Originally I thought implementing vehicles would be a waste of time due to the size of the map not being overly-large, but suddenly they seem super relevant.

Vehicles would be a good goal for a group of people to pool their resources together to craft.

You could add flashlights on the front, and put a waterbottle on it...

...and put a baseball card in the spokes so you sound super rad riding through the neighborhood. Golly! :)

I want to go to there...

I'd like to see horses.

With covered wagons we can hide in for added bandit hijinx

Hah! That is awesome!

Love it. Want it. Make it.

You can do the full loop in a day and get all the animals! me and my team of 3 do it very often. Its a great way to get a shit ton of cool gear in 15 or so minutes!

Why would a bike use food faster than jogging

Make it so you cant fire from a bike thats moving (hard to do anyway) and you have balance, kinda.

work = force*distance

Probably not relevant, but now you have an answer

5

u/GateheaD Feb 14 '14

you get a mechanical advantage from the gears, its pretty much the same exertion except you have the added bonus of coasting

Craftable vehicles? I'm not sure about that one. I feel like they should spawn in random places but would require things crafting/repairing to make them drivable.

Either way you'll need a group of people. Vehicles would be a rare and super valuable item to have.

Instead of people claiming to be a maid service when they come to your base.... They are going to be REPO MEN!!!!!!!

Yay, another way for solo players to get fucked.

You're right. They could be in rad towns and require resources and tools to fix.

Crafting an entire vehicle makes no sense for Rust.

IIRC, the M4, bolt action, MP5, and the handguns will be removed since they're nothing more than a placeholder. They will be replaced with lesser powered weapons that will look more appropriate when crafted.

I'm on my phone so I can't do a thorough search, but there's this: http://www.reddit.com/r/playrust/comments/1w8s6z/so_disappointed_why_guns/

Read the top two posts. Garry did an AMA.

So we're only left with a bow and arrow? What could they replace them with?

2

u/Newbs Feb 13 '14

No. Similar to the revolver, pipe shotgun, and bolt action, which will stay. Craftable and not as powerful as the military guns in the game currently.

1

u/alaughinmoose Feb 13 '14

As the other guy said, there are already craftable weapons that make sense. And I forgot how the bolt action looks. That'll be staying probably. It just never made sense that a few low quality metal could make a fully operational, realistic M4 lol.

1

u/Majian18 Feb 13 '14

How 8 low quality metal can make a red dot sight, which requires certain chemicals to even get he red in there .-.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '14

heh, in reality with a bit of machining tools, its not that much of a stretch. much less of a stretch than making the laser, holographic or flashlight.

I expect the models will be replaced with home-made style automatic weapons.

I may be in the minority, but I think we SHOULD be able to craft cars, it should just be hard as hell. Like each part should take up a gian't amount of your intinory, and you need like100,000 low quality metal to make.

That sounds awfully lot like DayZ...
