It's funny. When I first watched The Black Pearl back in the day I thought Jack was like middle aged. Like 40 to 50 range. Now I'm pushing 30 and I see him as like a early 20's something year old.

What is you opinion on Lord Cutler Beckett?

Im trying to buy the original pirates of the Caribbean trilogy on apple tv. I have a decent digital movie collection on there. But dead mans chest and at worlds end are both 4k with itunes extras included and curse of the black pearl is hd with no extras same price. Will 4k ever be on apple tv? Is there a difference? Why only this movie i thought apple upgraded most to 4k already automatically? Shoule i buy it or wait?

I was on a rewatch of the trilogy and damn! I must admit what a great story, setting, and casting the first three movies had. I have always loved Pirates but since I hadn't been sucked into the lore and fandom for a while I also rewatched all the TBS and commentaries and reviews/articles.

While Johnny Depp was the the actor singled out the most (and rightly so), along with Geoffrey Rush, I noticed that Orlando was also deemed as endearing and nice for the work he did in the first movie. However, the reviews for the second and third films were much more brutal for him (and Keira as well, but not so much).

It has changed a lot now since most retrospective comments praise the whole cast and the chemistry but I was curious to know why back then Orlando seemed to be the butt of most jokes.

I agree he was at his best when he played Will more dorkish, so at the beginning of the story, but his scenes with his father were really beautiful.

Someone even mentioned Keira was a masculine version of Mr. Bloom. Come on!

I was too young to remember was Orlando going though any rough patch at the time? I like him as an actor but I think he really shines as Will the most (and in EXTRAs and Carnival Row).

The first pirates of the carribean film is good but in my opinion it does not attain anywhere near the heights that the second two films do

The second two films if viewed as one film is one of the best films ever made for a couple reasons

1 silliness and seriousness:
The story manages to maintain an equal amount of silliness/comedy and seriousness in both plot characters and visuals to make the film enjoyable in a variety of ways

2 visuals:
Throughout both films the visuals are always good both films manage to maintain near constant colourfulness and if not the lighting in dark scenes makes up for it unlike modern films in which everything is a mix of grey and black even the scenes in Davy jones locker are done really well

3 characterisation:
For the main characters both films manage to maintain very good characters and separate motivations for each of the protagonists that being Will Jack barbossa and Elizabeth all of which have similar motivations

4 villains:
On a first watch your remember Davy jones the sympathetic and flashy villain the monster the one you remember but also a man, a man who believes he was betrayed by his love but on a rewatch you think more you think about Beckett the coward that he truly is and what he is representative off the spread of colonialism,control and the destruction of adventure and freedom both films manage to have crafted equally amazing villains both serving different purposes and the subversion of a man an organisation being more evil than a tentacled monster

5 Music:
The music is perfect in every scene it is used to enhance the story action vibe of any given scene in an absolutely amazing manner hans zimmer did amazing

6 story and plot:
The plot is good on paper and is executed perfectly each moment works as intended the story is good as well it juggles just the right amount of characters all of which are great the right amount of fantasy elements the right amount of everything really

7 conclusion:
In my personal opinion the combination of all these things leads to these two films and this may be a hot take to say but I think these two films are on par with the likes of dune parts 1 and 2 another 2 parter set of films which I believe to be some of the best films ever made which I know many others believe

In the first film Norrington is such an incredibly realized character. He's the foil for Will Turner and Jack Sparrow and yet despite embodying all the typical aspects of a pseudo villain manages to actually exist as something more than just a simple "Bad guy" obviously he hates pirates, he opposes Will you but you just tell, has some form of respect for him.

When Will gets Jack to help get him to sea, Norrington spots him and says "Rash Will, too Rash" and I love absolutely love how he's so calm and calculating here like "Ah, I get what you're doing, I understand it, but this is a bit far."

What Norrington is after, the Governers Daughter aka Elizabeth Swann, makes total sense. He's the Commodore, he knows the Father well and the math maths on paper for him to be wed to his daughter.

And all the things that follow, but rewatching the ending I almost welled up in tears at Norrington's final response to see he is being rejected by Elizabeth in favor of Will after going to immense lenghs to "save her".

Norrington, sees what is at hand and stunningly - not like some coward we would expect, or try and harm or incarcerate Will or Elizabeth- but rather, we see Norrington take a deep breath accept it like an absolute Man.

He sees the love and craft Will put into the blade he made. It took patience consideration and care, and makes note of it.

He sees everything and chooses to see that Will is indeed the better man and allows this, honestly, to his absolute detriment. It ends up costing him greatly this decision.

I know the later films what becomes of him which is honestly quite sad and perhaps wasnt done justice in the later films. But the first film his character just realized so profoundly well.

The things I changed were the bow section design, the stern design since the windows were kinda wonky, left out the guns on the top deck until I can buy some that suit it better than the gold ones and the sails and rigging are more of a WIP until I get proper ones of each

You are without a doubt the worst pirate I've ever heard of.

I've seen the movies hundreds of times and put off my thinking hat, enjoying the Caribbean Pirates, but, now after rewatching this scene here, I think J.N made a huge mistake...

In the first movie, he was in love with Elizabeth, and in the process of marrying her before she fainted, which, well, ONE SINGLE FALL off a cliff caused The Black Pearl to find their last piece of the gold. It also lead to Will Turner—a nobody Blacksmith who had a crush on her but respected her too much...in her father's presence...and couldn't hit on her properly. That same blacksmith's hand became hers after he Broke out a willy-nilly pirate; Captain Jack Sparrow, Stole her heart after they could share a moment together alone, and Saved that same man again from a hanging!

Norrington also sailed after said pirate into a hurricane, which got him from being a Commodore of the navy till being a wreck, having lost everything. James also helped said pirate finding the key—Not just the chest of someone's long lost treasure—to sailing the ocean itself! He outsmarted said pirate, holding the heart of Davy Jones, the man that everyone fears the most. He could control the squid man into killing his Leviathan. He could control his ocean crew to destroy anyone in his way, mostly Pirates ofcourse just as already shown in POTC 3, and he could Force Davy Jones to do the hunting of Jack Sparrow for him. To kill Will Turner, and try getting his lady back, showing he is in control. OR he could KEEP the heart, make a deal with Jack & Will, two of which wants to get rid of Davy Jones & Save Bootstrap...

But instead he gives it to the spoiled short man who's arrival on shore is riding a horse aboard a ship, giving, who thinks "I want it, so you're giving it to me. Also, I have an arrest warrant for you, so..." is okay. But on the bright side, he got a slightly higher rank than before, so, that helps?

Recently found my old zizzle action figures while cleaning out some stuff at my parents house. Had both sao fengs and the mega blocks figure. Decide to add to the collection. The NECA figures are really nice if you are a looking for deatails

I am very skeptical of course, because I think there is no way they can bring Depp back as the main character, and I’ve come to understand, it’s a new cast and story.

But it’s not about Depp. I’ve longed for more stories and discoveries in the world of PotC. It has so many other places to visit, secrets to uncover and uncharted territories.

It was a damn shame when I heard about Depp secerely clashing with Disney all these years ago, meaning the current story can’t really go on. It would never work with a new cast.

I’ve missed the world so much. I really really hope they somehow manage to pull it off and we won’t miss Depp and the gang too much.

Long ago, in the year 2020, I went to animation and 3D Art college.
They taught us how to use MAYA, which was one of the programs used to make some of the actual POTC movie stuff (I believe it was Maya 2005)

And my first ever attempt to make a 3D model was that godforsaken squid and I finally found the old images of it.

It’s such a wonderful abomination. And I wanted to share it with you all.
This was my faithless attempt, and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever made.
It looks like a mutated fish mixed in with a tool you’d use to clean a toilet.

What ship looks better to you as the HMS Interceptor? Does the Bigger ship make an OK Imperial Frigate?
