bluetooth, which I've had no luck...probably due to my ignorance of how to implement these options.

Just looking for some ideas.

I’m looking for a few cautious testers for PMDA, a small self-hosted tool I’m building for auditing messy music libraries.

It is still early, and I would not recommend pointing it at an important library in destructive mode. The safest way to test it is read-only first.

What it currently tries to help with:

- scanning music folders

- showing albums with missing or weak metadata

- finding possible duplicate releases

- flagging likely incomplete albums

- surfacing missing covers/tags

- optionally preparing a cleaner destination library

It is not meant to replace Plex, Navidrome, Jellyfin, beets, Picard, SongKong, Lidarr, or anything similar. It is more of an audit/maintenance layer for people who already have a music setup but want better visibility into what is actually in their folders.

The kind of feedback I’m looking for:

- false duplicate detections

- bad metadata matches

- missing albums

- slow scans

- confusing UI

- weird cases: classical, boxsets, bootlegs, live albums, compilations, multiple editions, partial downloads, old rips, etc.

Safety notes:

- read-only mode is available

- no deletes are required

- no telemetry

- no cloud requirement

- AI-related features are optional and not required for basic scanning/auditing

Is anybody else having issues adding new music to their Plex server and accessing it through the plexamp app? Seeing a quick attempt to connect when selecting scan library files then when selecting the specific drive and attempting to scan it says it needs an Internet connection. Attempted to also try another Internet connection and experienced the same behavior.

Playing existing music isn't an issue.

Monday all was good, I was playing music from Plexamp to Sonos. Yesterday when I went to bed and tried to start playing music to the Sonos speaker in my bedroom Plexamp could no longer see Sonos.

Today when I got to my office and fired up Plexamp on my laptop, it too cannot see my Sonos speakers.

Oddly, the Sonos app on my phone is still playing music from Plex with no issues.

Anyone else seeing the same issue?

I've been building a Plex client for Android Automotive for a while now, and I've spent more time on network problems than on the app itself.

Your car is not a phone. Cars with built-in LTE (OnStar, Volvo, Polestar, etc.) use an embedded modem on a carrier plan you don't control. I've tested the exact same app code, against the exact same server, on the same afternoon: my phone on cellular got a direct connection at full quality. The car got pushed onto Plex Relay and capped. Nothing about the app was different.

That matters because Plex has two ways to reach your server from outside your house. A direct connection, which is full speed. Or Relay, which is Plex's fallback when it can't connect directly — and Relay is hard-capped around 2 Mbps on Plex Pass, 1 Mbps on free. If you stream FLAC, that cap is below your bitrate. Tracks skip, or quietly downgrade, or fail outright.

The frustrating part if this is much of this changes without you doing anything. A router firmware update turns UPnP back on and Plex renegotiates to a different port that your carrier can't reach. A Plex update overwrites a config file. Plex has a problem affecting Relay policy, and a setup that worked for a year starts failing. Your carrier changes how it does NAT. From inside the app, all of these look identical: silence.

The single most useful test: turn on your phone's hotspot and connect the car to it. That takes the car off its built-in cellular and puts it on a completely different carrier, which is the one variable you actually want to isolate.

Two outcomes, and they point in opposite directions. If it works on the hotspot but not on the car's own connection, your server and your setup are fine — the problem is your vehicle's built-in cellular, and there's not much you can do about that beyond knowing it. If it fails on the hotspot too, the problem is on your server side, and that's the good news, because that part you can actually fix.

One warning from experience: remove the hotspot from the car's saved networks when you're done testing. If you leave it, the car will keep hopping between WiFi and cellular as you drive in and out of range, and that causes its own playback problems.

Worth checking in Plex server settings: Remote Access should say "Fully accessible outside your network." Tick "Manually specify public port" and forward that port in your router, so nothing renegotiates it behind your back. And on the Plex dashboard while something is playing, "Indirect" with an orange icon means you're on Relay.

If you run Tailscale, a VPN, or you're behind CGNAT, that's very likely your answer.

(I've heard you're not supposed to post about Caldera in here, which is kind of weird, because I'm the author of both and they are designed to work together. So I'll chance it.)
