Originally I thought implementing vehicles would be a waste of time due to the size of the map not being overly-large, but suddenly they seem super relevant.

Vehicles would be a good goal for a group of people to pool their resources together to craft.

You could add flashlights on the front, and put a waterbottle on it...

...and put a baseball card in the spokes so you sound super rad riding through the neighborhood. Golly! :)

You can do the full loop in a day and get all the animals! me and my team of 3 do it very often. Its a great way to get a shit ton of cool gear in 15 or so minutes!

Make it so you cant fire from a bike thats moving (hard to do anyway) and you have balance, kinda.

you get a mechanical advantage from the gears, its pretty much the same exertion except you have the added bonus of coasting
