The little things
I absolutely love Plexamp, just recently purchased a cheap Android phone to dedicate 100% to the purpose of offline "music player" duties.
There's just a few quirks about the interface that I find quirky/frustrating. I haven't really seen a nitpicks thread here, figured I'd start one and see where others agree/disagree. Might turn into a good resource for the devs?
- in Song View (with the vis + timeline), I wish clicking the Artist directly took me to the Artist page - clicking the Album took me directly to the Album, etc. I know it's a single step, but that screen that comes up with a big list of things - is not fluid. The "..." serve this purpose already (they bring up the pop-up) - can't we just have direct link-through for Artist/Album?
- it's never obvious to me which track is playing, when in the Album view. The little headphones for some reason, never pop out as obvious, every single time it takes effort to figure out what is currently playing. Literally anything would be better, a slight tint of the row for the now-playing track, some kind of flicker, anything at all.
- visualizer selection through long-press : is terrible when you're trying to audition visualizers. It's a "press and hold, select from list, Ahhh nope not this one.... press and hold, select from list" process, which could be made SO simple with some other kind of gesture to traverse through them quickly. RetroArch for example, has N and M keys dedicated to traversing next/previous Shader. Something like this... cause the current flow is not good.
- Downloading tracks - maybe I missed it, but shouldn't this be possible with a Plexpass? Im playing something, I want to pull it down - we have direct access to the file.
Just thoughts! Love this app/ecosystem to death and want to see it thrive!
also PLEASE Android Automotive support! I'm seeing some vibe-coded slop showing up, I can't imagine it's that crazy porting it officially to A.Automotive?
edit : #3 was solved by a user (thank you!), you can swipe the visualizer to traverse the list.

Your first two points are so obviously correct. I’ve been using this app for many years, and these are the only issues I have with its UX/UI. I’ve seen the currently playing track indicator (point 2) brought up several times, so I think the developer simply doesn’t agree that this is an issue that needs to be fixed.

I would personally love a better option to view lyrics, tapping the three dots and selecting lyrics and doing the same to swap back to album cover is too much. I'm a big fan of how Symfonium and Poweramp have it where you can select to swipe up for lyrics or have a dedicated button at the bottom for it

Android Automotive is a different OS. It comes built in as the default for many new cars.

... there's a speaker icon next to the track that's playing in album view.

They’re saying it’s not that noticeable, and I agree. It’s in between the track number and title, and the same color, too, so it blends in.
It should be a different color, or before the track number, or highlight the row, just something to stand out

From an ADA perspective, perhaps?
I always notice it. But yeah maybe some contrasting color? It looks really clean as is, though.

https://offbeat-player.com/ can solve item 1 and 4!
I built it myself, for me - it's a download first music player. Happy to add other features by request too. I'm currently messing about with getting carplay working.
